Here are some pictures of my 500 point kroot army which I painted in about 6 hours...

(the army was writen from the kroot codex v5.84)
(the mounted kroot are meant to be knarloc riders, but I needed to make the army for a game the next day, so I could not order knarloc riders of forge world)

Sounds about right, i havent read a kroot codex (or seen one) however in the tau codex the kroot have only one entry

The kroot codex is quite interesting, as you can have kroot with scouts, and fleet of foot, so that they infiltrate 18" away from enemys, then get D6" scout move 6", run D6" and assault 6" (for a total of 14"-24") which usually will reach the enemy. You then get 3 str4 attacks per model

Tau auxilaries are a better bet, converting a couple of squads for my army soon. Kroot have great models though.

Thats an unofficial Fandex. There isnt an official Kroot codex, you can make a kroot army using some forgeworld models like the Great Gnarloc.
Unfortunately it doesnt have much substance and is easily beaten. I dont think they will ever have their own codex either as they are essentially just auxiliaries that Tau use for the greater good.
This doesnt stop you from making an army of them for non competative games and/or coolness factor. Just be sure to let your opponent know their rules before you start playing

Here is a legal Kroot Mercenary codex that you may want to try if you like the look of the various Kroot models. It uses Dark Eldar rules, and is actually competitive if you take the right units.
