Howdy all,
Workin on an 1850 BA list to beat some face in an upcoming 1850 tourney. I'm trying to be as WAAC as possible with this; afterall, theres going to be 3 mech guard players running triple vendettas! Gotta be able to bring the heat just as well!

Plan: The termis, libby, 1 priest, and reclusiarch pile into the LR. They run around and dominate whatever they touch. The 3 lascannons and 6 autocannons I'm packing should tear through whatever armors in the way. The last priest goes with a AM squad to help keep them alive.
Any comments would be great; tear apart this list!

It looks solid enough m8 not sure about 5 man squads though it wouldn't be difficult to drop them below scoring status i think i'd have the other priest in another assualt squad but i guess you'd only know by playing it best of luck @ the tourny

I've been playing with Preds lately, and honestly, I have not been impressed. I typically have streaks of terrible rolling as well, so the TLAC dreads are more forgiving when I'm having bad rolls lol

I've been playing with Preds lately, and honestly, I have not been impressed. I typically have streaks of terrible rolling as well, so the TLAC dreads are more forgiving when I'm having bad rolls lol
on that note are you sure you want to do AM, they are not very forgiving (not against hordes of gribblyness)

Not sure on the expensive Terminator unit on it's own in a large game - don't need Reclusiarch either as Librarian re-rolls to hit.
Not enough min Assault Squads really, need another two to make 30 scoring troops which is normal for Marine lists. Las/plas is better in Angel lists too.
Autocannons are ok but aren't that fearsome, you don't have enough hard hitting ranged anti tank and too much lower range anti tank.

The termis have been performing spectacularly since I've began using them. I agree about the 'Clusiarch, but didn't know where else to spend the points (2 MM LS maybe...)
I'm also borrowing the RB's from a friend. WYSIWYG, and hes only got TLLC for his ultramarines. AC's dominate rhinos/razorbacks, which I'll be facing plenty of, and do well against MC's. I also like to use the dreads to run into CC with zoanthropes, tyranid primes, etc. to tie them up! Of course I'd try the pred again, but with the horrible streak I've had with them lately... (3 games, only wrecked 1 vehicle)

mooching along lol. Its pretty easy to get up the board when you think; start 12" up, 48" across board, so in 2 turns your already halfway up the board! Of course, I only move them up when facing armies like Daemons or Nids where I really want to tie crap up til the beaters come

I'd cut the Reclusiarch also, as a potential replacement you could include one more RAS in flamer razor and have 5 more spare points to spend somewhere. This would give you another scoring unit, and another infantry killing unit in case you run into infantry heavy armies.

So I was at work today and thought... perhaps I'll try a new DoA stayle list for this tourney. DoA seems to do great against the mech-heavy meta, and I think it'll take many people by surprise! Not to mention it should work well against the horde style lists in my area. DoA gives me the benefit of keeping my whole army in reserve and most of it coming down when I need it; or coming in from the edge and punching face.
So, that being said, heres my proposed 1850 DoA Tourny list! Note: I'll be borrowing a few jump models to flush this out, but any ideas would be great. I only own about 30 jump marines myself

So heres the breakdown:
- 30 jump marines... meaning I can combat squad and have up to 6 troops choices! This will be great for games where table quarters are key
- 3 speeders with ideal anti-mech or anti-infantry weaponry. They can DS or come in from reserve to fry crap
- The raven carries my death squad w/ libby and priest and furioso. Dominates whatever it touches
This list gives me an assload of meltas, an assload of flamers, and my hard as nails hammernators. I lack ranged support... but who needs ranged when I pick and choose where to fight my battles?

I wasn't either... but hell, coming 24" off the board edge means at least I'll get close! I guess I'm banking on all my deep striking meltas taking down tanks so the raven can be pretty safe. I've been having great luck with mine lately

Pretty solid DoA list, but the Stormraven really isn't going to work. With it being the only armor on the board, you know where every anti-tank weapon of the opponent's is going to be aimed.
Illustration for clarification at bottom of the post  .
With the extra 215 points, bump your termies up to 4LC, 6 TH/ SS, and combat squad them when deep striking. In this way you can wreck any treadhead's day  .

Thing is; the ravens there just to transport the termies and dread. Beauty of this list is it can start off the board, and turboboost in 24"! By then, hopefully my many (many many) meltas will take care of the biggest threats to my raven. Plus, I only have 4 LC and 4 TH/ SS termies :( used 1 to model a priest and 1 for my libby in TA lol

If you want to use the raven, then you need to dedicate more points to a 2nd or maybe even 3rd raven. All with dreads and potent assualt units - DC is fairly good in this situation.

Dante with sanguinary guard maybe?
Now he has to pick between assualt termies, Dc and Sanguinary guard ( or maybe honor guard).
Screwed no matter what...
Unless he is IG, then they just kill all your ravens with mass lascannon, autocannon, BID, etc.

Had my first game using the new list (only a 1750 variant) vs Blood Angels. Its for our campaign at my local FLGS; this is my first TRUE game of the campaign, so I'm pretty far behind. Due to the campaign rules, I was not allowed to deep strike my army (which hurt). Heres the lists:

Mission was 3 objectives/table quarters. I won the roll to go first. Here are the highlights:
- T1 I saved 5 or so pen hits on the raven
- Dreadnaught tied up 2 full marine squads for the entire game... I'm going to be changing to blood talons lol
- His libby killed my libby
- Vindicator did nothing
- His 2 dev and tac squad w/ priest managed to kill a 6 man AM squad of mine over 3 turns... every turn I missed ALL my PF attacks (yeah, I know)
- The HG was great at wrecking vehicles; not much else.
- In the end we drawed... my 7 man squad held my objective. On T5 my TH/SS termi failed to hit a rhino that moved 6 (rolled triple 1's), he moved flat, claiming the mid objective. I contested; however, on T6 (I wrecked the rhino) his plasma gun killed my last 2 HG. My terminators were 1" away from contesting....
A lot of bad rolls this game saw some fights I should have EASILY won go very poorly for me. As well, a few good rolls really infuriated my opponent (like all the raven saves)... In all I didn't enjoy facing my opponent, but I did learn a lot about the list! I have a feeling I'll write up 2 lists (1 footslogger, 1 DoA) for this campaign as the fact I won't be able to DS in a lot of games will make this list hard to do much against things like IG.
What was left at the games end:
Him - 2x priests, 1 tac marine, all his devs, 1 pred immobilized/no weps, vindi immobilized/no weps, 3 marines in 1 AM squad, 4 in another AM squad
Me - Raven (immobilized), 1 AM from 1 squad, 7 am in flamer squad, dread, 1 speeder, 1 speeder w/ MM destroyed, priest, 4x terminators
Overall I think the list did really well; I had no issues with mech. His great FnP rolls really hurt me in CC (thus why all the devs lived). If I had been able to DS I believe the game would have been much easier to win (I would have taken all my AM's into his backfield and fried the devs, while my ravens/speeders took out the transports/vindi)... but thems the breaks! SO heres a slightly reworked version of the list:

Highlights:
Turn 1: Blew the demo cannon off his vindi, he killed 2 speeders
Turn 2: Wrecked 1 rhino, vindi, and LR, all my reserves came in. He killed 1 5 man squad
Turn 3: Killed 1 tac squad, command squad w/ HQ, blew up 1 rhino, wrecked his last rhino (pinning squad). His turn, he prety much fought back with whatever he could.
Turn 4: Killed second tac squad. He killed 1 of my 5 man squads.
Turn 5: Raven blew up a squad, causing sergeant to run. Rest of my army ran to contest his obj. His turn he killed off the rest of a 5 man squad.
Turn 6: My ENTIRE army shot at the lone sergeant.... he went to ground, made every cover save :( His last 5 man squad shot at my speeder, wrecking it.
Game ended, me 2 objectives to his 1.
He had: 6 tac marines left
I had: Dread, 8 marines, 4 termis w/ priest and libby, raven
Was a good game against an experienced opponent. The raven was key this battle; ALL his anti tank besides the LR was meltas, meaning he had a rough time (he didn't even glance it once this game). The list worked out well, terminators tore apart his command squad and a tac squad. The furioso was beast, killing 9 marines overall with his frag cannon, as well as wrecking the vindicator. I'm still wary of replacing it with talons :/

Just got the new raven built and a new DC dread  Will be posting a battle report of the tourney this coming sunday; stay tuned!
Any suggested tweeks before the coming weekend would be nice as well

Well my 1750 list scored 1st place at our St Valentines Day Massacre here in Albuquerque. Here was the turnout:

So the field was varied and challanging! I was surprised (like many others) our resident IG players didn't show up (one of which I lost to at the last tourney by a nosehair!). So heres who I played against:
Game 1 - Ultravehicles
HQ - Libby, Null Zone, Avenger - TA, SS
5x termis - 4 TH/SS, 1 claw - LRR ride w/ MM
10x Tacs - plasma/mm
10x tacs - melta/mm

Obj: Seize ground, DOW
Outcome: He was doomed from the getgo. I alpha struck T2 when I made all my reserves and destroyed/wrecked the weapon off both vindis. He also disembarked his termis to eat one of my 5 man combat squads, which allowed my termis to go uncontested on his right flank. what sealed the deal was on T5 when I wrecked his LR, pinning the termis, and subsequent fire from the rest ofy force took the squad down to just the librarian facing down an imminent charge from mephiston. In the end I took both objectives and managed to board him (he went on to beat his next opponent, but lost to tyranids by a slim margin on his last game)
Game 2 - Dark elfdar

Obj - Annihilation, table quarters
Outcome: I gave him first turn and reserved my army. My plan was to let him get out of his vehicles/spread out and take him down peicemeal. He was using a mostly wab-portal list, so I'd take out his surrounding support units and then focus on the portal. T1 he disembarked his warriors into a building and spread out. T2 his ravger, cronos, and wyches came in thru his portal on the mid of the table. The wyches got into a building. On my turn 1 raven, 1 AM squad, and 2 speeders came in. The SR came in at the board edge and shot 2 missiles into the rear of his ravager that was hiding, immobilizing it. My speeders HF'd the building with the wyches, killing them all (his hemi was with his incubi). The next turn, his archon w/ tesques assault my speeders, the rest of his forces move up (nothing came in T3 for him). He fails his shooting (hit all of them on raven, didn't get anything over a 3), then fails his assault (no glances/pens, he hit 6 times). Needless to say, the game goes more downhill from here from him... in the end, all I lost was 1 stormraven and 1 speeder. A second speeder was immobilized, and 1 speeder was still in reserve when he conceeded T4.
Game 3 - Taus still around?
HQ - Crisis commander w/ drones
2x units of 3 suits w/ 3 drones - all decked out
2x units of 2x broadsides w/ drones
2x units of 6 firewarriors
1 ion cannon vehicle
2x devilfish
~10 kroot w/ 10 kroot hounds
Obj: Capture and control, pitched battle
Outcome: Heres the short: T1 I speed up, wreck empty devil fish. He wrecks 1 raven, 2 speeders, kills 2 termis. T2: I kill both crisis teams in assault + all the kroot. He immobilizes my other raven, blows all the weps off my last speeder, kills a few marines, pens and rolls a 1 twice on the dread! T3: I kill his ioncannon vehicle thing, 1 thing of broadsides. T4 he conceeded as he had to go and meph was in position to kill off his last 2 troops.
Afterthought: The list played like I love to play; aggressively. Most of my opponents were shocked how quickly my guys got up the field and into the fray. My final match was either going to be BT, orks, or Tau... saddly I pulled the easiest match up of the three for the list :( I was hoping to face the BT player as I wanted to test my list against a razorspam style list, which he was running. Here was the final W/L/D tally for everyone:

Me and the BT guy split first as the tourney didn't build in any tie breakers (the TO didn't know he was TO until the tourney was about toi start...). The guys who scores 2-1-0 and stayed until the end of the tourney walked away with prizes as well. Overall, was a great turnout and a lot of fun! I'm thinking of taking my 1850 version to the tourney later this month... who knows?
