I'm not much good at fantasy army lists yet so I was hoping for some C+C from you guys. I was thinking for the mage to go in the seaguard and for them so set up 7x3 in the centre with the dragon princes taking one flank and the chariot the other.

Hi there, fellow HE player! I'm also fairly new to the game, but in the few games I've played, I've learned quite a bit about the army.

Here're my comments and critiques...

1. On your Mage, I would consider giving him the Silver Wand, instead of the Dispel Scroll. Depending on the Lore you choose, having an additional spell could work better for you, plus it'll save you some points. (Also, you're short changing yourself 5 points in your original list. The Mage you made comes out to 180, not 185).

2. It seems like your list is more focused on marching and charging, what with the Chariot and DP's in the list. If that's the case, you want to consider using Spearmen instead of Sea Guard. They're 4 points cheaper, and if take the points you'd save from the Mage, you can easily have another 2 ranks of 5 or 1 rank of 10 more Spearmen. Their stat lines and special rules are identical, and the only thing you'd be missing is a Bow for each model, which I honestly don't think you'll find yourself using.

3. IIRC, Difficult terrain doesn't exist in 8th Edition now, so the Banner of Ellyrion is more or less useless. You'd be better off taking a Banner of Swiftness for extra movement. Even at a base of M8, an extra inch could prove vital.

4. Try investing all the extra points into more DP's if you can, or other Infantry Special units. White Lions and Sword Masters are 2 of the best that come to mind. In larger games, I would suggest you take Phoenix Guards as well.

Good luck!

Thanks for your comments, although the mage does actually come to 185 points unless my maths is worse than I thought. I was thinking of using spearmen but i hate the models and already have some seaguard. Your critiques have been noted well though and I shall tweak my list.

Banner of Ellyrion still has its uses, since it can prevent expensive Dragon Princes getting sucked down into marshes and such, the Errata changed it to make them ignore the effects of Dangerous Terrain. Though overall Banner of Swiftness is a better choice and I second that you should bring Spearmen instead of Seaguard. For the same point cost you can get 30 Spearmen with Full Command, no magic banner though.

Interesting idea with a "drakeling chariot", I'm not personally a fan of made up units that argueable don't fit fluff, but don't let that stop you if you got a nice design for it!

The lack of a battlestandard bearer could be an issue since your dragonprinces and chariot will have trouble winning against ranked up infantry, once they lost their charge bonus to strength. I would advice you to drop the amount of points spent on core units down to the bare minimum(250 points) and use to afford a second command group and split up the Dragon princes into two units. That way you won't lose any attacks from second rankers.

Also I'd suggest Light, Shadow or Life for your mage.
Light got the useful ability to boost your movement, attack and weaponskill amongst other things, also it got spells that can stop things from shooting your precious units.
Shadow is useful for weakening your enemies and strengthen your own units, also got some rather deadly spells such as Pit of Shades.
Life can increese the survivability of your own unit and revive the fallen aswell as having one of the most deadly spells in the game.

With only 2 or possibly 3 spells I would not count on getting the "killer" spells of each lore, so overall Light or Shadow is the better options, since more or less are their spells will aid this list.

I don't run this type of armies with my High Elves, though I'm confident that atleast SOMETHING I've written will be helpful. Good seeing a fellow Asur seeking to improve!

HE Dispel Scrolls are only 20 points, so it should come out to 180. What role do you see the Mage playing? Basic support? Additional Firepower? Depending on what you intend, there're probably more efficient builds to this guy.

I actually kind of like LSG in Caledor lists, though in lower point games, I would probably opt for Spears to begin with to bulk up your numbers. As Benshin commented, though, if you're intending to be more aggressive with your list, spears are definitely more worthwhile.

With only 3 units on the board, your opponents will have a real easy time allocating targets. While I do enjoy the large block of DPs (I run a similar unit myself), I would highly recommend keeping your DPs in small, bare-bones units to conserve points and give you more flexibility. As such, personally, I'd run 2 units of 5-6 with no command in this list. Dragon Princes cannot be bogged down in prolonged combat, and as it currently stands, these guys are quite vulnerable to it right now. Use the extra mobility to divert your opponent's attacks and try to combi-charge their flanks with the DPs and Lion Chariot. Getting a Great Eagle with the saved points (if you go 2x 5 DPs) will also help out a lot.

Hmmm...the biggest issue I can see is that your dragon princes will run into trouble as soon as they lose the charge or the second turn and forward in melée. Against a infantry unit of 3-4 ranks this unit will lose since there is no friendly ranked unit to help them negate the enemies Steadfast. Unless the seaguard will advance forward also and charge? though in that case Spearmens will be an better option. If you don't like their models you could try and remove the bows from the seaguard *shrugs*

You need some spearelves! A unit of at least 30 is a must.
I dont think dragon princes are that good, but for the record all heavy knights units have droped in 8th ed IMO.
Phenoix guards are awesome.
Deathstar units are generally not that good in low points games. Things like cannons and stonethrowers can ruin your day easy, and mass infantery will also make it unpleasant.
Remember that you only get to make a single supporting attack, so dragon princes only make a single attack from the second rank.

Always keep your core units to a bare minimum. High Elf core units aren't terrible, but they are very expensive for lightly armored elves without much damage output. Since you are at 1000 pts, I'm going to assume you are just working with the models you have, so I'll keep the list relevant to what you posted. Notice I mainly just cut items, because you are spending large amounts of points on items you do not need. Its a very good idea to try out barebones lists first, then add items in later if you really need them.

Lvl 2 Mage (Jewel of the Dusk)

10x Lothern Seaguard 130 (No command, although you may want to add in a banner later.
10x Lothern Seaguard 130

5x Dragon Princes (Musician)
5x Dragon Princes (No Musician)

Lion Chariot

Bolt Thrower

This comes to 1000 pts and gives you many units to maneuver with. Whilst all your units are small and will not win combats by themselves, you can set up good double charges with the princes and seaguard, or the chariot, while weakening the enemy with your mage and boltthrower. The mage sits in a Seaguard unit for protection and gets an extra dice. Take care not to get stand/shoot off the table by gunners and abuse your mobility and small unit size to deny charges. DO NOT just go head on, only the HE elite infantry (Sword-masters/Phoenix Guard) can take units in head on combat. Instead, play a denial game by running past his ponderous blocks and staying out of front arcs.
