So, here is my Tau Fire Warrior tester. Went with a snow/ice theme. I was debating about making the gun all blue and maybe stipple with white like camo. I don't have a stipple brush ATM so I just went gray/black.
This took me a quite a while. With Crons you can drybrush and be dirty, not with Tau. Overall, I'm very happy with this. I feel like this model really challenged my painting ability and made me get better.

My camera is merciless. It really picks out the flaws and the brushstrokes. Looks better in person.

NICE pine cone!

Looks pretty good. I know what you're going for. Just try to clean up those darker parts a bit. Are you painting over black or white?

Not bad. Nice and neat. A smoother white will be great, but white is a difficult colour to paint. Good job so far.

Yeah the lines are all messed up throught the camera, but through the naked eye, on the battlefield, it looks better.
That said, I agree with your guys' comments. To answer the one question I'm painting over white washed with a thin black, so gray, basically. The important part to me was getting the "feel" of the army.
Any tips? Particularly on painting white?
I gemmed the center of the breastplate and it turned out great (used a tutoruial linked from this site), but the gun blocks it! Oh well...

Understate the black lines by making them thinner (maybe try using a paint pen?). Also make the gradiation in your grey less noticeable. And make sure to do a nice finish on the base.

Other then that it looks really good. Keep up the good work!
