Hello,
First, let me say I love this model, however getting a scheme on it is some work, what I have done is chosen purple (claws, hoves, hair), black leather armor bits, and a custom thong, and really pale flesh. THe wings are black as well with purple highlights. What I did different then normal is gloss coat the claws, to give them a wet look, and the thong as well. THis has turned out to look pretty good, however I wonder what others think of glossing parts of models in this manner?

Regards
Carl

Aw, you can't just post a description like that. We need pictures!

Regarding your question about selective glossing - yes, people do it. There's really no better way to make things look glossy (as wet things do) than gloss varnish. Fresh blood, gaping monster mouths, wet mud, gems, lenses, and the like are all common targets.

As most people like a matte finish on the rest of their model but gloss is more durable, a common practice is to spray with gloss varnish, remove the shine by spraying with matte varnish, then using paint-on gloss varnish to restore the shine to the desired bits. Leaves a very durable coat that will survive play and actually enhances the look of the mini.

The Dreadnote wrote:But the Emperor already has a shrine, in the form of your local Games Workshop. You honour him by sacrificing your money to the plastic effigies of his warriors. In time, your devotion will be rewarded with the gift of having even more effigies to worship.

Indeed, Sersi has been asking for pictures of his painted models for a long time, so I'd post the resulting paintjob up there as well . As for glossing parts of the model, I used to use gloss varnish for strength, matt varnish again to bring down the gloss and then selectively gloss the shiny bits back up again. This is why my old models can fall from the board and happily bounce without chipped paint. However, once you have put that many layers of varnish on, any adjustments to the paintjob become a nightmare and you'll lose a lot of the detail if you try to paint over it.

Don't triple varnish plastic models unless you're sure you've finished the paintjob.

Hello all,
Well I have been right busy and so have not got to work on the princess as much as I would like (commision work and school). However I have done some work on her, I have recieved a few useful comments already when I posted it in Sersi's post, however I am asking for more. I few things I should note, I do not have a airbrush, and I am experimenting with the gloss vs. matte finshes for the claws, I also have not painted resin since my cannon of Khorne in 1997. LadyCassandra has already pointed me in the direction of needing to blend a bit more on the matte arm , however this will probably not done much toward until wed, classes and all. Oadie, I added pictures this time As I finish more I will be posting them.

Regards,
Carl

Looking hot. What made you go with a realistic flesh tone?

Hello,
I felt it made her a bit more disturbing, as she was not as far from her Eldar roots this way, so perhaps (sporific musk) it might make her enimies pause a bit before attacking her.

Woah! That is looking very sweet! I never considered going for a realistic paint job, but I like it I really do. Have you decided on the which head to use yet?

Really, I have the tentacle head one on my personal DP#2. I did end up positioning the tentacles over the right shoulder though. The wings were more of an issue than the fin for me.

I think we are talking about the same head, the one where you pose the hair? by putting it on, I think 18 or so pieces?

Yep same head...21 tentacles I believe.

It looks like you've already attached them but I would suggest warming them in hot water and posing the tentacles first. You also might want sand them a bit to eliminate the mold lines. She looks great so far.

Hello,
Well, kinda slow, as they are a undivided army there are lots of them, and I have had a few commisions coming in as well, the board has been a pet project of mine for a bit, as the old one was just unuseable for more then like 15 models per side. Its in the 6th pic in the right corner. Tommarow I should get a littlte more time to work on them,so far only Huggsy, and some plaguebearers are done, with a few Diaz daemonettes as well as the princess in progress. How goes the grinder?

Carl

She's getting close. I took a deep breath and cut her head off this afternoon. A necessary step but it also let be see it from a new perspective. The face I can now see needs for revisions, but nothing the major. I want to get her done by Sunday night. I've already ordered more silicon to cast her and the Big KOS. So I'm hoping to see the first casts by Tuesday.

Hello,
I am back to getting some things done on the princess, I finally got that other wing on . So ere we go.

Regards,
Carl

1. Finally got the other wing on.

2. Front view, the lack of semmetry I kind of like as it would be like that I would think, especially while running.

3. Closer, front view.

4. This shows the wing I already had on, you can see the purple highlights a litte better.

5. Closer then the last, however it lets you see the blending going up the leg a little better, and because of shadows does not show the wing as well .

6. This angle makes it easier to see the purple as well. The cuff is better viewed as well.

7. New wing, left.

8. Right wing shown better.

Awesome to see one being painted. I really want to get one of those once Christmas is up and I'm done with my Pretty Marines.

It'd be awesome to lead my eventual Mono-Slaanesh Daemon army I'm bit by bit working on.
