Before I moved to the US (from the UK), I used to watch movies and think that the crickets in the background were hugely overdone.

Do cricket sounds like cicadas?

We can heard frogs croaking to each other in the back garden some nights, surprisingly loud. We also have an owl that calls at night too.

No, crickets are high-pitched and potentially super loud, whereas cicades are more mid-pitch and like a maraca .

Cicadas = VERY LOUD. Crickets times ten.

Urban foxes are the worst nocturnal animal noise I've encountered. They sound somewhat like a cat or human baby being murdered.

I had an idiotic neighbour who used to feed the foxes with dog food. God help us all any time she ran out or went away!
