Actually its kind of funny, I always give advice to people that they should paint nids in a more organic fashion....obviously i dont listen to my own advice

I'm not a fan of the colours, but your skill with the paintbrush is inspiring, I wish I could paint this well.

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter.

I like it. I find bright colours look better on a gaming board and as an army as a whole. As a mini by itself with a close up? Well, that comes down to personal opinion.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

For me the highlighting on the brown is too...stark, sudden, not sure what the word is.

Is that a good example of extreme highlighting?

As OoieGoie said that'll work well on the tabletop.

Yeah, thats basically what killed my interest in nids...when i found out that i didnt know the technique to make their plates and hooves look cool and natural. The skin came out alright, eventually i could have gotten the blends smoother, but I was lost on the shell plates, got discouraged, and sold the guys I had bought.

I find the whole extreme highlighting thing a fascinating technique. I can't work out if I like it or not, which is why I stick to (or attempt) blending/layering for a smooth(ish) transition.

Shame you sold them, you would have had a unique looking nid army.

i would like to start a new army....a small force, i just simply have too many projects in mind before I get to that. At least another year. I have to complete my BA, Eldar, IG, and with the new DE coming out, they are getting pushed back further and further. But we will see. I appreciate the compliments

I like it, and agree on the cell shaded comment. An army like this would be eye-catching.

thanks alot. Im really glad im getting positive comments about it. Its perhaps inspiring me to start up the army again..especially considering my painting skills have definately improved since then. I would imagine that a glowing blue nid army rampaging over terrain towards you would be pretty intimidating!

I didn't see the brown as highlights, I took it as a natural skin colour with a pattern on it.

It looks like you could paint this pretty quickly which is an important factor given the number of Gants in most Tyranid forces.

You could try a light Miracle Dip to bring it all together.
