It also includes some pretty big sellers, like Hive Guard and Broadside Battlesuits. The latter especially is an army staple; those wouldn't be going direct only as they sell too well. (I'm sure there are more examples of this, but I'm lazy).

Well, the people I speak to each week keep attatching this comment to emails:

WHILE SUPPLIES LAST METAL: I spoke with most of you in the last few weeks about the repackaging and format change to all of our main range metal models including both boxes and blisters. Please do not restock any of the metal items further notice. If any of your customers comes in with a special order for any metal items, then we will try to fulfill that order while supplies last. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact me and I will to the best of my ability answer any questions you have. When more information is available we will let you know.

That's from Trade Sales. They have also said that their will be more info on the 16th of May. Until then, anything else is just redshirt talk. They get fired for leaking the truth.

There are a lot of items that aren't going to direct - They are unavailable completely. This is not just a repackaging or 'all goes to direct' deal. It's being handled differently, and affects every single code that has metal in it.

I'm not seeing anything in that email that says it's not going to be a direct only deal, but in new packaging (bags instead of blisters, etc). Do Trade Sales staff not get fired for leaking the truth? Whatever happens, I think we can all agree that it will only benefit GW and somehow we'll all be paying more.

I don't suppose you've got a box of Emperor's Children on the shelf looking for a good home?

Dont know much about that, but personally I find it frustating to pay huge shipping prices for direct only GWUK items and I dont intend to hunt down dozens of metals just because GW decided to make those unavailable... One thing is the rare limited edition mini that is kind of a pleasure to hunt down for your collection another completly diferent story is to do that to all the metals you need for your army.
As I said earlier I hope they have some nice alternatives for this because atm I'm not a happy bugger and I doubt I will enter the race to nail all the metals I need.

All this mess in comunicating with the fanbase and stores that supports them creates a bubble of frustation that will burst if they dont deliver something special to compensate the agravation... all could have been avoided.

At my local GW I bought up a Chaplain w Jump Pack, Mephiston and Astorath just in case, since I'm starting Blood Angels soon. Didn't want to have to wait in case I needed them. They also had a Dante, but the costs were climbing after this many, hopefully I won't need him right away, besides, how many named characters could I need?

All of the moulds have been shipped oversees and the models will be produced there, which will reduce production costs.

This is why production has been stopped in batches, not all of the moulds were shipped at once.

This is what happened to Forge World, all of the moulds were shipped to China, and FW models are produced there now as it is much cheaper. GW paints are also produced overseas now, although I don't believe paints were ever produced in house but always by a third party, but I believe they used to be produced in the UK.

Until GW releses an official statement, I'm going to go with this. It's far more believable and realistic.

And disappointing. For all the irritations of GW and their price rises and other nonsense at least you could say you were supporting a british company producing in the UK. Now they won't even be doing that.

To be fair to GW, they haven't really said anything regarding what is actually happenning apart from to say that there will be an announcement on 16th May. Any speculation which may have caused your 'bubble of frustration' has come about by people trying to second guess GW and people spreading unfounded rumours. As we all know, sometimes peoples wishlisting on forums such as this get misinterpreted and misquoted later down the line as possible rumours and even fact! We all know you cant believe everything that you read on the net, and if you are frustrated because GW hasn't released information sooner because of the amount time people have been speculating about a possible materials change etc, then it's your own fault and not theirs.

Whilst there's nothing wrong in discussing the announcement, GW have no obligation to anyone to change their plans just because people are either not willing or unable to wait until the planned date instead of getting annoyed at the constant cycle of speculation and rumours which flood the Internet.

I suggest if people are unable to take rumors and discussion for what it is, then they stop reading them until they can learn to separate reality and wishful thinking.

When GW announce what they are doing with regards to metal models/direct orders and model availability, then we'll have a definitive answer to what's going on and not before. If people want to discuss how much they love/hate it after that then they can to their hearts content.

I think you missed part of the posts on this thread... there are people here that have stores and have conections and are out of a clarification by GW to why they cant order more metals... This builts a obvious tension and frustation to store owners and GW clients in general and these I'm afraid are not net unfounded rumours

GW has no obligations apart delivering a product and providing a service and we are free to discuss if both are being delivered... In this case a reading of the facts on the table I can IMO post that the comunication is a bit non existant and its not par with the actions taken towards metals so far... That builts up a tension and as I said before it was all avoidable if the actions and the anouncements timmings were better planed.

Sure that on forums theres lots of speculations but thats not the full content of this thread and not the reason I say theres a bubble of frustation that will built up expectations in not a positive way.

Similar to Navarro's comments above, the issue (for me) is a lack of info from GW explaining the reasoning/strategy behind the recent removal of items available to order. Typically, one would expect an update PRIOR to the changes taking place, rather than after, to prevent rumors and such from generating negative feeback. The guys at my FLGS have expressed the same frustration and confusion noted by other in this thread...it has direct bearing on the store's income.

Aren't you several years late with this statement? GW just closed their China production and moved it back to UK, trying to forget the China adventure.

From the thread about the last financial report:
Kroothawk wrote:Some things hidden in the report:

The only Chinese factory will be closed and paint and resin operations go back to Nottingham. This still allows for external production in China like printing or large moulds (ROB).

Whether things were moved from Lenton to China or from China back to Lenton there's still going to be a considerable interruption in production.

Personally I think the relocation (no matter the direction) of production makes the most sense compared to a materials change and/or going to direct order only.

Steve, I really suggest if you need those models, that you grab them now. There are a lot of significant shortages from GW right now, and unavailable from Direct as well as Trade Sales. Little bits of orders are coming back in stock as they ship over from the UK. But this is a hell of a lot more than just metal going to direct.

I just talked to a guy at GW customer service (redshirt level possibly, I don't know) about an order I'd placed a couple weeks ago that was still delayed. He told me that things are delayed because they're shifting metal to direct-only, and that the longer-than-normal waits are due to shortages caused by panic buying in response to the rumours of no-more-metal. I don't know the truth behind these statements, but I was told that they had one guy order 72 Jokaeros, and another put in an order for over 20 broadsides, and that these sorts of overly large orders were what was impacting their ability to get back on time. He said originally they were scheduled to be back on track mid-may, but with the extra shortages, they're expecting to be back to normal around July.

Again, I'm not attempting to interpret this, just reporting what I was told when I called.

Well this is just getting ridiculous, why doesn't GW make a statement? I don't remember them being so obsessed with secrecy in the past (albeit I wasn't playing for a few years).

If there is no more metal then say so, if it's getting relocated then say that.

Maybe then people will stop making huge orders of random models.

@Turalon - given that, when asked, GW says they're backordered due to panic buying, does it make any sense for them to make an announcement and cause more panic buying?

From my talk with them, it's a move to make all (or almost all) metals direct only, and put more plastics on the shelves at their stores. I don't think the sky is falling. (In fact, I think I said that back on page three as well). I had just placed an order for some stuff, some of it metal. Most of it went out, but the monkeys were delayed because of whoever needed 72 of them - probably just to resell on ebay.

They are discontinuing every last special character for VC, King of Bretonnia, and all the Dwarf Slayers? This doens't make any sense *at all* unless they are going to resin or really are just repackaging. But I see a lot of armies that are going to be utterly incomplete if this really is what they are doing.
