Darren Aronofsky might have been more adventurous and Matt Reeves might have been more Spielberg-ian, but as it turns out, the director of the second "Superman" reboot will end up more Dr. Manhattan-ish.
As first broken by Deadline yesterday evening, producers Christopher Nolan and David Goyer have selected "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder to helm the latest incarnation of "Superman. " Snyder, who's currently in theaters with "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," confirmed last night that he'll start working on "Superman" as soon as he finishes his next movie, "Sucker Punch," out next March. The "Superman" film, with a script by Goyer from an idea by Goyer and Nolan, is expected to be released around Christmas 2012 (assuming the world hasn't ended by then).

I just hope, it doesnt suck something fierce like last time. God that movie was awful. The only cool part was when the bullet smashed against Supermans eyeball. I want to like Superman...but these films just are not helping

My personal observation and opinions with movies involving Zack Snyders is that while he is good at being faithful to source material and delivering fairly well in terms of action he doesn't seem to be all that particularly good when it comes to dialogue, I distinctly remember watching Watchmen and 300 and being bored to death with how all conversations were executed. Hopefully this won't carry over into whatever Superman reboot they have planned.

You obliviously didn't see the Imax 3-D version of the airplane rescue because that was all sorts of awesome.
I think they want to make a more action oriented Superman, one in which he actually fights some powerful creature (Darksied, Bizarro, ect) as opposed to all the other movies which were very very light on combat. I think they wanted to avoid the Superman chamber drama of Supermans Returns and so Snyder is a good choice as he has a good track record with highly stylized violence.
