Hi, the start of my Bad Moonz army, painting minis in batches of six, here are the first lot. Want to get a decent sized force together to finally start playing 40k. Starting the P&M Blog to (hopefully) get some help and encouragement to keep on with the project. Pics are bad at the moment as I am using a PS2 Eye Toy, but I will update the pics when I get better equipped photographically.

These are the first Orks I've ever painted, used the same scheme as I used for the last models I did, which were a squad of metal Cadians over 10 years ago!

Undercoat - Chaos Black Spray
Skin - Goblin Green
Armour - Iyanden Darksun (no wash)
Clothing - Codex Grey
Webbing - Bubonic Brown
Metal - GW Metalics
Teeth - Skull White/Bleached Bone highlight
Eyes - Blood Red

Painting Method - paint base coat colours, wash with Chaos Black, outline in Chaos Black and finally highlight in same colour as base coat.

Hope you like them, c&c most welcome, thank you for looking

EDIT - OOps only five Orks here?, will show the AWOL Boy next update

EDIT - Things I've learned when preparing minis :-
1. Use a needle file, the one which is shaped like a knife, with one edge like a blade and a point at the end, it can be used to file down flash and also cut into plastic.
2. Do all the same parts together, ie. do all the legs, then all the bodies etc, so that you find where flash is quicker, and are less likely to miss bits.
3. Don't drill the gun barrels too deeply, a correct size dimple is all that is really needed.
3. Wash all prepared parts in warm (not hot) soapy water, rinse and dry before assembly.

Wow, I really like the grey clothing for the Bad Moons. I've never seen that before, and it really works. Yellow on grey makes the yellow pop out a lot more than yellow on brown.

I just started a yellow army blog too

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Yes, more bad moons! They look great. One tip though. Orks have badly maintained armor. It would look good if you'd paint any metal bits rusty. It will look good, and it fits well with the yellow. I got a bad moon blog as well, if you're interested in how it looks, click the link to my ork blog in my signature.

First apply a layer of blazing orange over the black basecoat. Then drybrush with chainmail, and finally wash the metal bits with devlan Mud.

Other then that, you're on the right start.

@ Fifty - thanks, I'll take your Wow for my colour scheme, and raise you with a Cor! for your beautiful hand painted Lamenters shoulder pads
@ Scrazza - thanks, I love your rusty armour, but think I will continue daubing bright yellow paint on mine, for the time being at least

Faster than a speeding bullet six more Bad Moonz, including converted free White Dwarf Nob (+ awol Boy from last time - far left).

I can see now I've missed a bit (missile launcher blast shield should be yellow) will have to put that right, but hope you like 'em anyway, thank you for checking out my army, c&c most welcome.

I'm really digging the sort of cartoony style you've got going with these guys. The mostly flat colors and stark blacklining really makes them pop. Personally, I wouldn't dirty/rust them up at all. Your scheme is visually striking, but it's not in the "realistic" realm, so any reasonable attempt at weathering is going to weaken the impact, I'd think.

Any thoughts on how you're going to base them? I'd think something simple and high contrast would best suit the models, painted as they are.

@ oadie - thanks, that's exactly the type of graphic look I'm trying to achieve, hope to carry it through on to the vehicles too. As for the bases I'm thinking of sticking on a few sculptural pieces (low profile), and then painting the top surface Charadon Granite leaving the edges black.
@ CommissarKhaine - thanks, it's really only two coats of slightly watered down Iyanden Darksun, but as (apart from the skin, eyes and weapons) all the other parts are monochrome, it makes the yellow really stand out.

Two questions-
Is that an AOBR nob?

and Are you just doing flat colors?

Hi, it's the Nob that came free with White Dwarf magazine a while back, but basically same as the AOBR Nobs. I converted it slightly by removing the top not and adding a Power Claw and Boss Pole from the Boys multi-part boxset.

Painting is first done in block colour, it then has a Chaos Black wash, then highlighted with the original block colour (removing most of the wash, just leaving it mostly in the recesses). The metallics have just block colour, then a Chaos Black wash. The Armour has two coats of slightly watered down Iyanden Darksun, with no wash at all. I use slightly watered down Chaos Black for the black lining.

Thanks for your interest.

Nice orks and Great paint job for your first modals in over 10 years.

But for me there just to clean looking for orks . I like my orks dirty looking. With the sales still on you should be able to get a decent digital camera for cheap.

Anyways keep up the awesome work and I look forward to seeing more soon i hope.

Looted Wagon WIP

Wagon
Boomgun
'Ard Case
Armour Plates - need to put more on turret along with a Grot door
Reinforced Ram - this needs beefing up a lot, or should I start again with a dozer type ram?
Grot Riggers - will be using the Stormboys Grot on top of turret
Red Paint Job - Dags scratched into sides of Wagon and plastikard Dags on front will be painted red
Big Shoota
Big Shoota

I modeled it on the following fluff - A wreck of a Leman Russ was purchased off an enterprising Death Skull, by a Bad Moon Big Mek. The sides were patched up but a new front and turret had to be manufactured, along with engine mods.

Any suggestions? and keep 'em clean pls

EDIT : Thanks Fifty

Your yellow looks solid. I like it. Maybe some battle damage would make them look a little more battle worn. The loota tank looks great.

Sorry I just nipped out for a few minutes there.

Here's a picture of a Black Templar I painted a decade or so ago, using a really simple technique, I painted half a dozen of these before the chapter spacific plastics were released and I abbandoned the project.
I assemble the torso and legs, leaving the head, arms and shoulder pads seperate (and not gluing to a base) I spray with Chaos Black, then wash with Skull White, I remove excess wash with a toothbrush and washing up liquid, using a polishing motion as not to dislodge paint from the models recesses.

Thing is, as a break from painting Orks, I'm thinking of using the same technique to paint a small force of Death Spectre Space Marines, I have the models and the decals but would appreciate some oppinions, if favourable I could paint up a test Death Spectre this week.
