Hey guys,

Here's a pic of a guardian I came across and decided to paint. It's largely based off of one of the Tau's color schemes I liked and is a bit pitted because of my difficulties with working with white paint.

Anyhoo, I don't like Craftworlds because it's harder to make up fluff if only a handful exist, and it makes it harder to heavily customize models. For me, I'd basically swap all of the Aspect Warrior and Fire Dragon helmets out for Guardian heads. Those clown-shoes circus helmets have always turned me away from the army. And the harlequins? Zain-Jar? Good luck convincing people you are a hetero...

So that basically brings me to this model and the decision that if I build more, to go exodite to get more possibilites. And for a mostly white uniform, I had thought A arctic world (think Iceland) with tundra, water effects, tufts of brownish-green grass, and some models standing in a snow drift. Do you think that would go with how this model below looks? If not, throw me some suggestions.

Interesting color scheme. I think it leaves the guardian with a very basic look and feel to it. I think this type of scheme would require lots of highlighting to make it look right. I would recommend starting off by base coating the model fortress grey and working up from there. The same with the black face, you could highlight using Hawk turquoise mixed with black....I think it could turn out though look very nice if done right.

Yeah. I am definitely not a pro painter. Despite how hard I try. Maybe that's because I need to step away from the bottle... naah.

Seriously, though. A lot of this stuff I am still really new at. I've only been painting minis for about a year. I wish I could get some good practice in without wasting it on $15 models.

EDIT: I have Codex Grey... would that be suitable?

Actually, here's a couple of more pictures where you can see better where I *attempted* some shading. The flash kindof washed out the last one.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Looking good!
Maybe you should base him though eh?

What do you mean, base? I put a basecoat of white underneath. Actually it was about 6 coats. And if you guys want me to base it in grey, well then to what end? The plastic is already grey.

its nice but the paint looks a little thick, if its white armour you want then just spray it white to begin with and add a few black/grey outlines for defanition for the base add some snow flock. I find it thhe easyest to use and it looks pretty good too hope that helps

Automatically Appended Next Post:
btw, base means adding bits of sand, snow or grass to the base of your model. or base coat means, as you know, an under layer of paint

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

1. Sand and a bit of gravel
2. paint dark grey
3. paint light grey
4. mix P.V.A with white and add to base
5. snow flock on base
result: cool snowy base.

Maybe a bit unclear but you can work it out... right?

Oh yeah. Definitely. I was confused for a minute there.

And yeah, the paint is definitely thicker than it ought to be, but this is my first prototype... all of the other models are airbrushed white.

I went on TheWarStore and bought some "tundra" effects like snow, fine grit brown gravel (will paint that), brown-ish water effects and winter grass. It might turn out well.

If you dont like a winter scheme try a pink forest full of teletubbies.

(no dont you'll just ruin the model)

--well you can. Get yourself a bottle of the cleaning agent 'simple green.' Every time you test a color scheme, if you end up not liking it, drop the figure in this stuff for about 4 days. Then come back and clean off the paint with a toothbrush. Works everytime and never harms the model or the detail!

Is there a way to strip off vallejo satin and gloss varnish without tearing up the model as well?
