Some local friends have decided that they will be hosting a plot driven escalation game this winter. Like many dakkites I suffer from modeling wanderlust. By this I mean that I have a tendency to lose interest in a project after about 40 models. I've been trading back and forth for the past 4 years on this site as well as rogue-market.com and I've learned one thing. If you are looking, you'll always find some one who is tired of space marines.
Back in 93 I picked up a box of RT marines. When 99 rolled around, I decide to pick up the hobby again and repaint those models as blood angels. Although I had improved heavily in the painting department, there was only so much I could do to revive those models after having been attacked by 13 year olds with testers model car paint. As the years rolled by Games workshop had released so many cheap space marines trying to snag new plastic addicts that you could build an army by simply mooching space marines from friends who had lost interest in the hobby. In time I found my self with a 100 marines but there was a problem. How could I call it a blood angle army if almost every space marine was carrying around a bolter? I sent nearly 40 rt marines to GitSplitta for his mantis project, and then the emperor smiled down upon me with new BA kits! I still need to get a hold of more standard assault marines but other wise have a sizable force.
I have about 2 months until they start these games and I would like to use this as motivation for an attempt to paint the rest of my BA force. I've already mostly settled in my ways as far as painting goes, but there are a few things that this project will force me to face for the first time. 1.) I prefer converting to making a stock force. That is why I finished my slaanesh army first even thought I started it years after this project. 2.) I have about 20 marines that I have received with BA paint jobs. The down side to this is that I want a darker and more dramatic paint job then the usual bright red BA scheme. So when i get around to them I might want some advice as to how to darken them up a bit with out stripping them.
I've have base coated all of the marines that will be painted red, and finished their first few coats, just short of their final red high lights, so from here on in I should have pix rolling in at a steady rate. I have some models that have been finished for nearly ten years now to show you what the idea is, as far as the more drastic scheme is concerned, and I'll keep you posted as i finish new models. After this terrible deed is concluded I will finish my slaanesh marines and sell them to make my dream army (trader guard as Space Pirates!) and then I will probably put the icing on my speed freak Ork army, which I will then sell. ( really want these space pirates!)
So with that all said I'm going to put the laptop down and pick up the brush. Expect some pix tonight or tomorrow before I leave for the weekend.

As promised here are some of the old minis that I painted back in the day when I started this Blood angel project. I have decided to touch up the paint jobs of the rest of the lot to fit in with 5th company paint schemes, but these three and the terminators that I painted back in the day will remain as they are due to sentimental value.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As you can see through the poor quality of my photographs I like a slightly darker scheme for my BAs. I intend to continue this with the new models so when I get around to bright ones that I have traded off of Dakkites and Rogue-marketers, I would like a little advice on ink washing to look like my paint job before I just say screw and strip them. But before we get to that here are the models that I intent to paint when I get back from washinton state, on the 2nd of November.

The terminators with the lighting claws were a Dakka trade, probably the best trade I have ever made. These mean mo-fappies were Black Templars so I had to scrape off some emblems and in the future I will have to free hand the blood drops. If you look closely on the sergeants left hand you will be barely able to make out the iron cross that I missed. I noticed it today while finishing up the red coats. So I will have to razor it of and then touch up the paint job so far. While painting today I found an obstacle that is going to prevent me from finishing any models. I am out of any form of silver or gun metal paint. I'm pretty good to go on gold and bronze, but cashed on the white metal... Not really that big of a deal right now, because I have nearly 40 models to work on, so I could easily fill that time with red coats. When I get back from Washington state, I will take a full army shot, so you can get an idea as to ho much I intend to finish by the end of this year. I'm still a little terrified by the size of this project. Up until this point I have only modeled when the mood strikes, but this project kind of requires me to have set goals each week. I know that to a lot of you this doesn't sound like an issue, but I don't want to loose my love of the hobby and 40k doesn't pay my bills. On the other hand I have let a lot of these guys sit on my counter unpainted for years, even though BA is my first army, as well as my largest. I'll never understand how I managed to finish as many orks as I did last year. I managed to talk my friend into splitting two AoBR boxes, and as a way of motivating him to finish his paint jobs I slammed out a full army as fast as I could. That wasn't to hard at the time, because I was dating a girl who watched a lot of tv, so when ever she turn on the idiot box, I pulled out the paint box.

Arlington TX, but want to be back in Seattle WA

Yes, they are definately dark. Cant wait ot see the pics of the rest. You really have a baroque theme going on here. I like mine dark as well (I dont highlight in orange or paint the model in blood red), but mine are still much more bright than these. Nice work .... i like the different look of corbulo

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

Yep those guys still look pretty dark but that's because I have only done the base coats and the camera just wasn't up for the job. The standard troop will be about as bright as the terminator captain in the earlier photos.

I have made a little progress on my Death Company. I've primed and base coated 7 + Lemartes. I love painting skulls so I finished Lemartes helmet and right shoulder pad.
And now for the bad news. I don't have access to a functioning camera. But I wouldn't worry. I'll barrow one soon, and then I'll post them up for you.

Wow I took for ever to find a camera , but I have a pick heavy update to share. I want to admit that I feel like I haven't shared enough eye candy with the community. So here is a the project that I need to finish up this winter.

[Thumb - IMG_1336.JPG]
my are born wips.

[Thumb - IMG_1337.JPG]
these are my devastator so far. as you can see some one needs to trade me some heavy bolters.

[Thumb - IMG_1338.JPG]
this is kind of embarassing. I thoung I had more options. I do have a lot of pistol flamers and melta, but I don;t really intend to use them.

[Thumb - IMG_1341.JPG]
this is a full shot of what I have assemble so far.

I usually order miniatures online (because I can't afford this hobby. )but I try to help local hobby shops, so for my birth day I ordered my self 2 tech priests at a local gamer store that just opened. When I got the email telling me that my order was in I noticed that they had messed up my order. In the end the whole point was to support a local store that holds game nights and interduces me to new players. So here he is. Still a wip.

The next pictures are ideas I'm kicking around for my space pirate vets. In my fluff the men and women fought together before imperial contact. this is a first attempt at a female vet. I have cut away the arms and added Elysian drop troop arms, which are slender so they work fo the female frame. I need t figure out what to use to build a jet pack on her. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I love the idea of non imperial tech, so my space pirates need there own tech priests. this is the model I want to use. I have the tech priest back pack but I'm not sure I like the look. I'ld like to have somthing sleeker maybe just the back pack but keep the spanner drill arm thing? really I don't know.

A daemon prince for my Slaanesh army. Panted this guy when I was on vacation. For some reason the purple high lights don't show in this picture as well as the reds and greens or dust. But here he is. For the points this guy is so fantastic.

I love Tyranids. I think they are the most intimidating army produced by GW. So I made this.
