Hello all

I'm new at modeling but I have been reading 40K books for some time now, and the idea for a slightly odd project has dawned in my feeble Slaanesh-infected mind, with which I would like your help.

During Eisenhorn we are introduced, albeit briefly, to a group of substance abusers known as 'twists' whose addiction causes grotesque mutations such as multiple extra eyes, tentacles; all sorts of lovely stuff like that.

I was wondering if anyone has previously attempted to make a twist army using Space Marines and a truckload of patience?

I did look for quite a ways through the forums but didn't see anything about it - if you've done it or know of someone who has, please let me know and I'll do something else - I don't want to be even an unintentional plagiarist.

If no-one has done it, and you think it would be a good idea, (if done in a way not at all reminiscent of a certain subgenre of Japanese adult entertainment), please let me know.

Advice on materials for tentacles, claws et cetera will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Maybe the possesed chaos marines would have aload of spare claws and tenticles and stuff?

IIRC, the possessed dont have tentacles, but they do have claws.

for tentacles, look at getting the chaos mutations sprue and the Spawn box. with alittle work, the spawn tentacles could work for space marines

Thank you both for replying - and starting an avian theme, chicken and raven.

I will definitely look at the sprue and spawn box; I'm still not sure if I will make the modifications from scratch with some kind of modeling medium or use bits of other models.

Time will tell, as will pictures, when I eventually make my first twist marine!

This was encouraged back when the CSM box still came with the Mutation Sprue. The Spawn boxset is a great place to start. In addition there's a few tutorials on the web about how to make feathers and wings.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Thanks for the advice - spent a good while yesterday afternoon looking at tutorials and painting a normal Space Marine scout.

I am going to Nottingham Rock City next Sunday night so I'm kinda obligated to drag myself to Games Workshop HQ (wherein resides the actual Golden Throne) Monday morning.

Perforated eardrums have an effect on wargaming you say? Pah!

Straightening out staples and using them as a frame to build green stuff tentacles should be a fairly straightforward little job. Maybe use the lid of a Biro to get some circular indentations in them too?

Best of luck - sounds like it's a decent project.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm leaning towards at least partial scratch building.

But a buddy of mine has tried sculpting with green stuff over unfolded paper clips and said it just fell away - maybe such a thin skeleton couldn't support the weight?

At some point this week I'll attempt a tentacle and show it off if it works.

Hello again

Thanks to everyone who views and comments. Well, I've finally made some tentacles A pal of mine came up with some excellent supporting fluff so that I can still use all my planned units (Terminator Chaplain and Daemonhunter Inquisitor as HQ, vanilla Space Marine land raider and Chaos Space Marines, amongst others).

My chapter is a radical Daemonhunter unit, using Chaos to fight Chaos, hence the tentacles. I decided in the end I didn't want them to have drug-induced mutations. Cool as it would have been to use mostly Space Wolves and call them 'The Crackhounds'. So I'm attaching some photos of where I am so far. I've got five Teminators and each will have one tentacle protruding from a different body part. This is the first, and the only way I could get the tentacle to retain a curve was to attach the tip to his shoulder, which deformed it somewhat.

Please forgive the poor picture quality; I tried to show off the little suction cups on the base of the tentacle as well as my freehanded chapter symbols, but it didn't turn out too well. Also disappointing was the revelation that Havoc marines already exist after I'd settled on Havok as a chapter name - it's close to Chaos but more evocative of wanton carnage, and the K makes it... er... futuristic...

Hello again - I've actually carried on with this, much to my own surprise/delight/occasional chagrin.

Please let me know what you think - I've thrown in some cheesy freehanded shoulder pads so that, lined up, they'll spell H-A-V-O-K.

The next model will be the most difficult; going to drill through the kneepad and use a scalpel to scrape the plastic outward in a rough starburst, and have the tentacle protruding from the hole, so that it looks like the kneecap has been blown out by the emerging tentacle.

Well until then, here's where I'm at - painting and sculpting advice is always welcome.
