Does anybody have any good ideas in which to justify chimerias in an infantry heavy IG list? (1500 points)

Toughness 3 and a 5+ armor save? AV 12 looks mighty nice wrapping that tender cargo.

Well if your running a foot list than Chimmys would defeat the purpose, correct? I wouldnt want to take only 1 or 2 as theey would made into swiss cheese. Mind posting your list?

They work well with PCS armed with flamers and are a cheapish way to deliver melta squads into the fight
Foot PIS though probably dont need them

Fire points? Cheap? AV12? Multilaser? Cheap?
Honestly, if you can't see the value in that I'm not sure you'd gain anything from reading these posts.

Good way to expand your command squad's order range... And increase it's survival rate a bit... Extra weapons are always good too... I usually run this and a Vet Squad in Chimeras in my "foot" lists

chimerae can be put in foot list, but they act as support units. Like a pair of hydras, a chimera full of plasma vets provides some AV12, and some S7 attacks. The difference is that the vets will be right up there advancing with your troops (well, and AP2), while the hydras are probably going to hang back and let your infantry twist if something bad comes their way.

Chimeras are excellent for sitting back as mobile command units also, protecting any high end characters (like creed) from the weather, as well as protecting advisors and expanding your order range slightly. Personally I believe an All infantry armour needs at least 2 chimeras for a delivery system, otherwise your going to get raped in the ass by fast movers and pie plates.
Never have I seen such beautiful tactics as to move a 3 imperial guardsmen power blob up along with a Chimera with a heavy flamer, hull heavy flamer, and a PCS with heavy flamer and 3 flamers in it. 3 heavy flamers and 3 flamers absolutely toast anything infantry, the blob can finish of practically any other unit with melta, powersword, manpower and guardsmanship!

Can't say I agree with this. Why have you got two h. flamers on the Chimera? If you want to move (which you will, as your toting template weapons/ a flamer PCS) you'll only be able to shoot one of them so the second one only really serves as redundancy should it suffer a w. destroyed result. H. flamers in a PCS cost 400% more than a normal flamer, if you can justify that kind of expense for the purpose of +1S then you've got more points in your pool than I do.
To the OP: What kind of infantry heavy IG list? Power blobs? HW blobs? Lots of small individual PIS? Veterans? Minumum platoons w/ maxed HWS/ SWS? There are lots of ways to run infantry IG. A little more input would go a long way to helping us help you.

I plan to have
15 squads of infantry/3 vox casters 15 grendae launchers
3 commisars
3 platoon ccs
1 company command squad
The list isn't done yet but I hope you can help me a little bit if I should just replace chimeras with tanks and other heavy support options.

well yee-friggin-haw. Replace all those grenade launchers with plasma guns, and you'll be good to go.
As for chimera or tanks, it really just depends on what you want. I've done infantry horde with tanks before and while I haven't actually done infantry horde with mechanized, I don't deny its hypothetical efficacy.
It really just depends on if you'd rather have more, fragile units doing more damage, or fewer, tougher units putting out damage for longer.
