Project & Personal Intro

(i got the idea for this intro from gitsplitta thanks for giving me a way to start this)
Ok so i began Playing 40k about five years ago after getting hooked on the game dawn of war soulstorm and of course like every angry teenager who gets into this game i fell in love with chaos. But above all else i fell in love with bezerkers of khorne. As the years went by i began to fall into other armies changing my entire chaos army into the warriors of mayhem and killing all hopes of seeing the bezerkers on the table for a while.

But recently i pulled out the island of lost mini's and fell back in love with my bezerkers again. I've been reading a lot of Horus heresy novels and wanted to do a pre heresy army. So the pre heresy World eater idea came up. i'll be using the blood angels codex and doing almost an entire fluff army as in assault marines will have rhino's not jump packs only the best of the best get jump packs. which means that most of my "assault marines" will be vanguard with the rhino. The entire army will be converted as in I REFUSE TO BUY FORGE WORLD PRE HERESY MODELS nothing against forge world but i wanna test my ability's as a modeler and painter.

So for this army that there are very few pictures of i've found that my best hope of concept art comes from the old horus heresy card game and of course lexicanium. but this is what i have for my paint scheme.

i have modeled a marine but these are crap pictures but let me know what you think. All these bits are from the chaos marine set.

i'm open to any suggestions as far as fluff or modeling so have at it guys

So I'm Close to finishing five marines. Four of them just need the teeth green stuffed on there shoulder pads to finish the logos and one needs everything but the legs. Next update should be picture heavy.

Hey, I started a blog today and modelled it largely on Gitsplitta too!

Nice scheme, btw. I have a Mentor Legion squad that looks good, and these guys are kinda similar.

Is this going to be a counts-as army or a codex SM army?

Crazypsyko666 - this will be fielded from the blood angels codex. Just seems fitting using death company as bezerkers, fast rhinos, and the storm raven (which should make for some fun storm bird conversions).

OK guys here is some W.I.P. pics first of the sergeant.
Green stuff work.

and a picture of his studs

and here is the three tactical marines with there green stuffed shoulder pads.

should have thee teeth started on them tonight. Hopefully they'll be ready for primer tomorrow night

Woah!!! thats a stormbird? I had always just imagined a slightly bigger thunderhawk. Wow.

As for the Pre-heresy worldeaters, I have a longing to do them justice, but yet again, haven't got the motivation, nor could I get to grips with the colour scheme.

I like the mix of csm and sm parts, to give it that more antique, still-angry-but-not-chaos-yet look. As for the studs, I think they could do with being a bit more uniform. Atm they look a little too orky/improvised for a sm army, even if it is the bezerkers.

@wolfshadow- Wow holy crap they play them out to be much smaller in fulgrim. O well i'll think of something fun to do with the storm raven yet!!!

@candlestick- Thank you hopefully you wont have to wait long.

@reanimator- I agree they should look uniform on the other legions. But as far as the world eaters go i kind of always expected them to care little for there Armour and just bounce from planet to planet slaughtering for the emperor. Maybe for some of my later units i'll do some clean cut marines who would eventually be the ones killed in the viral bombings for being to loyal to the emperor. Thanks for the advice though.

Good start and good luck. Pre-Heresy WE have the most interesting look in the art: very rounded and surprisingly subtle.

While converting your own armor is great, where you might find FW useful would be for their weapon packs. Converting you own pre-heresy weapons would be a major pain. It's also not as expensive per model to use the weapon bitz (versus the armor bitz).

Do you have the Horus Heresy Collected Visions book? Lots of awesome, bulgy WE stuff in there. The jetpack squad illustrations are particularly awesome.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

It's probably to late now, but I went to a Tutorial session at my local GW store where they were doing pre-heresy/heresy era marines.
They use lolly pop sticks to extend the bolter barrels and lengthen the exausts, sort of like my icon bearer (look at his pistol and backpack)

I prefer using kabob sticks. If they get wet they wont become soggy. But both work. They are really good for terrain though.

Yeah I've seen people extend out the backpacks in heresy era marines, never actually seen the bolter done though. personally for my army I'm going off the picture of heresy era Armour in newest edition space marine codex where the backpacks are more similar to new style Armour. I like the icon bearer though that icon's rad.

The sword needs more blood. In fact, the whole model needs more blood.

Find a willing donor and get at it! Or you know, just use an old toothbrush and some red paint...either works fine.

Thats not the Stormbird. Thats an old dropship from the original Adeptus Titanicus/ Space Marine game. There was a master made by Bob Olliey ( I think) but it was smaller. This is what the Stormbird Looks like:

One way you can get good-looking, gorey blood is by mixing baking soda with red and a little bit of black paint. For more blood, use less soda. For more gore, use more. I like to use a similar mix with Plague Marines, except with browns and stuff.

EDIT: BTW, looking good!

Hey guys just stopped in to give you a quick update. I've got two guys fully painted and the flock done working on number three when i finish him I'll put pictures up of the group so far.

With that i need to start thinking of the next 5 models including the heavy bolter guy. Does anyone have any awesome ideas for how to make this H.B. look good?

Thoselittle pink things up front look like marines to me, and are a little too small to be dreads compared to the rhinos.
