So they say you should never have any regrets, but I do. I regret selling off my massive
BFG collection. Even tho' I had no people to play with, at the time, it was still pretty stupid.
This lingering 'whaaaambulance condition' puts me on eBay every once in awhile. Or, I look at the ships on
GW's site and/or Forge World.
Well, a few weeks ago, a Still-Sealed copy of
BFG showed up on the 'bay, and I went for it. I got INCREDIBLY lucky on the price, and
IT AM BE MINE.
So, I'm staring this new plog, because I feel it should be separate from my
40K plog.
Things I have learned:
1) Dang, there's a lot of ships now. Even if you ignore fan-made ships, like the exceptionally well-done "Book of Nemesis", it is clear that
BFG continued onwards, if slowly.
2) Still one of the best rulesets out there. Ever.
3) The 'Armada' Book might as well be the Ark of the Covenant.
4) Thankfully, everything's available in PDF...
5) ...except
BFG Magazine #1.
6) Costs went up a LOT. The Tau got screwed.
7) The 'Warp Rift' guys are a fun-loving bunch...
8) ...but I reserve judgment on their
BFG 'update'.
I built an Excel Spreadsheet, listing off all the ships and whatnots available, including ordinance markers, with their known costs. This allows me an at-a-glance idea of the maximum I should pay for an item. I'm starting with the "Canon" ships, those listed in The Blue Book and Armada, and will add in other ships as time, money, and interest permits. So, this is now a year-long project. We'll see where I stand, come December 24th, 2011!
As per my usual 'bent', this is not about fielding a competitive fleet. It is about Fluff and finding like-minded people to play in campaigns, even if I have to recruit them from the masses.
Next Episode:
Selecting the first four ships for the Imperial and Chaos fleets with an eye on 'balance', and commentary on
GW no longer selling big bags of flight stands.
