That Noh figure looks cool. I'd have liked to get a bunch of the Oni from that range, but it never worked out.

I'm so getting that fething bear, though - Not sure about the Trollblood for a rider, though - since I'd want an Ogre or something riding it. Unless I bought two of them....

You're a bad influence, tamb. What with your lizardmen and your hordes and your warmachines.

Bad influence? I'm a positive for everyone man! Just guiding people toward the light!

There's one more Noh figure I don't have, and that's their giant dragon thing, the Dahon. Not too keen on cleaning all the pieces, regardless of how large they'd be (it's also on an 80mm base, but it includes a hill the thing is climbing all over and it sticks out in every direction).

I'd say if you want big bears to have ogres ride on, maybe check out Scibor's? They have some dwarfs on bears that look pretty massive- they all sit pretty comfortably on 50mm squares/ 60mm circles. Haven't got one yet myself, but I will one of these days, mark my words...

Also, Shieldwolf is supposed to have Amazons riding armored up war bears in their next Kickstarter starting next week...

I'm curious about your process. How many models do you work on at once? You always have a bunch of different models to show every time you post, oftentimes with no apparent relation to each other...

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

...process? There is only chaos. CHAOS.

I'll start something, and if it doesn't grab me right away, or I get bored of it halfway through, I'll tuck the model away and pull something else out.

Where do they go though?

I'm going to show you something no other eyes have laid eyes on.

One of my drawers of shame.

This is one of about 7 drawers of built figures I've got in my office. Other drawers have less ready to go figures, but they're in those as well. We won't talk about bits and unbuilt figures today. Bonus points if you can identify more than 5 models in that photo.

So when the mood strikes me, I'll yank a few pieces out of one of those drawers and get back to work on it. There's a lot of figures, and a lot of drawers, so there's always SOMETHING I can paint.

Or I'll dip into the built and unpainted boxes.

Or I'll start work on whatever my most recent acquisition is.

Like I said- CHAOS.

There is no rhyme or reason to what I paint other than what tickles my fancy at the moment.

Been a while since I painted any reptiles.

So I did.

This is an Avatars of War Saurian Thrall Mauler. He's a really big guy. He's on a 40mm base and sticks out in just about every direction. He's also very busy visually, with bumps, spines, horns, and spikes either growing off of him or strapped to him somewhere. I really like him!

A side/ rear view of him as he leads his lizard buddies on to glory. I think this pic really shows just how big he is. If ever there was a perfect model for an Oldblood, it's this guy. Just absolutely massive.

Those two lizardmen got painted up this weekend as well, but they're pretty ho-hum basic guys so I didn't bother trying to photograph them. Note their old school green bases I painted years ago (that was all that was painted actually- when I bought them, someone had primed them light blue which I just didn't care for, but didn't bother doing anything with for a good 3 or 4 years).

Here's the guy lurking in the background, from the Shadowsea line by Antimatter Games, a Ridgeback Spine Breaker.

Not the greatest picture unfortunately. He's also a head or two taller than the average lizardman saurus.

I'm hoping to make some progress through my reptilian backlog over the next few weeks.

I'm also going to have to do a bit of culling of my collection. There's just way too much stuff in my house due to my haphazard collecting. Let the hemorrhaging begin!

How quickly this week went!

I haven't had much time for hobbying, as I went a bit wild on ebay selling stuff and trying to clean things up, and every time I'd have a moment to spare I was busy packing things up.

At the very least I've got plenty of funds to waste on more Kickstarters now.

What I did paint was a bunch of random stuff... as usual.

I know I posted this guy the other day, but I've been working diligently on him all week.... and the picture looks exactly the same. Ugh.

Frustrating, as I've been layering lots of greens and blues to get him to a point I'm happy with.

One of my favorite things about the Antimatter lines (Shadowsea and Deep Wars) is they all have unique base inserts. Some are more elaborate than others, but every single figure, big or small, has one.

I also got to work on a few random Chronopia figures I've had sitting around.

This is a Stygian something or other. A snake? Guardian? I don't recall, and I don't have the books handy, what with being at work before school starts. He was a mess when I got him. He still is, come to think of it. Obviously he isn't done. His head doesn't actually fit on the body, and I had to do all sorts of filing and there's still gaps (that I was too lazy to fill for such an old and inexpensive figure). Head looks too large for the body. Did him in red like all my other snakes.

Had to give him a new set of lower hands because one was broken and the other was missing, so he ended up with some Saurus hands which fit perfectly.

This is my dwarf. There are many like him, but this one is mine. Can't recall what he's supposed to be...

I also did some Mantic stuff.

Started working on some Abyssal Dwarfs I had... It's interesting to note the guy on the right has a very similar stilt and power system to the Helfather from Deadzone. Very similar armor design too. Makes me wonder if the Abyssal Lord was what they used as a base for sculpting. Hmm...

The half breed centaur guy needs some serious gap filling, but I just don't have the heart to mess with green stuff when it's really cold in my office.

I also painted an Enforcer Peace Keeper. Why? Beats me. I think he looks decent. Will probably start paitning and building the rest of my Enforcers now that I have a color I'm satisfied with.

My god, you painted a sci fi figure in power armor with a gun!

I can see the differences on the Shadow Sea lizard. He's looking really good. I didn't bother putting all that much effort into my lone Deepwars lizard.

That Abyssal Lord looks surprisingly good too. I don't like much of that line, but he's a nice looking one. Is he wearing a full face helmet, or is his face exposed?

@Miguel- thanks for the clarification on the Stygian. No Firstborn unfortunately. Been sniped on eBay for every one I've wanted...

No thanks to Azazelx and his painting challenge, I succumbed to the painting bug this past 3 day weekend and finally finished the 3 Carnosaurs I've had sitting around.

Making progress on my second hand Saurus

Started trying to finish my Stegadon. The dino itself is done (outside of needing some shading on his top half), but I have no clue how his howdah goes together. Any idea where I can see the directions? I bought him out of the consignment case a long time ago, and he was in HORRIBLE shape. I could never get the horrible, gravely primer off of him, so I just tried to work him up from what he was. I should get some closeups later.

I also managed to finish up two Confrontation Orcs, a pet cobra from Wargods of Aegyptus, and started in on a Salamander proxy (a Shadowsea Lava Lizard)

Did a random Skaven too, and started painting this random 99 cent post apocalyptic guy from a line I'm not familiar with. Actually I started up on a few Skaven, they just weren't handy when I had my phone in hand.

So I've been really craving a Skarbrand model. Unfortunately once I get my head set on an idea, it won't let go until I follow through. Since I've sold a fair amount of stuff on eBay this past month, I decided to treat myself to one (nevermind the Start Collecting: Khorne dameons I bought). In a moment of stupidity, since the kit was on auction and I was afraid I would lose, despite how badly I wanted one, I found a kit available with a make an offer. I offered a ridiculous lowball number, on a whim, but the guy actually accepted it.

So now I'm going to have two Skarbrand models coming.

Not wanting to surprise my wife, I went in full disclosure mode and explained what happened, letting her know I ended pu getting it a lot cheaper and that I'd put the extra model back on eBay for a bit more than I paid for it, so I'd make a bit of a profit off my mistake. It was an odd reaction, seeing her pissed but happy at the same time. Reminded me of one of those Larry David .gifs.

So here are some non- January painting challenge models I worked on this weekend.

I actually was still doing lizards- I was working on some incorrectly built ripperdactyls or whatever they're called I purchase some time ago from the hobby shop's consignment case. They've got the wrong riders for the type of unit they're supposed to be. To further complicate matters, they don't want to take any orange paint, which is the color I wanted them to be!

Also got bases all nice and gravely, so I'll be painting those up as well as finalizing my Stegadon's rider chocies, as GW finally sent me the instructions for it a week later.

I've pretty finished much finished my Stygian Guardian from Chronopia.

I got a half price Skarr Bloodwrath on Saturday, which is a price I was more than happy to purchase his murder flailaxe weapons at.

I ended up giving him more of a Beastman paint scheme. Didn't Khorne used to have his own Beastmen anyways?

Here's a semi- Beastman looking Skullreaper. I ended up giving him a tail and too much armor, and probably too many of the escorcelled weapons as well.

This Stormcast Prosecutor is the result of having leftover paint from all the lizard stuff I was working on.

Here's that same Stormcast hanging out with a Reaper Balor from their Bones line, who was started upon receiving the Kickstarter 2 package and left alone for months after that. He's just about done now though. Still need to do the base obviously.

A group shot of the guys from this weekend.

After painting that Bloodwrath guy, I really like him and his ridiculous flails. Hell, I'd be grabbing a lot more GW heroes if they were more reasonably priced.

I'll have to finish that Stegadon tonight and post my finished Lizard units for January in the other topic, and then I think it's on to Khorne daemons... and possibly Tau!

He tells me he is going to be making at least one KOW army. As an added bonus, we discovered a local gaming league that plaus KOW that meets pretty much across the street from our FLGS. Hopefully he'll actually put something together so I can steal his list later.

Ha... like I know any more about building a KoW army?

I think a lot of it depends on the point value. Hopefully we can both go check out this local league, and hopefully it isn't full of the more colorful types that frequent our local shops.

In other news I've spent the last week trying to get these damned Terradons to take paint. Primed 'em and have had to put multiple coats on and they still aren't at a level I'd like.

I'm debating whether to put red or blue stripes on their wings.

I think it's taken about 5 or 6 coats now, at least.

Also finally got around to finishing that Yu Jin Crane Officer.

Satisfied with it. It came out decent. I want to try that new Hac Tao hacker though. I like that guy's design. Still need to finish that PanO Aquila guard I have half finished.

Also got my Stegadon all finished up now. Just need to figure out where I put the crew!

Other than the missing crew, sucker is FINISHED. Had that thing for a LOOOOOOONG time sitting around with the horrible priming job that was inflicted upon it. Some day I may get another to build in one of the other variations. No rush though.

Started up on my February projects, as my January ones are just about complete. Next month- DAEMONS and Tau! What the hell happened that has caused me to pick up so much GW product recently? No idea.

Nah, I blame it on the local store offering a pretty nice chunk off GW stuff, plus store credit making those new start collecting boxes a pretty sweet deal.

Plus I think I'm reconnecting with my younger self and getting a bunch of models I liked but never had the money for- mainly Tau and Daemons. They were never really financially within my grasp in my younger days, or I was busy plumbing record bins for old punk vinyl to hoard or going hog wild on Hobbylink Japan with the advent of the Internet.

Coincidentally the old punk vinyl helped pay for my wedding and wife's rings, while the models just ended up collecting dust in various locations to this day.

I know it's not February, and I haven't finalized what I want to do with those Terradons in terms of striping (I also am not sure where their riders are), I decided to just take the plunge and start working on Skarbrand.

Sick of seeing him in pieces waiting to get painted and put together. I'm a stickler for having every surface covered in paint before I glue it down. I can't stand having unpainted stuff underneath pieces where you can see the parts below.

I know I was bad about not cleaning up the gaps between pieces. Too impatient. Bad picture once again undersells the fact that I tried to actually do some layering in his skin tones.

I really am a fan of the model. Not a fan of the price tag however- for nearly double the price of my Boneripper figure, I get something of comparable size. Actually I think the basic Bloodthirster is bigger than Skarbrand, due to them leaping in the air and having completely whole wings. Now if they'd included all the basic Bloodthirster sprues in the box, I could see them justifying the 130 dollars they want for him. Thankfully I didn't pay anything close to that, but irregardless... a Tau Storm Surge would cost a comparable price, and that's quite a large kit.

Might need to get one of those just to compare them.

Skarbrand doesn't seem quite as big as I was expecting him to be. He'll still probably make a good centerpiece for your demon army. Too costly for me though. If I go through with a demon army, I'll have to use a Bones figure for my Abyssal Fiend.

I still say you need to get a goat for your son. Stonehaven makes one. It'd be a good excuse to make a Stonehaven order.

Made in us

California the Southern

No, he really isn't as big as I had hoped or expected. Not to say he's tiny or anything, but the price really does not reflect the size of the model. It's even more apparent when you consider all the leftover bits on the sprue, and the lack of the additional Bloodthirster wings and optional bits that would have justified the price a bit more. At that point I wouldn't have minded the actual cost, as I'd have pretty much everything outside of an extra torso for another Bloodthirster, but I am certainly glad I got it for almost the same price as my Boneripper (who I also didn't pay anything close to MSRP on).

I'll see about getting the kid a goat. It's not like I don't have painted Beastmen laying around. I was trying to talk him into some minotaurs, but he wouldn't take the bait. I'll probably start scoping eBay for some cheap gor models. Maybe I'll get around to painting that Avatars of War Beastman Lord I have. He also wants me to get one of those Forgefiends and a Heldrake.

Running a demon army, I'm thinking of using lots of big stuff. Counts- as Molochs and the like. I like the idea of big stuff being supported by a few units of little shooty guys, or just as a screen before the big stuff comes steamrolling along.

More than likely though, I'd start with a Salamander army. Going to need to borrow your Uncharted Empires book though!

Did you get my email about the hobby shop paper? Do you think you can pick it up next time you're there?

Work has continued on Skarbrand.

In his travels through the Realms of Chaos, it seems he developed something of a sense of moral decency and has decided to grace us with a pair of pants.

He also decided to grow a head and wings it seems since the last time we saw him.

He is accompanied by a Balor model from the last Bones Kickstarter campaign, which cost me around 20 bucks and also came with a "Demon Prince" that was awfully similar to the description of Orcus back in the old D&D books.

It just floors me how GW can charge so much for so little. It's a very cool model, and I'm really enjoying painting him- have most of his other armor pieces finished in fact, just need to glue them, and contrary to the photos I took, I have started working on all the tatters of his wings... but damn. The price. THE PRICE. Hell, I think the basic Bloodthirster kit is actually bigger than him.

Maybe it's all part of some crazy pay to win scheme for Age of Sigmar? He's got crazy stats for that game. Hell, if I ever try playing it, I've got a pretty prestigious Chaos warband I can play at this point....

I should have stuck a basic infantry figure in there to give a sense of scale. Both these dudes are quite large. Skarbrand is on a 100mm base I believe. Maybe 80, but pretty sure it's 100.
