This is a model I have been on and off working on for a while.

Any suggestions on how to improve would be appreciated

Edit: First Picture was bad, added a couple that work a little better

A nice black wash and some highlights for the raised areas of his exoskeleton and possibly some drybrushing of blue on the carapace.

I'll try out the wash and see what it looks like, as for the highlights, I already have them... or are you talking about after the wash?

I think maybe btemple0 was suggesting taking the highlights on the carapace a little higher, rather than purely on the edges. Or I could be having a complrehension fail too.

i would dump the sword and make 4 new ones for this guy in plastic card, and put on talon arms just like you have on him. and try to work up some biffy swords for him. otherwise you have to match all the swords to the orginal. but do like me just wing it and it will happen.

It may be just how I am looking at the picture itself. But otherwise taking another light coat of red on top of current highlights the undercoat red and the highlight red seem to be a little bit close.

Or it could be my monitor sucks.

The pictures don't really do it justice, and the colors seem a little off compared to the actual model.

The bonesword is just some experimentation with colors (I'll be stripping it to begin anew soon).

I have been wrestling with the highlights, if I want them deep or just the edges... I may try a half and half view and see what I like better.

Okay, I changed the way I do the armor for all my larger 'nids (Much heavier and deeper drybrushing). Here's what my Swarmlord looks like now

I honestly love the new appearance of the carapace, it looks to have a better transfer from dark to light color.

What are you going to do about the BSes? I think it'd be great if you got a good depth into them aswell - personally, i'd lean against a greenish (around scorpion green) with some good blend-effects to 'em...

I was planning to do a Psychic like color scheme for the swords like a dark purple interior lighter then white tips but I honestly don't know what to really do as of yet.

White <--- Light Purple <--- Purple <---Dark purple ---> Purple ---> Light Purple ---> White
