Oke so, i have my IG army for a couple of years now. I Already thuoght about the rough background ans such. This will be the thread where I will put my IG's background in.
I'm still coming up with Ideas, so any help from you might be helpfull to me.
( I might edit some pieces of background as I go along.)
starting with the Planet
Khazk. The only inhabited world of the Khazarn system, located near the Vostroyan system. The system counts 4 planets. The first along the line, Thyme, a desolate desert world. Khazken scientists recorded that a barbaric tribe lives on the planet, the tribesmen calling themselves "the Scimitar's". The tribesmen live as a nomadic people, devided into multiple subtribes, called Families. The tribe got their name from the tradition of wearing exquisite scimitars. Khazk military tends to recruit a small part of the adolescent tribesmen. shipping them back to Khazk for bodyguard training. The trained Scimitar bodyguards accompany the most worthy Imperial guard Officers.
The second planet along the line is Tharko, a once habitated world, but purged after the government declared themselves Seperatists. (information on The Tharko uprising press link:...ACCESS DENIED. LINK DAMAGED. MAINTENANCE REQUIRED. The purging went well for the loyalists. Tharko was purged so thoroughly, the once vivid world urned into a desolate landscape, its sprawling forests reduced to a bleak grey land. Nothing lives on the planet, nothing is possible to.
The third planet is Acroll. A medium sized planet. Acroll was turned into a prison planet. Imperial delinquents, sended from different nearby systems, never see the ouside again. Except when selected for the Penal Legions, The convicts future looks bleak.
The last, and most important, planet down the line is Khazk itself. A vast planet devided into two parts by the planet's meridian. one part, is a vast manufactorum/forgeworld. Tanks found in any Imperial Guard Army are constructed on this world. along with lasguns, laspacks, mortars, grenades, missile launchers, etc. in the middle of the manufactorum, is the Space port. Around the space port, valkyries and other aircraft are made. Above the space port, out in space, lies the Khazk Dockjard. Ships of battlefleet Khazk are being rearmed, refit. Indeed, new ships are made here too, used to tranport the armies of Khazk to do Imperial justice on far flung worlds.
The other part of the planet, is the fortress part of Khazk. Inside The Fortress lives the greatest part of Khazk's populace. Ready to be conscripted in the Guard or to other task on the Planet.
voila, the 1st part of the background is done. Now give me some time to think aout the next part. Ideas are welcome.

It's good so far.
You should show how the system's population will be reflected in the units in your army.

Woo, fluff! Keep it up, the 40k 'verse needs fan fiction (basic Guard units are cool, but the Imperium needs flavour)
|
I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas
Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "
Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms. |

on to the next part. The Tharkan Uprising. 50 Imperial years back, the Governor of Tharko, declared himself Separatist. And with it, his entire planet followed. Tharko's Governor, Boriatrix, an old man in his late fifties, ruled his planet with an iron fist. He had at his disposal, a large army of Seperatists. Tharko was a mining world, and thanks to it's large PDF, who enforced the populace with shotgun and lasgun, The miners were able to get large quantities of mining profit. The governor claimed that he rightfully owned all the mining income, and was sick of giving up half of his profit to the system's capitol, Khazk. WIth that the governor declared himself Separatist, starting it's own economy. Khazk couldn't ignore this, and sent diplomats to try and convince Boriatrix the error of his ways. Unfortunately, Boriatrix ignored the arguments of the diplomats, and Khzak was forced to make a decision. Or call for help to the Adeptus traitoris, who would certainly devastate Tharko and all of the surrounding planets for good measure. This, or solve this as an internal problem. Khazk chose the latter. Khazk Military sent a strike fleet to Tharko. containing of three troop transports, small spacecraft that were able to transport a single regiment. The 17th Khazk Infantry, the 701st armoured 'Iron Eaters' together with elements from the 98th artillery, and the 60th Khazk infantry were being sent planet-side. accompanying the troop transports was the Vengeance class grand cruiser 'Khazk's Sword'. The ongoing battle would be bloody. With the battle's going on on an industrialized mining world. Tharko's atmosphere added to the difficulties opposed to the Khazk' strike force. the planet was one big ball of sand, with razing winds sweeping up. Fighting would not be able without protective goggles and masks, covering the whole head. (Imperial Flak Helmets were dropped, due to cumbersome in Tharko's environment.) Eventually, the Loyalists triumphed. Governor Boriatrix was eliminated by one strike team squad of hardened Veterans of the 17th infantry. Boriatrix was killed inside his office of the planetary Palace. The Tharkan populace was shocked by the assassination of their governor. All around the planet, local PDF officers trained civilian volunteers to fight a guerrilla war against the 'invaders', the forthcoming skirmishes finding place in the mining refineries, and even under the ground, inside the mines. The Khazk 60th infantry was evacuated off planet, due to 68% casualties. (The 60th was later refit and reamed, and put back to service 16 years after the Tharko conflict.) The 17th infantry remained to fight the guerrillas. The majority of the 701st Armoured were shipped back to orbit. Only the Sentinal squads of the 701st remained planetside, the walkers were still able to stalk the small and winding corridors. Untill a small craft arrived around Tharko's atmosphere, and joined with the strike fleet. on the small frigate, was inquisitor Vandeborg. Inquisitor Vandeborg declared the poppulace of Tharko Heretic, and ordered the withdrawal of all Imperial forces and materiel, before ordering the purge of the planet by Virus bomb. al that remained of Tharko was a large grey bole of nothing. The Khazk 17th infantry and 701st armour became famous in the sector for fighting the rebellion, and both regiments were considered veteran. The regiments were refit and rearmed, and put back in service. (Regimental history of the 17th infantry found in datalink 758/T89/17thK///) Voila, another piece of history done.

Just thinking out loud, but though I really like the fluff, I'm wondering why the armoured regiments remained. In guerilla war, vehicles are the first to go. Surely it makes more sense to replace them with more infantry. Especially underground, tanks would be next to useless.

I like what i'm reading so far. It would be interesting if the Khazk guardsmen became specialists in rebellion crushing, due to their incorruptibility, a bit like the Gurkhas of the British army. One question, though, you mention that half of the kahzk homeworld is a "fortress",was it crusade staging ground or somesuch? And why do most of the Khazkis (khazkians?) reside there? the reason i ask is that Khazk sounds a bit similar to Cadia, which is fortified because of its proximity to the eye of terror. I'm curious to hear why this occured on Kazhk.

Err, I need to work on that. It might take a while until I made up my mind. But thanks for reminding me of that. I haven't wrote up the reason for this Half Fortress world.
Well, I guess, when I started considering the fluff for them, I thought it would be cool that Khazk had a rebelion in the 39th millenium or so. That would be a good reason to construct a fortress taking up half of the planet's land spaces.

That could would work. If the rebellion at some point turned into a trench warfare style stalemate, or if the war turned against the loyalists and they had to adopt a siege mentality to survive that could easily explain the necessity of planet wide fortifications, you might even want to read up on the origins of the Death Korps of Krieg (similar situation, different outcome) for a little inspiration.

yeah I might have to do some research on the DKK. I'll eventually find a well based reason for it.
