Subject: Glowing Sores on Obliterators

I've searched through many tutorials and can't seem to find just what I'm looking for:
I have some converted Obliterators from some old-school metal loyalist terminators with bits from CSM termies and contour putty for the tumor/flesh effect covering their bodies. Trouble is, I want them to have glowing sores.
I'm thinking either a blue or a purple... or maybe both in different areas. I just can't seem to figure out what the process should be to make them work. I've seen many different painted lighting effects but can't seem to get them down myself (I'm practicing them over the flesh tone painted on some plastic).
Anyone have any tips/paint color recommendations/techniques they would be willing to share?

Finished assembling/painting base colors and some detail. I'm not sure I like how the putty came out in the end, especially when covered in skin tone... looks like (to me) dried up bubblegum. The girlfriend thinks they look like they went and got all messy at a clay sculpting class. I'm thinking a wash or two might help with the overall look, as a lot of lining and detail is lost in the uniform color. I can't figure out what wash I need to get the right look on both the armor and the "skin/tumors". Not very experienced with washes! Also, the question on how to effectively make glowing sores still stand. I notice that when I use a shining metallic light blue for their eyes it works well in contrast to the black, but I have a suspicious feeling that it may not be the same case with the "skin/tumors". This, of course, may not be a problem if I use the correct washes. p.s. I apologize for the fuzzy pictures, low quality camera.

I don't mean to sound harsh or anything but this just looks like terminators who have been rolling around in dough...
I think using a combination of spawn and terminators makes very nice oblitorators.

I'm not trying to sound rude, but before you do any painting, you need to redo those with some referance material and a little study on technique. As it stands, they're pretty... well, bad. There's no shape, form, or texture to the putty, it's not placed artistically but rather just slapped everywhere, and rather than working with a small blob and spreading it out to cover more area, you've just heaped on piles of the stuff. Start with smaller conversions until you get some good practice in. Then attempt more complex projects like this. It's a good idea, it really is, but you need to work on your abilities a bit more before trying this. Especially considering you're doing this with OOP Metal Termies, it's very important that you take extra care with this project. Terraformer's RoB Chaos Wasteland board has a couple of fleshy growths as terrain, and his included how-to on skin textures and the like might really benefit you here.

I was hoping for a better streamlined look at first, but using smaller amounts didn't give me the results I wanted.
Essentially it is pretty much terminators rolled in dough. A considerable amount of detail is lost, though, due to the camera resolution. As I said before, I was hoping that a wash might alleviate this, popping out the lines here and there, but didn't know which wash works best with flesh tone for that purpose.
Honestly though, my abilities, especially with sculpting and fine detail with paints, are a bit stunted as I have tremors, but I try to push through anyhow and make at least game worthy miniatures.
@metallifan: I can't seem to locate the RoB Chaos Wasteland board you referenced, could you provide me with a link?

Read through. His projects are more terrain than minis, but a lot of the practices he uses can be carried over into miniature painting as well.

Thanks a ton!
Although, still no one has mentioned where to go for a decent tutorial on glowing sores, lol!
