Me & a m8 are going to a doulbles tournie in march sometime it's a scrap between some local GW stores in our area & traditionally our store does very well so we wish to keep this rep. going neither myself or my parner has played in the new edition so can't decide which armies to play or what to put in them so i've knocked up a sample list for both based on a conversation we had this week i'd really like peoples views on it & any alternate suggestions they may have for either the lists or even the armies to play i don't mind splashing out on a 750 pt force all i want them to do is kick arse & keep our stores rep intact cheers be cruel

I can't tell if there's enough combat power in here or if the bloodletters can deal with all the melee they'll be called on to do please feel free to suggest something else if you all think it stinks cheers

I like it a lot actually. DE bring speed and ranged support, Khorne brings the hurting. You may have issues with magic or shooting heavy lists, but I think you should do pretty well.

She is illegal, both the Tome and the Scroll are arcane items. I'd personally go for the Tome and Shadow Magic. Snagging three of those spells almost guarantees good utility for whatever situation you and your partner may come across. Of course, Dark is a nice all-around low spell cost utility lore, too. This is, of course, assuming you really feel you want magic in your duo. I prefer to leave it for larger games, but given a handy set of spells and some luck you can probably sway a battle or two with it.

I don't like RBTs in 8th edition. 8th buffed both the Stone Thrower and the Cannon and the Bolt Thrower got punched in the face. Because it's a BS-based shot, you miss 50% of the time against anything at long range. If your target hiding behind any other unit it's now considered screened and you're hitting on 6's. Even if you do connect, you're now wounding T6 monsters only 50% of the time. So let's say you were shooting at a Hellpit Abomination at long range that's sitting behind anything. 1/6 chance to hit, 1/2 chance to wound, and only D3 wounds not counting if it passes its 4+ regen.

Not only is the Hydra the superior Rare option, it's also a very wonderful option because it's only 175 points which is just shy of your 25% limit. In the broader spectrum this means that you won't see any big scaries that cost over 190 points so a Doomwheel, Vargulf (I think) or other Hydras might be your only other monstrous concerns.

My numbers might be a little off, but I'd be sorely tempted to give this list a shot:

Sorceress - Lv.2, Tome of Furion - 115
5x Dark Riders - Crossbows - 110
14x Crossbowmen - Musician - 146
14x Crossbowmen - Musician - 146
5x Harpies - 55
Hydra - 175

Total: 747

Harpies and Dark Riders are available for war machine hunting and general harassment. Two groups 14 Crossbowmen tend to stick around a bit and if you're shooting harassers you don't need a 20-strong unit to wipe out a few scouts or light cav. With two units you can also choose to either split fire or focus on a single unit. The only drawback is if you use Lore of Fire or Metal then a ranged attack buff (flaming/+1 to wound or +1 to hit) will only apply to one group, but that's not always going to be applicable and likely not every turn even when it is.

Wow that is a much better list fai play didn't realise they were both arcane items cheers for pointing it out & with the hydra we can take flamers instead od of the hounds

Kirbinators list is solid.

The only thing i'm concerned about is if you hit that banner scenario; between both your armies you only have 1 banner.

He could always drop a crossbowmen from each unit and replace with banners, he'd just have to be wary of people trying to pick off easy banners from 13x crossbowmen.

Alternatively, swap out the Dark Riders for a pack of Shades, that should open up 20 points for those banners. Not much better in terms of banner survivability, but it's not like swapping Riders for Shades is a bad alternative.

Edit: You might want to shorten that thread title. Something like "DE + DoC 750x2 Doubles" would be sufficient. You can ask things like Hounds vs. Flamers in your posts.

I just did the maths & i think you didn't put the points in for the LVL 2 on the wizard so i dropped a couple of X bowmen off to bring back under 750pts so i think this is what we're gonna start playtesting

Skulltaker

30xBloodletters-fullcommand,icon of endless war

5xFlamers

Sorceress - Lv.2, Tome of Furion - 150
5x Dark Riders - Crossbows,muscian - 117
12x Crossbowmen - Musician - 126
12x Crossbowmen - Musician - 126
5x Harpies - 55
Hydra - 175

Do you think there's enough combat power in it the letters are gonna take such a pounding will they hold up to it i've not played them before so don't know what they can take

You have a hydra. The letters are not going to be the primary target.

Sound that was exactly what i was hoping for the flamers & Xbowmen can thin the block units down ready for the main charge then the hydra & letters can smash the centre wide open & skulltaker can then whallop any hero's silly enough to get in the way which magic lore do ya reckon would go best Kirbinator suggests shadow but i don't know the lores to well & i will be controling the khorne side of things & also never used magic before so am a novice with it

I prefer shadow for the hexs making your str 3 wound on 4's, 3's and 2's instead of just 4's and 5's is a great thing. I tend to like the earlier spells (signature, 2 and 3) having pit and mind razor are just an added bonus.

Other options would include Fire, Metal, Death and Dark.

Out of those 4 I would go with either Dark or Death. Death is for sniping characters but then again you have Skulltaker for that. Dark is overall a good lore simply because of its low casting value.

Aha! I knew I was forgetting something. That's what I get for making a list without a book handy.

That is a very good question. What will you run if Skulltaker isn't allowed?
