My dipped Ogres. What do you think of them? Used Minwax and folkart paints mostly. Only GW stuff I used was the models themselves and the static grass. I haven't yet found a cheap comparable alternative to that yet.

The last picture is the models with a matte varnish. Thank goodness too! That's a big part of dipping models. Since this time I have dipped another unit of bulls, a unit of 8 Ironguts and am trying to bust out some Gnoblars (the little gits). How am I doin?

So here's everything I have finished so far. Two units of Bulls, a unit of 8 Ironguts, 4 Leadbelchers and a Gorger.

Only thing I regret about dipping is I let too much pool on the rocks hanging from the Ironguts' standard. Oh well.

Still to come is 40 gnoblars, 10 trappers, 1 gorger, 2 butchers, a Battle Standard Bearer, and a Tyrant. Geez...

Thos ogres look great. It is simply amazing what some cheap wood stain can do for an army. Everytime I see the dipping method and results people are getting it compels me more and more to go in that direction. The only delimma I have is that I dont know how well the Min wax works compared to the army painter version. But I am really not interested in dropping 30$ on the army painter dip! Did you have to spin your models? What stain color did you go with? Again they turned out fantastic!

675 points of Commoraghs finest!

For a comparison for The Army Painter versus the Minwax, see this blog for this guy's work. For saving $25 plus shipping I'll stick with Minwax.

Element206 Did you have to spin your models? What stain color did you go with? Again they turned out fantastic!

I painted on the Minwax, no spinning. For the ogres I felt like I had more control over where the stain went than dipping it entirely in the can. For the Imperial Guard I'm doing in another post I may consider dipping to avoid reacting with the spray paint base.

Honestly, the result depend a lot on the base. If you find the color you want but the spray has a gloss finish you'll be in trouble: the stain won't stick as well. You really need satin or matte finish spray paint to get good overall results.

Butcher

Gorger

Tyrant

Battle Standard Bearer

Butcher

Here's the latest work I've got. I have to say that I am not a fan of green stuff. I surely need a lot more practice! Each butcher's apron was made from a bad bath of green stuff. It was extra gritty for some reason. It sort of adds to the effect, but then again it also looks like gritty green stuff. I really am not a fan of the GW Butcher, so these two will work for now.

As for my Battle Standard Bearer, I would have loved to make it look more like a ragged bunch of cloth coming from a stolen halberd, but it really looks like three green stuff sausages coming down from a stolen halberd. Oh well, hopefully GW will come out with a killer Battle Standard Bearer model. Until then, this will do.

Probably my favorite of these is the Tyrant. The biggest conversion of his is that the Irongut's hammer has the hand taken off and made into a single handed hammer. I like it. The handle on the bottom is at a bit of a weird angle but I think it'll be fine.

Tonight will be time for spraying on the matte varnish, adding the snow and static grass, and then putting them with the rest of the army. Huzah!
