Hello, I have recently (about 2 weeks ago) finally settled for a paint scheme and fluff for my fresh IG army. It shall be that of Mastermind, as made by TheSwain. A brilliant series of shorts, you can get a general idea over here.

Complete list found here http://www.youtube.com/user/HDNewgrounds#g/c/94BFE81A5FC1B80F
If you can be bothered, there's also two flash games on this.
____

I've always liked the art scheme, and I hope to get it across as well as possible. It's nice to know that nobody else in the world will look even remotely similar (assuming I can pull it off how I see it).
Another thing is that this is the most ideal fluff ever. Mastermind's lieutenants consist of completely different people with various accents, and is known for 'stealing science', and being a supervillain genetical experiments and such are completely reasonable. No limitations whatsoever.
It also fits the IG codex in some ways, for instance double sixes while shouting an order would mean someone shouted BALLS into the intercom or something like that

Anyways, onto the painting. After doing some notes I have concluded that to achieve this art style I would paint most areas scab red, the emblems, badges, lenses and such pure red and others would be a mixture of dark red-brownish. Boltgun metal and other metallic paints also get a treatment of red before being used and they mostly go onto vehicle parts, the infantry has non-metallic paints.
Also, black ink. Black ink all over the place. Massive clumps of darkness for hyper shading, possibly some outlining and all of that, but I don't want to mess up these models just yet.

I'm not that experienced at painting, so beware as your eyes might bleed a little MUHAHAHAHAH.
After multiple experiments with colours, I ended up with something like this. Note that they have been repainted multiple times and have been pounded with plastic shreds from using an electric drill. It sprays the stuff all over the place and I must've been drilling into the sentinel a bit too close, which is why they have the white thingies all over them. I should be able to brush them off with little effort, I just didn't notice them

Note that the two chaps have a somewhat different colour scheme, especially on the weapons. As of now I am clueless about what to paint the weapons like!
And here's the original.

Indeed, there's a lot of work left to do, which is why I have bought a bucket of greenstuff which should be arriving someday. I'll probably chop up every single model and engineer them with greenstuff. Sounds a bit like an Ailaros thing, I suppose he could share a tip or two

Opinions! Pour out some opinions out, and more importantly, tips and advice! What should I change, what should stay, what am I doing wrong that you want to slap me for and why you think Mastermind is the best. Go!

Well the world isn't going to take over its' self now is it? And what kind of achievement will that be without fashionable henchmen? Normally this wouldn't have been a problem, but I had all my fashion designers executed.
Should anyone help design a new flashy uniform, I just might spare you on the day of judgement. MUHAHAHA!

the only , meager, advice i'd have is watch flash/mold lines. and drill out theplasma cannon.

it's okay, but you'd be better off ink washing it and using metalics such as bolt gun metal and shining gold.

A dot is simply a line that has gone on a walk.

The model in front has been repainted countless times, but *some* mold lines are inevitable (and what are flash lines anyway). I tried watering down the paint a little, it helped a little. The white thingies are from when I use my high powered drill to insert magnets into sentinels ( ) and guardsmen. The second one is a liiiiiittle better.
Have some extreme close ups

Oh I will ink it off, quite a lot. In fact, the cloth areas already had some devlan mud on them (and some failed black ink outlining on the sentinel). Also, look up for metallic comparison.

Thanks for the feedback everyone

Nice shades.

I think the biggest problem that this has, actually, is the cadian armor. The dudes you're replicating don't have it, and the red-colored armor with the red bottom of the shirt looks confusing.

I'd either shave off the shoulderpads with a hobby knife and then paint all the clothing the darker color with the armor the lighter color, or I'd paint the armor a different color altogether. It would be like if those guys you're basing your models off of had put on cadian armor.

Otherwise, I think you're probably going to get your closest facsimile of your inspiration with like Mordian models, or something.

That video is great, by the way.

Hooray! Some instructions.
Let's see, if I were to paint the armour a completely different colour, what could that be. I'm thinking a slightly darker red, but still being obviously red and not brownish. There's also the option of pure bright red, but I'm not sure if that would look too good. Maybe I just need to paint the shirt darker.

Current status: shades are blood red, armour is red gore and the shirts are scab red. The skin is a mixture of tallarn flesh with a touch red, the darker parts of the shirt are a mix of red gore and black. My palette allows me to only use things from a "redscale", if you will. That is from pure red, into light to dark red, to brown and then to pure black.

Also, the cadian armour. Indeed it is a problem, but every cadian model has them bulky shoulderpads, while catachans have jackets. I'll definitely will be using the former, maybe buy a box of jungle fighters to use as penal legions or stormies
A bit hard to tell how these guys would look with the shoulderpads removed. Wearing nothing but a flak jacket would look more like the 5+ save that it is, but a bit of the intimidation factor goes out the window
Mordian, vostoryan or whatever is out of the question. Not only would the army be hard to find but also turn out ludicrously expensive (it's the IG after all).

Anyways, what about the lasguns and grenades. Any ideas how I should paint those?
