Hello,

After searching the entire subforum for flames of war I found there were only 14 or so responses for "battle report". So I've decided to create this thread. It's all fine and well linking new lists, but I need more! I need battle reports!

Please use this thread to post your battle reports for your Flames of war divisions. Don't worry about doing picture's (there a nice touch mind you and they break up walls of text brilliantly! ) or about posting a huge amount of text. I just feel it will be interesting seeing peoples battle reports.

I personally will be posting a very small battle report shortly from a 500 point (ish) skirmish playing a "Capture the Hill" esque game i had with my brother.

EDIT: Oh, i completely forgot about other media - please don't hesitate to link to you-tube / embed your own FOW Battle reports!

Right ze' small battle!

Historically Correct: No - (not a themed battle, just for giggles)
Points Limit: 500
Sides: British Vs Germans

Scenario: "Capture the hill" - Your main force is moving along a well used supply route, your reccie platoons have reported seeing a small German force moving towards a hill, aerial photo's show that this is a spotting team for a large artillery division, supported by some armour, If the Germans hold the hill, they will have a clear field of vision to accurately spot for the artillery. They must not hold that hill!

Objectives: German - Hold the Hill with infantry for three turns
British - Destroy the spotting team before they call down a Strike on your main force

Turn Limit: 8 Turns

Scenario special rules: Elevated position - Team's firing from or at a team on the hill are at +1 to Hit (Eg: Shooting at a veteran squad on the top of the hill within 16", you need a 3+, not 4+.)

Terrain / Board: 5X3 board, and only One hill.

That's all for now: I will add in the turns after the game.

Deployment & Terrain

5x3 board, only one hill, 6" deployment zone at each end of the board.

(This battle report is from the Germans POV)

The British won the deployment roll, there general immediately deployed the rifle platoon in the centre of his deployment zone.
The German general deployed his assault gun platoon to the right hand side of his deployment zone.
The Brits deployed his Tank squad to the left of the Deployment zone with the German's Deploying his Panzer-grenadier Platoon in the centre of his deployment.

Both sides rolled off to see whom went first with the Brits having +1 to there roll for finishing deploying first, the Germans snatched the roll scoring Five to the Brits 3+1.

The First Turn

Movement Step

Germans
The Panzer-grenadier platoon moved at the double, hell bent on reaching the objective early and digging in to call down a artillery strike as soon as possible, the Stug's rolled forward setting up in a Ambush position behind the hill.

British
The British forces all moved quickly and quietly towards the hill, not knowing is the Germans had seen or heard them approaching.

The Second Turn

The German Captain motioned for his platoon to get to the top of the hill & start radioing in co-ords to the Hummels back at the camp, the Platoon moved at the double to reach there goal, as they crested the hill the soldiers shouted at the StuG Crews to prepare for armour, whom had gone to ground to get ready to Ambush any armour comming around the hill. The Germans had been spotted and have met an Armoured company, three huge Cromwell tanks, backed by a firefly tank-hunter were rolling towards them, backed by a rifle company to boot.

Before the Germans could even think about digging there foxholes the British forces opened fire, forcing all the Germans on the hill to hit the deck to avoid serious casualty's, intermittent pinning rifle fire was then drowned out by the roar of the co-axle and hull mounted machine guns from the British armour finding there mark on the squad. When the dust cleared body's were everywhere. wounded, dead and deing, the survivors saw the carnage brought upon then and instead of fleeing answered with there own Machine gun fire, felling several British soldiers before they got into cover.

German Movement Step

The Panzergrenadiers Move to the top of the hill, and set-up a perimeter Awaiting the Shooting step. The StuG's having angled themselves to ambush in the previous movement step, go to ground.

German Shooting Step

No shooting (Moving at the double, Gone to ground)

British Movement Step
The British forces move to the base of the hill, tanks backed by infantry.

British Shooting Step
The Rifle team Opens fire, Hitting two teams and killing another.
The Cromwell's & Firefly Open up with eight machine guns, Hitting the whole platoon twice over and Killing four teams.
The Germans are Pinned after being Hit more then 5 Times & Take a Motivation test Due to suffering more then 50% casualty's & pass

Objective - in German Hands for One out of Three turns.

German Turn Three

The German captain atop the hill, takes in the carnage and looks to his sole surviving team, they all look at each other though the smoke & body's. Looks of grim determination settle over them all, they all rise from there cover made of there fallen comrades and unclasp there spades from there back-packs....

All the surviving German foot soldiers dig in faster than they ever have before. Hastily dug foxholes were finished, with makeshift cover made from nearby corpses to lessen the amount needed to be dug. Bloodstained and sweating the Germans awaited the deafening sound of the British guns only to hear the sound of the StuG's engines roaring to life as they sped to get there main-guns in line of sight of the British Armour to support the devastated infantry platoon

The StuG's Storm into position and open fire on the vulnerable side armour of the lead Cromwell, unfortunately in the haste to assist the infantry the crew forgot to activate the Stug's targeting stabilisers, and the shots missed!

Germans Starting Step
The German Panzer-grenadier platoon Passes its motivation test to be un-pinned.

Germans Movement Step
The infantry Dug in, Gaining concealment & Bulletproof cover, while the StuG's Moved around the hill partially to get a target on a Cromwell's Side armour.

Germans Shooting Step
The Stugs open up with a reduced ROF due to moving and Miss with both shots.

Objective - Germans hold the hill for two Turns out of Three

British Turn Three

The British, seeing the German infantry start to dig in Raced up the hill and fired round after round at the Germans. The German captain seeing the advancing troops Ordered his men to hit the deck, the soldiers who had fallen had one last grizzly dirty to perform, as the order was given when the foxholes were completed the corpses were used quite effectively to halt incoming fire, but not the Incoming charge. Dust, smoke and screams could be seen an heard from the top of the hill....

The tank commander having just witnessed a shell come rather too close to his lead tank barked into the radio "Right lad's! We got some armour to fight, get us around that hill now!" The Cromwell's & Firefly juddered into life as they sped off around the hill, catching the StuGs completely by surprise and outflanking them. The Firefly commander relayed to his loader & gunner "German Stug's! mark Four's! Load HEAT rounds and fire on that side armour!" the crescendo of the firing main gun blocked out the noise of the Cromwell's following suit. smoke settled on the battlefield....

British Movement Step
The Rifle platoon Raced up the hill, while the Tank squad moved out and around the hill, outflanking the German Stugs.

British Shooting Step
The Rifle platoon Opened up with there Mortar & PIAT bazooka Along with there rifles, They score five hits on the Germans, but lack the Fire-power to blast the Cover away. - result = German Infantry Pinned.

The Tanks Opened up with there mains guns against the stug's, Blasting apart one and forcing the crew to bail out on the other.

British Assault Step
The Rifle Platoon Is missed by the Germans Defensive fire and utterly destroys the Germans in assault.

The Germans are Wiped out!

Objective Completed by the British!

I hope you Enjoyed this battle report. because I enjoyed playing the game. but writing this up was murder lol
