I do like cannons but i find them fairly useless in small point games and would much prefer and organ gun or grudgethrower as you wont likely be facing any hydras/dragons at 1k points.

What are you giving the BSB thane? At this level of points I would be tempted to drop the rune of courage and give him handweapon, shield, rune of stone and rune of resistance. This way hes tougher to kill from his rerollable save. Your greatweapon thane I would maybe just give him a mundane greatweapon and give him the rune of gromril maybe so he has the 1+ unmodifiable save. For less points you get tougher characters. Then I would bulk out your warrior units. Possibly take the thunderers down to 10. I would also replace the cannons with an organ gun and any remaining points go towards more warriors. As bigger infantry blocks function very well. And dwarf warriors are great units for their cost. I would also be tempted to make one unit of them have greatweapons. Put the greatweapon thane in that. With the BSB thane in a second unit with handweapon and shields. With the thunderers guarding one flank of these two units and the organ gun the other they can focus on grinding the enemy down in close quarters. With the choppy greatweapon unit and shield and handweapon unit you should be able to take on most comers. As magic is pretty low at this points level. Failing that swap the greatweapon thane for a runesmith if you have a lot of magic heavy armies in your area.

Hope this gives some help.

Since when is it unmodifyable? Imo Rune of gromril gives you 1+ AS that cannot be IMPROVED in any way... nothing there stating that it cant be modified... please point me out if im wrong, and if im not, im immediately going to change my hero runebuild

Dwarfs are immensely strong and resilient, broad of shoulder, wide in the girth, with big hands and broad feet. As well as being physically robust they are also mentally tough. And then there are slayers...

Ah yes my bad. Cannot be improved. Still for a 1000 Point battle it should keep him pretty survivable due to the lack of higher strength units at such levels.
