Hi there. The idea of a Sanguinary Guard force has recently caught my attention. I know that SG list aren't always as tough as they need to be, so I'm wondering...Could the following list win about 50% of the time?

Lamenters 1000 pt Army

HQ
* (counts-as) Dante/ 225 pts

Troops
* 5 Sanguinary Guard-2 with Infernus Pistols, 1 with Power Fist/ 230 pts
* 5 Sanguinary Guard-2 with Infernus Pistols, 1 with Power Fist/ 230 pts
* 6 Assault Marines-1 with Meltagun, Sgt with Power Fist/ 135 pts
* 6 Assault Marines-1 with Meltagun, Sgt with Power Fist/ 135 pts

Total: 991 pts

Thanks for any replies.

I don't think that bad is there anyway of shoe horning a sang priest in there to get FnP someone posted a similar list @ 2,000pts last night keep it all together so it can benefit from the priest if you get 1 in then start @ 1 end of the battleline & work ya way down would look cool to all in white

I just had a quick look & i reckon you'd get a JP sang priest in if you dropped 1 each of the assault squads & swapped the PF's for melta bombs with a 2+/4+ those sang guard would take such a beating before being brought down

I agree with dj narcosis. I think you need to shoehorn in a Sanguinary Priest. I'd drop one each from the Assault squads, drop one power first, and put in a Jump Pack Priest. Infact, just take a 10 man assault squad with two melta guns and a sarge, and combat squad if you need to. 4 squads with PFs seems like overkill to me - there will always be one soft target you can send the non-PF squad at.

I think you'd need most of your forces to arrive at the same time to have a chance, but with DoA, you'd at least have a chance.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

it will probably get minced. Sanguinary guard have no invun so die very quickly.

You can get a squad of assault termies for roughly the same price with a 3+ invun and all the mincey close combat you need especially when joined by a sang priest for those FNP rolls.

I made a totally sang guard list and play tested it against space wolves and i lost very heavily

If he puts the sang priest in then he basically gets jump troop termies with furious charge with DoA

I think you are still likely to get killed the turn you deepstrike, but it may have some chance.

Darthdiggler posted a similar list last night you'll find it on pg2 headed trouble with BA but larger his advice was to drop everything close together to get the FnP bubble covering more of your troops then start @ 1 end of your opponents battleline & work your way up i can't see why it wouldn't work as a smaller force just may take a bit of practise to learn what you can get away with i'm gonna be using something alomg the same lines myself

Yeah i think the second draft is much better m8
