Subject: Savior's WoC Project- Sons of the North (Updated! Feb/05/11)

 |
Battle-tested Knight Castellan Pilot
|
Hello Dakka, today I come with another P&M update. After spending some time with 40k I decided to go back to my roots and play WHFB.
Well, I recently purchased the following...
(2 WoC Battalions obviously)
1 Galrauch, First of the Chaos Dragons
1 Archaon, the Everchosen
1 Khorne Lord on Juggernaut
1 Champion of Khorne
1 Chaos Sorcerer
15 Chaos Knights
15 Chaos Warhounds
36 Chaos Warriors
36 Chaos Marauders
So I am on a mission to paint all of my models by the end of the year.
So far I've done some shields and started on the base coats for my Sorcerer and Khorne Lord on Juggernaut.
Right now I just completed my Juggernaut took about 12 hours. So here's some sneak peeks and a link to my gallery.
Feel free to check in on my updates. I'll post on the Subject line for those keeping in touch.
Also while you're viewing my gallery feel free to comment/vote/rate my WoC and Orks as well. Thanks everyone!

I agree, the tones on the shield are quite good and perfect for that chaos feel.

Thanks Boogey!
I'll be posting pictures of the models as they're assembled, primed, and painted.
That way everyone can see them come to life and ask how I do my process.

Well the camera your using is washing out the detail pretty good, but I can still tell you did some pretty solid paintjob on those. WoC was 1 of the 2 armies I thought about playing in fantasy, the other was Ogre Kingdom (they are huge!) so another on the choice. Infact, I also had an idea in my head of making a really cool SM chapter and was going to the arms from marauders and make them WAY over the top and call them The KickAss marines. Pretty much all the 80s action movies rolled into powerarmor
Anyways, keep us posted because its looking good. My only tip would be read the tutorial section on talking pictures of minis, as its really helpful in getting a better picture, cell phone Im guessing? It works anyways

Thanks King!
I'm using my webcam, I'll take some with my digital camera when I have the time. I'm mainly focusing on getting the guys done.
Also I was either going to play Ogres or WoC. We think alike...

Currently taking a break. Monday will begin the process of assembling and priming the rest of my models.
So things to come are... Chaos Sorcerer, Champion of Khorne.
Here's some pics of my OOP Chaos Knights, I took them off the sprue and shaved them.

That's a wicked Juggernaut my man! My hubby painted one and well...he did nowhere near as good. Shhh! Don't tell him!
Dunno why but I love OOP stuff. Makes me feel like it's unique.
I look forward to seeing more. Keep it up and happy painting!

I've currently been clipping my WoC battalions off their sprue.
So as far as painting goes, all I've done is primed my Champion of Khorne.
Sorry, but I guess I'm taking a break from painting for a few days. But I will get one of the models done by this week.

Sometimes priming is the funnest part...at least for me if I'm having a rough day and don't have the patience for detail.

Yeah sometimes.
Well I just base coated and washed the Champion, and now I just main coated the Sorcerer.
But that's all for tonight, I'll start tomorrow for sure.

He looks great TS, how are you going to do his base? (or is it a snow base?) Like the early progress on the other figures as well.

It's going to be snow based, but I think it looks sorta plain. Going to add some foliage, to make it look more realistic.
I want the entire army to be fluffy, but my own fluff.
So the "Sons of the North" will be an army from the Frozen Wastes, which is why they have snow.

Take a look at the Great Marine Swap blog for the Mantis Warrior that I did for Ice Angel. Now that does not have it's final base (Ice will do that), but I just painted it white and then used Vallejo's "pale wash" to give it some subtle grey shadows.
My only issue is that the white doesn't show off your figure very well, though that just may be the fact that you've got both the white base and the white background... Try the pale wash and adding something of interest to the base (foliage or whatever) and see if that helps before doing anything more drastic.

Well whats a good base color for snow? I can easily paint over it.

I made a very nice base for a frozen north vampire lord on griffon some 12 years ago using stuff for the fish tank called Utah Ice (don't actually put it in an aquarium mind you, it's soluble...) and It looked very good.
Also trawl the scenery from model railways for ice and snow terrain and kit.
