Subject: Paint Scheme for my Storm Griffons Marines?

Was going through different ideas for a paint scheme. I'm naming my chapter the Storm Griffons. I chose several colors for the paint scheme cause I have a lot of free time on my hands at the moment. Problem is I'm completely new to painting. The last time I played was the third edition boxed set of marines. Hopefully the color choices wont be too difficult to paint in table top quality. The below colors are basically orange, grey, white, black and golden yellow. Suggestions and constructive comments appreciated.

the last one I'd say
colors are more harmonious
I like the yellow with the orange
meh about the white

10k pts Eldar (no jetbikes -- how is that possible?)
2k pts 3rd edition Wolves (no werewolves or clifford cavalry -- but I do have a nifty Leman Russ Exterminator shaped paperweight)
3k pts chaos marines

White is difficult to paint for beginners, so you know. I would say go for a more traditional scheme - either orange with black trim or grey with orange trim, etc. You are doing way too much on that guy and painting it will be a pain. If you want something less than ordinary a 1/2-and-1/2 scheme or quartered scheme look awesome if done well (use tape and/or silly putty to mask!).

Agreed.
Like where you are going with the idea. Just simplify. Fewer colors, simplify the scheme, and you will save yourself a world of headache and a ton of time.

Well, just bored and tinkered with something that I thought looked decent. Feel free to disregard it entirely.

I like the colors, except what I dont like is that each of these templates just look to busy and unbalanced. If your eyes cant clearly identify the pattern of the armor within a few seconds, its just gonna look like a confusing mess to other players. I would recommend definately refining the color scheme a little more until the pattern that your going for is obvious.

Thanks, this helps me simplify and your version looks a lot more clean cut. I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.... I've cleaned it up and simplified so here's another one. (At least I've got the colors I like to work with)

Personal favorite is the scheme on the loincloth marine. Simple, striking, and identifiable. The black and white give a nice touch of contrast, as opposed to your latest scheme, which I think will look like a disjointed sea of warm tones on the tabletop. If all of your colors are too close together, they'll just blend into each other and details will get lost.
If you want to do something distinct, like coloring one arm as you did in your last scheme, do it in a contrasting color. Think the Crimson Fists would look nearly as good as the Slightly Lighter Blue Fists?

ok this one is a lot like the suggested loin cloth version (which i do like). I definately want the right arm to be a solid distinct color for sure. let me know what you think

In every one you have posted, there doesnt seem to be a pattern. createa pattern identifiable easily by the eye, and it will work straightaway.
