Khorne Chosen Marine Riding a Juggernaut
Breaking Something Valuable
|
I've been building my Chaos marine forces (taking a hiatus from playing) so I've been tossing around some army lists. Here's what I cane up with using what I have, and some chosen...
Kharn- 165
5 Chosen, 5 Meltaguns- 140
5 Chosen, 5 flamers- 115
5 Chosen, 5 flamers- 115
8 berzerkers, rhino- 203
10 CSM, 2 meltas, Rhino- 205
10 CSM, 2 meltas, Rhino- 205
Vindicator- 125
Vindicator- 125
So, how d'you like it?

Well it is certainly different. I would say the chosen will make things interesting; however, I would be pressed to find points for Rhinos for them (Probably drop one squad of chosen to afford rides for the other 2).
I would also think about either some Obliterators or Predators for support as you're goin to need some ranged shooting to pop open transports for your assault elements. Vindicators are awesome but they make me nervous around assault oriented units.

Agree with above; lose a Chosen Squad and get Rhinos for the other two.

Interesting list. Comes out to 1398 by my count, so you've got another 102pts to work with.
How about:
Kharn- 165
5 Chosen, 3 Meltaguns, 2 flamers, Rhino w/combi-melta- 175
5 Chosen, 3 Meltaguns, 2 flamers, Rhino w/combi-melta- 175
8 berzerkers, champ w/fist, Rhino- 243
10 CSM, 2 meltas, champ w/fist, Rhino- 245
10 CSM, 2 meltas, champ w/fist, Rhino- 245
Vindicator- 125
Vindicator- 125
1498
All the bigger units are better in assault, now. Only two units of Chosen, but they're flexible and able to handle any kind of target. The Rhinos also give them much greater threat radius from the table edge. The Rhinos themselves can also pop a tank if they drive on no more than 6".
When I used to run Chosen like this I actually went three flamers, two meltas, but I was using Lash of Submission to get extra mileage out of the flamer templates. I also had oblits and/or Havocs for some more long-range antitank. I went with more meltas for you as I think you need a little more reliable tank-popping.

Hmm... guess I messed up in my math, but in a good way for once!
Ah! Just realized what I was missing: 5 raptors with 2 meltaguns. Sound good?
@Mannahnin- I dislike mixing for versatillity- My chosen serve one purpose, and serve it well. I will try to find points for rhinos, though. It comes up to 105, I'd be 3 points over...
@ Unholy: Like the vindi's, as I own them, but Oblits hold a certain lure for me; I'll certainly consider them. Also, I've always thought that predators were kinda weak, to be honest.
So it looks like I'll just buy some rhinos for extra transportation. If I sub out the 2 vindis for 3 oblits, I can get a combi weapon on two of them, or choas glory banners on the CSM squads.

I wouldn't recommend kharn in any of the lists above. Youll get more mileage out of a lash prince or a daemon prince in general. Not to mention youll save points and wont kill your own zerkers. kharn with a squad of zerkers will destroy whatever they touch. GOOD. but then then'll be sitting in the wind with their dicks out for shooting.

Hm. I really enjoy kharn, and they wreck things, and I can split kharn up from them, so that aviods some killing.
Daemon princes are great, but I don't have one yet, and I do have kharn. I could always reduce the zerker squad to make it less killy...

Oh don't get me wrong I love kharn to, nothings as killy as he is. Which is the point
In a perfect world you win combat on your opponents assault phase. Kharn just wins combat. Always.
plus a dprince has some versatility (depending on your build) and has a 18" threat zone.

Actually, with only seven attacks, that's the max he will kill (and usually that number), so he often finishes up in the second phase, which works for me.
Don't get me wrong, I know DP's are better, love them, just don't have the models. Really, they are my favorite unit in the codex, yet I like to try things different. Lords, Kharn, and Fabius Bile are the alternates I use.
It would be cheaper, though, as would dropping down the zerker squad.

My thoughts exactly. I have the models to supply this list, and a cool looking custom kharn. Why not showcase them? And if this list works, it's good.
Back to my origional question- do 5 rapotors with 2 meltaguns sound good? Or just take oblits?

No raptors are too pricey. and with 5 guys theyll die on 3+ saves to massed amounts of bolter fire.
Obis are more expensive but more durable and will give you extra options and versatility

Not a big fan of raptors.
I think the vindicators complement your horde of Rhinos a bit better than Oblits would, but Oblits are always nice for the option of going either long-range lascannon or deep-strike TL melta. If you're taking the Oblits, though, you want to work in some Icons for them to home in on if the situation calls for deep striking.

Well, since I forgot the rapotrs at first, I can make some upgrades and either keep vindis, or switch them out for oblits. Which do you think would work best with this list? 'Cause while vindis are nice, they are a threat to my assault troops.
As for switching out for Daemon princes, who knows what suprises christmas brings?

Either vindis or oblits are better than Raptors.
Raptors are really only worthwhile once you've completely filled your HQ, HS and Troops; and maybe your Elites too.
