Hey guys!

I'm an old DE player, and I'm REALLY excited about the update. Been devouring the codex the last couple of nights, and put all the info there into an excel spreadsheet. Add some basic Excel programming, and I got a full working armybuilder for the new Dark Eldar. Nothing fancy, but it got all the unitstats and wargear, and their appropriate point cost and so on.

Long story short, is anyone interested in downloading an excel armybuilder for the new DE? If so I'll upload it on zippy or something.

Reason I haven't yet is I'm not sure distribution of stuff like that is against forum policy (as I use GWs info, even if the coding was made by me!). Also, I sincerely apologise if this is put in the wrong place. First post and all that.

[EDIT]

I decided to upload the editor, and also kept updating it. The newest version can be found in this post. Read changelogs and info in thread. If anyone feels a need for info and changelog as a separate .txt say so in this thread and I will make and add one.

Also, the "new" Dark Eldar aren't exactly new any more. Have patience with that

Uploaded to Rapidshare
Also uploaded with this post. Same file, though.

There are three visible pages in the file: Main Page, Unit Stats, Wargear. Almost all the work goes on in the main page.

Main Page

there are 2 white cells, and 2 white columns. These come pre-filled with some simple instructions and examples. All this can be deleted and replaced with whatever you want.

The first thing to do is set a point value (this is set to 1500 when you download it). If your just fooling around, you can leave this out.

next look at the two white columns. One is labled "#", and that is the amount of units on the same row. The second is labled "Unit Name", and that is the name of the unit / Upgrade / Wargear.

The reason for both is every entry has an allocated point cost. The total cost is multiplied with the amount of units in the group. This total cost is then SUBTRACTED from the total points value you entered earlier. This way, it is always clear how many points are remaining.

Remember though. Spelling is key! The oding behind this has alot of = hanging around. This means your spelling needs to exactly match the spelling in the unit list and wargear section. Fear not, for this is not as hard as it seems. Everything is spelled correctly as in the codex. Some modifications do occur though:

  • Unit Names are in plural (usually with an "s" on the end) Example: Kabalite Warriors, Wyches, Wracks, Medusae

  • Characters, Vehicles and Wargear are in singular (I.E. there is just one!) This is even the case if you want to change all 3 lances on a ravager. Add the 3 in the "#" and leave the "s" out in the name. (3 | Disintegrator Cannon)

  • Vehilce Upgrades vary. You get one Shock Prow, Flickerfield, but you get Slinter RackS, Chain SnareS, Cluster CaltropS etc. When in doubt, check the codex or the extra pages

  • Once you have your list plotted out, to the correct points value, you roll for drugs. Enter this result (1-6) in the last white space (called Drug Roll: ), and it will tell you the effect of the drug as well as the name. Because of space-saving issues, all the units with drugs get the name of the drug to the far right of the roster. So you can easily see what units have drgs and what dont. Sadly, I haven't been able to get the statchanges into the statlines yet, but I'm working on it. I'll post an update as soon as I get that working.

    Unit Stats
This is just taken straight from the codex. There is, however, one reason you would want to check this out: If you are unsure about spelling on a unit, this is where the code checks against. So you need to spell it the same way it is put here. If an entry doesn't work properly, you probably didn't spell it the way it should. Check here to find out what is required. Examples of this: "Warriors" is wrong, "Kabalite Warriors" is right. "Bloodbride" is wrong, "Hekatrix Bloodbride" is right.

There is nothing you can change on this page. Everything is locked and password protected.

    Wargear
Same thing as with unit stats. This is all the data taken straight from the codex. Nothing very exciting, yet you could still need to check up on the spelling of that one piece of wargear that doesn't quite work. Examples: write "Blaster", not "Blasters" even if you are getting more then one, "Shardnet and Impaler", don't put these separately.

    End notes and examples
There are more pages then the three that start out visible. Yet everything (except the white spaces on the main page) is both locked, hidden and password protected. So there is no chance you accidentally feth it up. If you try to change something you are not supposed to, Excel will politely refuse and inform you. This also means all the white fields can be filled, deleted and refilled any number of times. So feel free to delete the examples and simple instructions I put there to start out with!

    Examples of the inputs required:

    1 | Succubus
    1 | Agoniser
    4 | Hekatrix Bloodbrides
    1 | Hydragauntlets
    1 | Venom

    10 | Warriors
    1 | Blaster
    1 | Sybarite
    1 | Blast Pistol
    1 | Raider
    1 | Flickerfield
    1 | Chain Snares

    1 | Cronos
    1 | Spirit Siphon

    1 | Ravager
    3 | Disintegrator Cannon

    etc etc etc...

notes: I am currently working on implementing the drug stat changes into the statline, and adding some common "misspellings" (like "Warriors" instead of "Kabalite Warriors"). Let me know if there is anything more you want me to change, and I'll look into it.

    Updated!

    Changes:

  • Added drug stat changes. Any unit affected by the +1 S drug (Grave Lotus) now get a +1 S in their statline. All done automatically, and the same goes with WS and A.

  • Changed protection protocol to allow anyone to modify the width of the columns. This is especially important if anyone uses models with specialrules that fill out the entire "NOTES" column and more. Now you are allowed to read whatever falls outside of the normal boundaries!

  • Enjoy and please leave CnC if you find anything you want improved!

You suggest I put less info about the builder on the forum, or less info into the builder? That was exactly why I started out with asking for forum policy

Was unsure about how they should work. I'll tweak that tomorrow. Also, if a character (archon, as it's only available to them?) chooses combatdrugs as wargear, the drug change will not be added to his statline. The coding says to check the drugs and modify, but it does for the drugs and not the character using them. This will be hard to work around, as the freedom in the builder doesn't allow you to bind wargear to certain characters.

I've been working a bit around special rules and wargear changes. This has led me to make a new part in the builder.

The listmaker now consists of 2 (visible) tabs. One called "Armybuilder" and this has only got minor changes. The second is an all-new "Special Rule Refference". in short: if there is any special rule (unique to the dark eldar or global) that applies, you can find info on it in this thread. I have not been able to work out how to get long text to display on more then one row, so for some entries you will need to play with the column width to see everything.

    ***CHANGELOG***

    general changes:

  • I have removed the tabs "Unit Stats" and "Wargear". These are not interactive, and were only usefull to check out exact spelling for units or wargear. If you still want to check it out, you can right-click the bottom left corner (where the tabs are), go to "show" and choose the pages labled "Unit Stats" and "Wargear". Ofcourse, you can show everything else aswell, but the coding is still all hidden, locked and password protected.

  • Armybuilder Changes

  • Added a new set of wargear: Master Haemonculus. If you play with Urien Rakarth, you are allowed to upgrade your grotesques from S5 to S6 for 5 points per model. This is now represented byt the wargear (named after the special rule) Master Haemonculus. This gear is NOT restricted to if you have Urien Rakarth or not, so you will have to keep track of that yourself. Also, as with all other wargear, the changes are not implemented into the statline. This is like this because I have not found a way to bind wargear to a specific unit. Therefor, Excel does not know who you buy the wargear for.

  • Changed the statline for saves. Ordinary saves are still displayed as normal, but invulnerable saves are displayed as (X+*). This means the save value of: Y+ (X+*) is more then possible (infact, anything with a ghostplate armour gets it [4+(6+*)]!) The save field has been made wider to be able to show all the relevant values.

  • all wargear and special rules have been shortened. If they do any special stuff, there is a reference displayed under "notes". Powerweapons now say "Powerweapon" instead of "no armour save" in the notes column. If you need info on what a specific rule or gear does use the all new:

  • Speial Rule Refference

  • A quick Q and A sheet has been added. If any rule is unclear (like what exactly does a mindphase gauntlet do?) just enter the name of the rule or gear: "mindphase gauntlet", and you will get an instant answer.

  • This works for all special rules, including obvious stuff like independant, pistol, assault X, Powerweapon, invulnerable save, Hunter of Heads, Aerial Assault etc.

  • Known bugs

  • I'm making this upload with one known bug: The rules on the webway portal will not display. This is because of what I believe is a bug in excel itself, as there is no difference in the coding for this piece of wargear and every other (that works fine). This coding is even giving the correct values halfway through, but excel interprets them wrong and therefor refuses to give a proper answer. I will be working on fixing this soon enough.

  • Planned Changes

  • The plan on adding common "misspellings" on the names of units and wargear have been canceled. This builder is made by me and mainly for my own use. This is not intended to be commercial, yet I still share it. Therefore I will not make changes that do not effect me. If you are wondering over any spelling, just check out the wargear or unit tabs in the builder. More on how to find them under "General Changes".

  • I have a basic idea of how I can implement statchanges from wargear into the statlines of the units effected. This will be the next update, and it will be done in two steps. I however give you no timeline on when that is expected

  • I will try to fix the webway portal bug.

  • I will implement some more general rules into my reference. If this goes long enough I just might make a separate "rule-checker", and implement it into the builder. That, however, is very unsure and far in the future. I'm for one not sure it is ethically correct; two not sure if it is possible without violating copyright laws; three not sure if I am willing to put all that work into this project and four not sure it is properly useable as far as my current skills with excel go.

  • I'm thinking about adding Orks. This is because Orks is my secondary army, and I just might find I got the time on my hands and the use for it myself. That change would require you to specify what team you intend to make an army for, but that detail shouldn't be all to big of a hassle (atleast it shouldn't be a challenge I can't overcome! )

Until next time, keep enjoying and keep using!

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, and Penek. You have a very valid point. I have never used Wolflair, but I have heard of them. So I have no idea how they built their builders.

With this newest update, I have gone a bit away from what you advised me to do. This is more specific then ever. However, I do not in any way encourage people to skip buying the codex and play by only this instead. I believe this is a compliment to the codex, not a replacement for it. I find it is very hard to get a strategic overview in this codex, the same way it is very hard to get a point-allocation overview in the codex.

I in no way condole of not buying the official GW litterature!

However, this armybuilder is built mainly for my own use. It is not meant to be commercially distributed, and the impact it has (as seen by the amount of views in this thread) is limited at best. My only hope is it helps people quickly modify and check rules and lists.

Thank you for all your advice though, and I hope you keep giving it =)

Incredible! Yet ANOTHER update!? This is better then words!

    On a serious note:
I present, not entirely without a hint of pride,
    _________________________________________________

    *** THE SIXTH CHANGELOG ****
  • Alot of comments have been added throughout both the visible and hidden Army Builder. This makes the builder much more user friendly, as every cell is explained in a comment. This does not, however, interfere with the actual use of the army builder. I have added some known problems and solutions into these comments. This change makes the builder MUCH easier to learn to use and keep using!

  • A first resource page has been added. I have crunched the numbers for what vehicles has the highest expected damage output against MEQs and GEQs (if you are unsure on the abbreviation, there are explanations in the file). Point cost is taken into consideration and entries are arranged in two seperate toplists accordingly. More mathhammer will be added as I see it fit, but each small addition will not warrant an entire upgrade and republish.

  • The actual code is still hidden for every page (except the mathhammer resource), but comments have been added to explain how the code works. This is useful both to me (or any other coder!) working on the builder, or to anyone simply interested in learning the basics of how it works.

  • Some general rules have been added to the Special Rules Refference page. This include (but are not limited to) vehicle upgrades, weapon types, general special rules and some wargear that simply was missing.

  • Some minor and rare bugs have been fixed.

  • Some appearance tweaking has been done. Minor cosmetic changes.

  • Unused Points are now clearly and easily visible at the top of the Main Page.

  • A model count has been added to the top of the main page. This is to easily give you an overview if you have all the models required, or how many proxies you need to bring to your friendly neighbourhood game. This is a blunt count, as Voidraven Bombers and Kabalite Warriors are counted as one and the same: a single MODEL.

  • _________________________________________________

As always: Download, use and enjoy. If you have any questions feel free to either ask them here or PM me directly. The more questions asked, the better I can make the builder!

If you have any criticism it is more then welcome! I very much like to improve and make this tool easier to use.

If you wish to help me add or improve give me a hoot! This builder can easily be redone to fit any other race. If you wish to add a new team, give me a hoot and we can probably work it out!

    Changes to 1.7:

    _______________________________________________

    Resources added:

  • A comparison between the two offensive choices for Wych weapons has been added. This resource shows you when to choose what set of weapons.

  • A rather large set of tables have been added, showing what HQ choice ("Hunters") to buy, and how well (how many rounds of combat statistically needed to kill) enemy ICs or MCs. These charts range over all values for WS, T and W. They also include drugs and charges to a Soul-Trap. They can simply be modified to show what happens if the Character is assaulting or assaulted/locked in combat, and also show what happens if the character has 2 pain tokens (Furious Charge) or not.

  • Modified Coding

  • Haemonculus and Haemonculus Ancients now show a correct value for number of HQchoices. Up to three Haemonculus or Haemonculus Ancients (Or any mix thereof!) now only appear as a single HQ choice in the summary at the top of the main page. Naturally, these can be combined with a second type of HQ choice (like a named character, an Archon or a Succubus), and the summary will show a correct value (counting up to three Haemonculus as 1 choice, and the second character as a choice in himself). 4-6 Haemonculus count as 2 HQ choices.

  • Minor Tweeks

  • As stated in the comments (and clarified with examples!) all wargearand all characters are now in singular. There are no exceptions. Units are in plural; wargear, upgrades and characters are in singular. No matter what gear it is. (As stated in the document, even wargear that comes in pairs is written in singular. Like Chainflail, Klaive, Chain Snare, Improved Aeithersail etc.) This may be confusing at first, but it is made to keep a consistency throughout the builder.

  • Some unit stats have been incorrect. Faulty values have been corrected to now give correct information. If anyone spots more of this, please tell me!

  • Some minor visual improvements have been made

  • _______________________________________________

This is by far the best version of this tool to date. Each and every update has improved the builders quality and useability significantly, and this update is no exception. The resources added are great helping tools when planning your armylist. They help you build lists against general opponents as well as highly specialized ones. If you have any information about your opponent, the tools provided make it easier for you to put it to use!

    Use and enjoy!

Just changing the values of the builder to vaules of a different team is not too hard. The main problem I am facing right now is to find a way to include multiple teams in a single builder, without the teams scrambling and overlapping. If this goes on too long I will create an additional builder (with other resources added to ym capabilities as I go along) and add it on here. Glad you like it (:

I have awaken from my long slumber, and with me I bring updates!

    *** CHANGELOG 1.09 ***

    Army builder changes

  • The entry for Harlequins (and Death Jesters, Shadowseers, and Troupe Masters) was showed incorrect values. These values have been fixed. Shuriken Pistols are stronger than what is showed in older versions of this builder!

  • Some wargear was misspelled in the wargear section. The wargear that was misspelled has been remade to match the entry in the Codex, making kitting your units to the teath easier.

  • General Useability

  • Three of the hidden sections have had HUGE improvements for useability. The hidden tabs of Unit Stats, Wargear and Special Rules are now in table form. They are set in alphabetical order as standard, but if you wish to sort them in reverse alphabetical, sort by weapon range, or sort by toughness, this is all possible and very simple! Need to know what weapon has the highest Strength value? Easy! What unit has the most Attacks? Done. Or keep them in alphabetical and just find how that damn special rule is spelled...

  • However, to be able to do this you need to unlock the pages you want to sort. As in earlier versions there are comments explaining every page along the top. In the top-left cell of the pages that are unlockable the password to that page is now printed as a comment. The pages are however locked as standard, to prevent anyone from accidently deleting data. The standard password for these pages is "1234".

    Cosmetics

  • A few irritating type-O's in the descriptions of wargear and special rules have been fixed. This has no direct impact on the armybuilder, but it does make me feel alot better about myself. Both when using and distributing this!

  • Some VERY minor cosmetic adjustments have been made to the main page of the builder.

  • The default loading page has been set to the main page. No more scaring off first time users!

  • For next update

  • Splinter Pistols are not included in this builder. This is because no unit can opt to have a splinterpistol instead of another piece of wargear. However, all units that have a splinter pistol by default have the value from the splinterpistol in their stats (just like any other unit with a default range weapon) (As pointed out by user Rav3style, Thank you!). On the other hand, some units may choose to discard their standard wargear and instead sport a Splinter Pistol and Close Combat Weapon for free. This entry does not exist either. It will be added as a piece of wargear with the ranged stats of a splinterpistol and the +1 A from having a pistol in CC.

  • No other pistols have the +1a modifier from having a pistol in CC. This will be added to all pistols, as there is no weapon in the Dark Eldar armory that will not benefit from this bonus.

  • ______________

If you find any bugs or errors, or have any ideas for improvements, don't hesitate to contact me!

As always. Feel free to use and distribute freely. It would be a great honor if I met somone playing dark eldar and using this in the field!

Don't forget to use this as a compliment to the Codex, it is not a replacement!

    As promised: the new update.

    *** Changelog 1.10 ***

  • Splinter Pistol and Close Combat Weapon have been added to Wargear.

  • Blasters now show the correct range (18").

  • The syntax in the builder is now the same as in the codex. No entry should have a different name in the builder than it does in the Dark Eldar Codex. If something still doesn't work the way you want it to you can still peek around the lists of data to see why it isn't working.

  • No pistols have the modifier A+1, as was inteded for this update. Instead, if you look up "pistol" in the Special Rule Reference, you will there find that pistols count as an additional close combat weapon, and therefor grant it's bearer a A+1.

  • Since the syntax has changed so has the description for using the builder. Everything should be easy to learn for new users.

  • Enjoy! There are no mispellinges left to my knowledge. But keep your eyes pealed! If you find any, don't hesitate to contact me over mail (carl.hagander@gmail.com) or PM, or by replying to this thread! This could very well be the final version of the Dark Eldar builder. next step will probably be to add other teams. No timeplan given.

"Kabalite Trueborns", with the s at the end, should give you the right result.

Now I see that the Codex entry is without the s, so I will find and fix it as soon as possible. Found some other minor tweaks to fix as well, and am planning on adding a new resource. Update will be uploaded as soon as it is completed (some complex coding to take care of as well ), but until then youll just have to make do!

    Glad you like it! (:

What is the correct spelling for Chain Snares?

Just as in the codex: Chain-Snares

If for some reason the !¤"¤% builder just won't work: Take a look at either the Wargear tab or Unit Stats tab.

These tabs can be found at the bottom of the page. There are a bunch of resources, a special rule refference and the main page. If you right-click you can make these tabs un-hidden. There everything is entered, in alphabetical order.

Ok, I was just wondering about them.
