I'm really interested in starting an Elysian IG army, but FW is way too expensive to buy troops from. Any ideas on achieving the same look with cheap conversions and whatnot? Thanks.

you could use cadian bodies and find cheep gasmasks on the internet. I don't really know because i don't play IG.

Well, I want the look of the lighter armor, chiefly their smaller shoulder pads and their helmets. I could buy the Elysian heads from FW, maybe the weapons pack too. The problem is, I don't want this to cost much more than a normal IG army would.

Check out halfway down this page for Xenon's excellent light infantry Guard. Mostly they are Catachan based, but there are some excellent Cadian based models. I understand that the shoulder pads were trimmed down individually to get the lighter armour and then bulked up a bit with GS. Long winded but effective. Also Xenon's modded modern tech weapons are astoundingly cool

Ooh, I like those. How do you think these heads would look on 'em? Too big? too armored for a 5+ save?

I think the open visor helmets look a bit funny, but thats just me. I use the closed visor heads for my own guard (pics in my gallery) and they look good. They are actually a bit smaller than normal Cadian heads so they would probably also go well with lighter armour.

Like Flinty has pointed out, I think the best way to represent Elysians without using the actual model is to use Cadians and file down the shoulder pads. You can then use plasticard or GS to make smaller ones or just leave it like that.

Also, notice how every Elysians has kneepads and elbow pads - those are really easy to sculpt with GS. Other than that, I think a lot pouches, backpacks and some gasmasks here and there should do the job.

Thanks for your help guys. I think I'll use GS'd Cadians and Pig Iron heads. Maybe the Pig Iron backpack sprue too.

Ok dakka, I'm going to revive this real quick-like because I want your opinions on paint schemes. Which camo do you like best of these three? Which visor color?

its a toss up between the first and last one, i like the red visor best, possibly with the colour scheme on he first one.

I'd love to, but the first one is so... unoriginal. It is GW's color scheme, or at least it is in better lighting.
