I haven't played Warhammer in about 10 years and have recently gotten back into wargaming. I'm trying to choose a army and have always been a Wood Elf player but with the way the game has changed it seems you can't build a competitive Wood Elf List without packing it full of monstrous creatures. As this doesn't really hold true to the army(as I remember it)I'm torn between biting the bullet and getting on with it or choosing a different army.

I'm really not a fan of High Elves or Dark Elves so I was considering changing race altogether and going with Vampires. Can anyone lend any suggestions as to what they think a 'new player' should do?

I hope I'm posting in the right section of these forums.

I've always liked the idea of a forest spirit force i used 2 field 1 in 4th but with the new rules 4 hording treekin come into there own & you don't have the problem of certain types of terrain getting in your way i think you should look again i wish i'd never sold mine now i'm afraid i know nothing about VC so can't help ya there but definately check the WE book again before passing them over

You might want to try Tomb Kings for several reasons.

1. They're easy and quick to paint and look good on the field. Black, white, bleach bone and gold paints and you're 90% there.
2. You won't have to worry about psychology.
3. TK Magic is also pretty straightforward. No miscasting and only four spells to use.
4. TK magic is fun. Get an extra movement or attack in the magic phase. (Take two SS Catapults and fire four times each turn)
5. Take the casket and if it goes off.....whieee.
6. Bows always hit on 5s. Long range, movement, small target...makes no difference.

I think wood elves can be really good in 8th ed. Their archers are reallh nasty and now you can fire in 2 ranks! Tree kin is great, tree man too. Not sure about wild riders, good for WM hunting maybe?
I dont play WE, this is just what i think.
