Lord Commander Ardanuis

The Solarian Guard is the more common name for the unit of 20 Sanguinary Guard hand chosen by Sanguinius for the final assault on Horus’ battlebarge. The 12 survivors lead a crusade across the Segmentum Solar against the broken Chaos renegades, however, during a large space-conflict with a Death Guard remnant fleet, the Final Release, the flagship of the Solarian Guard, was cast into the Warp and emerged in a then-unknown region of space, now recognised as the Halo Stars.

Cast adrift, low power, no weapons or shields, the Solarian Guard reluctantly agreed to enter stasis until they could be rescued. Two more Solarian Guard died from the strain of prolonged stasis. When their vessel was ransacked by Ork pirates, they were inadvertedly awoken by curious Gretchen. Slaughtering the Orks and leaching their Kroozer’s power to re-awaken the Final Release, they began their slow trek back to Terra. During the next two centuries, eight more Solarian Guard were slain in the heat of battle. Lord Commander Ardnaius is now the Last of the Solarian Guard, wielding his weapon, Bloodhammer forged in the heart of a dwarf star, of which thousands of souls have perished at it’s head. However, Ardanius has never spoken of the events of the Final Release, nor has he spoken to any bar the Solarian Guard since his release from stasis. Or of what happened during the millennia beyond the Halo Stars…

Guzzbag revved the engine of his Trukk over the limit, his heavy boot slamming the already strained engine even harder. Three hundred meters to the ‘umie lines. To his left, Blitza roared the ‘uge Shoota into life, punching an anomalous Grot off the bonnet into the dusty clouds. Two hundred meters. Da Boyz in the rear sang and roared their delight of the joy of the expected carnage, exaggerated by the presence of several barrels of fungus beer. The ‘umie lines were now in sight: Guzzbag could see them panicking in their trenches.

One hundred meters…

Guzzbag noticed a small whinning in his hearing, a barely noticeable buzz that slowly grew louder in volume and deeper in pitch. He looked around: Blitza was passed out of inebriation, slumped over the ‘uge Shoota reeking of “alkaholl”. His boyz were still singing in the back, yet the noise grew louder, along with a lone gold blur in the distance to his right.

Blitza’s head exploded. The golden streak passed over the Trukk, erupting smaller golden streaks from what Guzzbag thought looked like an arm. Within seconds, Blitza and his drunken boyz in the back were slaughtered. The Trukk to the rear exploded in a colossal fireball spreading dozens of green fragments across the rest of the fleet. For the first time in his life, Guzzbag felt fear as the golden ‘umie landed on his Trukk. He reached for his Slugga and let loose a volley of bolts at the figure, who simply looked on in silence at the strange green creature and his primitive machine. The red and silver hammer in his hands rose above his head and slammed clean through the Trukks engine, catapulting Guzzbag through the windscreen remains and onto the dusty plateau. The last thing he saw before blacking out was the golden figure disembowelling the last Trukk in silence.

The model is amazing! I personally love it!

+1 Str for like 5 points? To autocannons or assault cannons? Hell yea. Then the Reinforced Aegis upgrade for free AND the ability to ignore stunned shaken.. pretty much for free..
Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Is he an Independent Character or an upgrade for Sanguinary Guard?

If he's an upgrade I'd say ditch Eternal Warrior as mostly unnecessary.

The only thing I'm leery of is that I5 Thunder Hammer (potentially I6, str 9) on the charge, that might be a bit too good.

Jack

P.S. Nice model though.

He's meant to be an HQ choice comprising of a single model, not an IC. Rather like Mephiston or DC Tycho., and remember that the I5 Thunder Hammer is only on the turn he assaults, so if he doesn't kill them in the initial assault then his assault potential is dampened. Thanks again for the comments on the model

All I could say was "whoa" when I saw this.

Awesome model, and awesome rules.

I love the addition of a model with Descent of Angels and Heroic Intervention.

I for one was highly disappointed when I discovered the BA Vanguard Veterans did not have Descent of Angels.

Awesome model, fluff and a solid character. I was curious why he doesn't have artificer armour, since he is in fact from the days of the HH and was an elite even then, stands to reason he would have it (and at 250 points, despite his hammering ways, I think he is a bit on the expensive side for a non-IC.

Either way, pretty cool man.

Thanks. I was considering Artificer Armour, but I thought to get a bit of feedback first before I decide, otherwise I was thinking wherever it would make him a bit OP. I'll add it though.

One thing though...

12 crusaded after chaos and were cast through the warp.
-2 who died during statis
-8 died on the trek back to Terra...

Is he not "really" the last?

Double check the wargear section of the codex for jumppacks, it makes it clear that any model which buys a jumppack gets "Descent of Angels".

As per the character I think he's ok, perhaps a bit overpriced at 250 with no IC, but that's likely a good starting point for play-testing (better to start too high and bring him down then the reverse, or your play group might end up not wanting to let you use him)

He could be, he never speaks to anyone of the events of the Final Release.
