It's been a while since I last made a rep so here we are again!

Last Thursday I headed back to my local GW to get another game in with GoDzBuZzSaW. Our last game ended in me narrowly beating his Tau, if you fancy reading that one first there's a link here or in my sig This time Rhys was tooled up with his new shiny marines and out for revenge! (I may be elaborating for dramatic effect, the reality of it is that he had to throw a list together at short notice and blag a rhino off a friend to be able to get 1500 points at short notice ). Any way...DRAMA!

I took to the field with the exact same list as last time, now tried and tested and much loved. It is as follows:

Heavy Support:

I've been asked to let you know this definitely isn't Rhys' first choice list, so try to keep the list bashing to a minimum unless of course you want to rip into mine, in that case, fill your boots

Now, with all the formalities out of the way, ON TO THE REPORT!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deployment

Mission: Capture and Control
Deployment: Spearhead

I won the roll to decide who deploys first 6-5 (7-5 if you want to flap around with the Baron's special rule) and choose a corner nicely hidden behind a big ol' piece of terrain, just in case the initiative is stolen from me. I set up like this:

The pile of skulls by the only Venom I deployed (with Wracks in) is my objective. Now isn't that suitably grimdark? The two Raiders (painted) have the Wych's/Haemy's in over by the Baron and his Beasty friends. Whilst the Ravagers (one of them is actually a Raider if your eye's are good enough and you care enough to check) are all unpainted and hiding behind the rocky outcrops. I left both Warrior squads and their Venoms in reserve. I roll for my Combat Drugs and score a 6, giving all my drugged up units a pain token, things ARE going well!

Over on the other side of the board, the Knights deployed like this:

Rhys' objective (another pile of skulls that some how seems to have strategic importance) is just to the left of the lone Razorback (Strike squad inside). The Gryffindor coloured (borrowed ) Rhino was filled with the Purifiers, in front of the other Strike squad's Razorback, both of which are parked neatly next to the Libby's Redeemer.

This shot gives you a good general overview of the table:

Rhys attempted to seize the initiative and rolled a 1, so I'm up first!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 1

Most of my army shuffles to the left to try and get some Loss onto that scary looking Land Raider. One Ravager hopped over the rocks to get Line of sight on the LR as well as the Razorback over by their objective, so I've got the option to pop that if everything else goes to plan. The Ravager on the far right goes flat out and takes shelter behind a building. To save me having to move them twice, Rhys lets me roll my run for the beasts now, I get a rather useless 2".

The librarian passes a psychic test and sets shrouding off, to give some cover to the now exposed transports, but it doesn't turn out to be all that helpful. My first Ravager scored a single hit on the LR, with help from the lanky goodness I penetrate the armour 14 and explode it...Luckily the Terminators escape unscathed, but still, its a good result for me.
With my main target out of the way so quickly I decide to shoot one Ravager at the Razorback camping on the GK objective and by some stupid luck I blow that one up as well! Again, the unit inside make it out unhurt though.
I then fire one of the Raiders at the Rhino, hit but fail to glance the side armour. After witnessing his colleagues failure, the other Raider chooses to lay into the Terminator squad instead, turning one poor knight into mush.

This is how the world looked after my first turn.

Eyeing up the board, I pretty much realise Rhys isn't going to be able to get over to my objective any more, unless he completely abandons his own. Bit of a harsh start for him so far. But this is how he replies....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grey Knights Turn 1

There's no really significant movement for the Grey Knights, the remaining Razorback moves back and swings round to block off my right-most Ravager. The Rhino wheels around and moves forward, up next to the little copse of trees. Other than that, the Terminators and Libby wander forward a little just to get into range, and the Strike squad by his objective shuffle forward so they can hold the objective and still get a decent LoS on the psycannon.

In the shooting phase, the terminators squad open up on my left-most Ravager (the one between the building and rock) but fails to do anything. Rhys' Razorback shoots over the heads of the Terminators and manages to penetrate the same Ravager. Unfortunately, they only score a 1 on the vehicle damage chart, but thanks to being open topped, that gunboat won't be doing anything next turn.
A couple of Purifiers pop out of the top hatch of the Rhino and lay into the central Ravager and blow it sky high, result! The lone Psycannon in the objective camping Strike squad is about half an inch out of range when trying to shoot at the already stunned (or is 2 called shaken? I never remember) Ravager.

That could have been a lot worse for me, I only lost one Ravager, but I do have another one stuck in the bottle neck that I was hoping to move my beasts through. That said, things could be much worse, so I'm not going to complain! At the end of turn 1 we're drawing, both holding our own objectives.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 2

I start off by rolling for my reserves. Of the two Warrior/Venom units only one arrives, he zips forward 12" over on the far left and hides behind a big boulder, but still able to draw LoS onto the Strike squad.
Thanks to my inconsiderate Ravager blocking the Baron's passage, they move (and run 5" this time) behind the building. The two Raiders leapfrog the Ravager and the Wyches/Haemonculi get out (I took the photo a little early so they hadn’t quite disembarked yet ). I decide not to separate the Haemy's as I'd have to leave a pain token with each of them now that each squad has 2 (1 from Haemy, 1 from Drugs), and I think Furious Charge will prove handy!
Over on the far right (in the second picture) my fully functioning Ravager swoops out and prepares to shoot down the Razorback.

Like last turn, The Librarian manages to cast Shrouding, but again it fails to help all that much. My Ravager that swung out on the right shoots at the remaining Razorback and blows the weapon off and two more Terminators are evaporated by Raider Dark Lances. Both Haemonculi shoot their Liquifiers (one at AP3, the other at AP6) at the terminators, but they both fail to do anything. Not great, but I was hoping I'd ground them down far enough to be able to do okay in assault. Over on the left, my newly arrived Venom unleashes its 12 shots into the Strike squad (out of shot). I managed to pick off the Hammer and one normal guy to force a leadership test, they fail the test and fall back 7" nice one guys!

On to the assault phase! To start things off, the Librarian casts Sanctuary successfully. The difficult terrain stops the unit on the right from being able to get into combat, but the left hand squad still makes it. Some how, none of them fail dangerous terrain tests, so at least I get one full squad into the fray.
My Hekatrix kills off a halberd, another 4 of the Wyches go for the squad but they all fail to do anything. The 4 other Wyches attack the Librarian and with thanks to furious charge they manage to bring him down. In an even stranger turn of events, the Haemonculus even manages to kill off the last guy
With that all cleaned up, I consolidate 4" towards the Rhino.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grey Knights Turn 2

Over on the right, the Razorback that I'd just Weapon destroyed spins around and reverses towards my Ravager, allowing the Strike Squad to spill out. The Psycannon manages to wreck it with relative ease, leaving with only one gunboat left on the board.
Back in the middle, Rhys' Purifier unit hop's out of the Rhino (leaving the Brotherhood champion inside) before it zooms off to try and intercept my Warriors. The Purifiers dive into the middle of the Wych units. In shooting they manage to pick off 4 guys before assaulting.

Without having furious charge, things really don't go well this time! The Haemonculus and 3 Wyches get cut down and do no damage at all in return. I fail my LD test and the squad gets swept off the table The Purifiers then consolidate 5" to hide in the trees.

This is how it stood at the end of the second turn. Still drawn with both of us holding a single objective.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 3

My second Warrior squad turns up this time, again moving on over to the left, preparing to close in on the Grey Knights objective.
With my lone Ravager now able to move again, he zips forward 12" to clear the way for my beasties. Eyeballing it, I'm pretty confident they would be able to get into assault with the Purifiers (given they get a half decent run result) so I send the Baron off on his own to hide behind a rock, now allowing the beasts to make use of their full 12" assault move.
My remaining Wyches close in on the Purifiers whilst their transport hover's round the corner to shoot up the remaining Razorback. All the other vehicles close in around the Brotherhood Champion and his transport to bombard him with Dark light. The beasts do deliver, and make a more than adequate 5" run.

After the great success of my last two shooting phases, this one was a little underwhelming. Both of my Venom's open fire on the Strike squad and finish off 2 dudes, somehow the last guy holds. I roll a 6 for my Haemonculi's Liquifier and get a 6, so that does sweet FA. My Raiders both miss and one of the Warriors with the blaster pen's the Champions rhino, but it is negated by cover. The only thing of any worth that I did was to get a Weapon Destroyed result with my remaining Ravager on Rhys' last Razorback. Then, all that was left to do was to get stuck straight into combat.

Both the Beasts and Wyches were quite obviously in assault range, so I charged in intent on clearing the squad out of the cover. The unit managed to cast Cleansing Flame to bring down a Khymera and putting a single wound onto a Razorwing flock, but that was all that the Grey Knights could do before the unit was pecked to death by the birds

I didn't consolidate far, so by the end of the assault phase things looked like this (but it wasn't so blurry irl ) :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grey Knights Turn 3

The Grey Knights were a bit thin on the ground by this point, so the brotherhood Champion decided to head off on his own personal little rampage. He hopped out the Rhino and moved a full 6" through the trees difficult terrain. Meanwhile, the newly vacated Rhino decided to charge itself head long into a Venom. The Rhino's little adventure proved to do very little, as I was able to dodge the ram, but over on the other side of the battle, the now weaponless Razorback followed the Rhino's example and charged full steam ahead, into one of my Raiders. This time the dodge failed, but the hit failed to do any damage. The remaining strike squad opened fire on the Raider but much like the tank, they failed to make a mark. The lone dude from the strike squad takes a leaf out of the Brotherhood Champ's book and charges head first towards the nearest Venom.

The Strike man (well I can't really call him a strike squad on his own ) Attacks the Venom but fails. All that was left to do now was for the noble Brotherhood Champion to stare death in the face and charge into the beast pack. Things don’t start well for him as he get PotW when attempting to get a psychic power off, amazingly (you'll be hearing a lot of that word as far as this guy is concerned from now on ) he passes both invulnerable saves so is able to fight on. My beasts get 8 wounds through onto him (2 of which were rending) and amazingly, he passes every one! He then turns around and gets 3 wounds against me, meaning I lose the combat. I fail the leadership test and barely escape his wrath, running most of the way back to my own board edge. The Champ consolidates after me so I'm still within 6" and can't attempt to regroup.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 4

Now I close in for the kill. I zip forward with one of the Venoms and steal the GK objective and almost everything moves to surround the remaining Rhino and lone dude. After seeing how insanely lucky the Brotherhood Champion was last turn, I move one Ravager to take shots at him rather than the vehicle. Just in case. My thinking is that if I can clean up these guys this turn I'll be able to hammer the remaining Razorback and squad on what could be the last turn.

In shooting, I start with the Haemonculus and roll AP1 "HAHA AT LAST" I think to my self, I then fail to wound the Champion . Following that screw up I fire a couple of splinter pistols at him from the Wych unit, forcing 1 armour save that is easily passed. "Dont worry" I think to myself "this is why I put the Ravager there". I got 2 hits, both wounded, and Rhys' calmly passed both invulnerable saves THIS GUY IS AMAZING.

I finally except that this guy isn't going to die this turn, so decide to focus everything else on the Rhino and lone Strike man. Both Raiders fire their Dark lances at the Rhino, one misses and one fails to glance. So I fire the two Blasters at it. Again, they do nothing! By this point I'm beginning to thing luck has abandoned me, I open fire with a Venom and score 11 hits (finally a good roll ), of those 11 hits, 2 wound.....2....I fail 9 4+ rolls, and of those 2 that I did make, both bounce harmlessly off his armour.

All in summary, with 7 dark light shots, 19 poison shots and an AP1 flamer I did noting at all. Good going team

I've got no choice but to plow my wyches into CC with the Brotherhood Champ and hope that rolling more dice (and furious charge) will eventually achieve something
The Brotherhood Champ used some I10 attacks (not 100% familiar with the GK book so I've not got any idea how or what the rule/power is called ) to bring down my Haemonculus before I got to swing. In return, my Hekatrix misses with every attack and the unit get 3 wounds through, all of which are saved by the 2+ armour. I'm not sure statistically how many times I should have killed this guy by now, but everything I throw at him seems to be full of fail

As I failed to do anything, I lost the combat, but thankfully passed the LD test this time. We remain locked in combat.

Epic fail's aside, I'm now winning with 2 objectives to Rhys' 0.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grey Knights Turn 4

In a last attempt to reclaim his objective,The Strike Squad the was left out on the right hops into the Razorback and they make a 12" ramming move into the back of my Raider. Again I dodge the attack, but its got him right up in my grill. The Gryffindor Rhino also decided to go ramming, this time into the Venom that was holding the GK objective. I cant dodge this one, but fortunately for me the ram only glances and any damage is saved by flickerfields.

The lone Strike squad man shoots at a Venom but does no damage.

Back over in the Wych/BC combat, not only probability abandons me, but apparently gravity does as well.

The assault is drawn, with neither of us inflicting any wounds.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 5

Now more than 6" away from an enemy model, the Beast squad attempts to rally. I failed the test though, so apparently still filled with the dread of the Brotherhood Champion, they run off the table....fantastic.
With the beasts gone I just move everything forward towards the Knights objective in an attempt to stop anyone from contesting it. I disembark one unit of warriors into the terrain purely because it looks cool, then prepare to open fire.

The now empty Venom shoots the lone Strike squad dude and he finally falls down dead. After he was down it took the combined fire power of the Ravager and 2 Raiders, but I manage to wreck the Razorback over on the right, but at least I achieved something in this shooting phase

In assault after what has felt like forever, the Brotherhood Champion finally falls to the blade of one of my Wyches. He has the last laugh though, passing another psychic test and taking my Hekatrix with him! By this point I didn't really care that I'd lost her, I was just over the moon that the SoB (not sister of battle ) was dead!

This is what was going on at the end of what could have been my last turn.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grey Knights Turn 5

By this point the turns are flying by. The Rhino attempts another ram and fails so Rhys just assaults my Warriors (in fear of wiping the whole squad in shooting) and kills 4 in the assault with no reply from me. My lucky blaster man escaped unscathed, whilst the Strike squad consolidated into a position where they were contesting the objective.

As it stands I've still got the lead, but only 1-0 again now. We get a friend to roll the dice and the game goes on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 6

Again, I just shuffle around a small amount to get clear shots, but movement is pretty minimal. In shooting I pick off 3 (including the hammer guy) of the strike squad between both of my Venoms, I fail (somehow?!) to wound with the blaster from my unharmed Warrior squad, but a Raider picks of the last guy. At this point I look over the board and realise the only thing left is Rhys' Rhino, the two guns of the Ravager than can get LoS both miss and that left me with only the single fleeing blaster warrior to shoot. As he continued to run for his life he took a shot over his shoulder and nuked the tank

I win with 2 objectives to Rhys' 0 and by annihilation.

Oooh yeah, I almost forgot! after Baron Sathonyx left the beast squad he went on a lovely little road trip and decided to go back to check out my objective. That would be why he's randomly in the last pic

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VICTORY FOR THE DARK ELDAR!

Thanks for reading guys, let me know what you think I (and hopefully GoDzBuZzSaW ) will be happy to answer any questions

Thats convention, yea. It wouldn't matter if they decided it ends on a 2 or a 5 though as long as they both agreed on it.

I think he meant it ended, because we played it the proper way and I remember it like that

naramyth is right, but it was just a typo, not a rules screw up I checked back through the notes and it was a 3, not 1. I've corrected it now

Note to self, don't try and finish writing up rep's late at night

TBH, I don't think the list is that bad. Sure it's not as good as your 3 dread one, but for an all-comers list it's by no means aweful.

I just think DE is just a bit of a rough match up for you, that much AP2 isn't good for anyone, but with an expensive Termie squad + LR my list really hits you where it hurts.

Only got 2 Dreads in 1500 points I'm not a Psyrifleman Spammer, although the list is nice, it's just going to struggle against Dark Eldar, Necrons and Possibly Tau as the Land Raider can die early in the game.
