I know space marines and IG can take allies from the demon hunters and witch hunters codex. My question is can the variant Marine codexes like Blood Angels and Space Wolves can take the allies?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Nevermind. I found it in the rule book. I should just look there first.

Also it should be worth mentioning that I have read through various threads (and verified by looking them up) saying that the most current codicies for DeamonHunters and the Witch Hunters have no rules for allies in them.

So technically you cant even do that anymore, although I have heard people also suggest that if you have the physical copy of the codex your fine.

Actually GW said the latter. If you have the physical codex you can still use the allied rules contained therein.

Which leaves it up to your opponent's consent.

IME most tournament rules say that the most recent versions of each codex must be used. Which would rule out the versions with allies, in the case of WH & DH.

Except as has already been posted, GW said that the online downloads do not replace or supercede the physical codex. If you have it, you can still use it, per GW.

With all respect and love, Don, please cite a current source for that statement.

AFAIK the only place they did so was for this year's ard boys, in which they allowed people who had the physical codices to still use their allies.

I don't think the Throne of Skulls or (for example) the Adepticon rules make special allowance for people who own the physical books. IIRC they just require the most recent version of the codex, which will keep things consistent for newer players and those who own the printed version, albeit at the sad cost of allies.

The other point that seems to be causing the most confusion is whether or not the PDF versions supersede the printed versions. They don't: you should feel free to continue to use whatever resources you have available to play your games with; the PDF does not overrule or invalidate the printed Codex book. Yes, this may mean that you and your opponent are using what are essentially different army lists for the same army but not every Inquisition force will comprise of the same elements (highly specialised and secretive forces that they are).

Good enough for ya?

That works, thanks!

We recently made the Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters codexes available to download as PDFs. Since then, we've received a spate of emails asking questions about the difference between the PDFs and the original, printed copies. Rather than reply to you all individually, I thought I'd try to answer your questions here. Firstly, the rules for allied Space Marines and Inducted Imperial Guard were originally written to reference books that have since gone out of print, so we streamlined the rules required to allow players to collect an army of Daemonhunters or Witch Hunters. The Daemonhunters army list uses the Standard Force Organisation chart, which you'll find on page 87 of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. And if you'd rather use the same one as your opponent, why not simply decide which version you collectively want to use and share the rules between one another? As for tournaments and gaming events, it's entirely up to the organisers to decide which version to use; it is after all their event.
