I havent played many games of fantasy before, but been a fan for quite some time( i have played 40k for much longer) and thought i should get a proper fantasy army. This list is an all comers list and it will be used for friendly games in the local GW store and with friends. Plan is to run the halberdiers strait up and support with the rest. The lev one wizard will take the singature spell and buff the halberdiers. Any ideas of anything i could improve? Here goes:
Warrior Priest w/ GW, aromour of metioric iron (119)
Wizard lev 1 w/ dispel scroll, lore of beast (90)
30 Halberdiers w/ FC, (315)
14 halberdiers detachment,
15 halberdiers detachment
20 Flagellants w/ doom sayer (210)
Great Cannon (100)
Mortar (75)
5 Pistoliers (90)
Total: 999pts

Since you already have a healthy block of halberds. Maybe change the detachments to something that can compliment them? Some ranged shooting or maybe swordsmen for extra punch? ( sorry if that not applicable. I don't have direct access to an empire book right now ).
Otherwise it looks like a nice mix of ranged, magic and melee.

Actually, halberdiers pack a harder hit then swordsmen, but swordsmen get parry, WS4 and I4. I though about it, but figured halberdiers are both cheaper and better if i actually want to kill my opponent, not just grind him down with numbers and static res.
Should i try find the points to make my wizard lev2? I can already make good use of the power dice and im not a fan of random spells...

That's a good reason for keeping more halberds actually now you point it out. The lvl 2 wizard would be useful just for the extra point towards casting and dispelling. Which can really help versus magic heavy armies or getting a more difficult spell cast.

Well, uppgrading him would be easy, but im still not sold on a lev 2... Is an extra +1 really gonna make such a difference if i throw like 4 dice?
Any other magi. Items i coild give the wizard? Like rod of power or power scroll?

Whilst it isn't as vital at 1000 points and low point battles. As you get to higher point battles it can make all the difference. If you want to give the wizard some items maybe some sort of ward save to up his survivability from miscasts and anything your enemy throws at him?

Well, if i'd keep him lev one and drop the scroll he... Does ir matter what the enemy throws at him? In worst case he could serve as a bait! Automatically Appended Next Post: Maybe i should try find the points to fit a bsb in there...
