Is the mention of Karanak being an Elite choice in Deamons codex a typo?

OR

Is he an elite choice

OR

Does a unit of Hunds containing him count as an elite choice??

I've seen all three mentioned in various forums (fora??) as true

.... it could be a typo ... so we check the FAQ ... No mention of it; he and his unit count as elites rather then fast.

His unit type can be read both ways. Either a) he is fielded with a unit of flesh hounds [that are] picked as a normal elites choice or b) he is fielded with a unit of flesh hounds [and is] picked as a normal elites choice.

Reading "a)" makes his unit an elites, rather than FA choice.
Reading "b)" means that he is an elites choice, and his unit are FA.

Not sure if this is covered anywhere though. My best answer would be discuss w/ opponent.

you are a little off on those readings. The Reading options are:

Reading "a)" makes his unit an elites, rather than FA choice.
Reading "b)" He can never be taken because no flesh hounds of khorne are ever purchased "as a normal elites choice".

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I vote that it is definitely a typo. The use of the world 'normal' when describing them being taken as an Elites choice is what sells it to me.

In all likelihood at some point while writing the codex Flesh Hounds were an Elites choice and were then later moved into Fast Attack.

Its funny that I've never seen this pointed out before...probably because so few people actually use him!

Speaking for myself, every time I've fielded him I've just looked at the army list entry and not bothered to look on page 55.

Not that Karanak's really worth triple the cost of a regular hound...

I posted on a thread in tactics, and suggested a list could be made using him to allow using hounds in FA and Elite slots to make some sort of "fast" Korne army. I emailed a freind a list, and he suggested I misred the entry. If you read the entry in isolation, then I believe it means to take the unit as Elites. Howerver, the wording for the Changeling is virtually identical, except he is listed as "..taken as a normal troops choice..". I never twigged before...and now who knows??

Where can we find out for sure??

It's a typo on page 55. Someone go tell GW. Or, since you cannot select FH as Elite, he doesn't exist.

The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.
