The Knights of Redemption: Your Death Is Redemption!

The Knights of Redemption are a 21st Founding Astartes Chapter, born from the Geneseed of the Imperial Fists. The High Lords of Terra created the Chapter not only as a part of the Founding, but to safeguard a newly found system, the Ostien Cluster. Located nearby the Cadia System, its mineral rich worlds support a Mechanicus forge and an Imperial planet, which in turn supply Cadia with bodies for its wars and munitions for its . The most outward planet is the most intriguing world in this otherwise quite average cluster. On this long dead world, burnt to the ground in atomic fire and glassed by plasma exchange, an excavator team from the Mechanicus unearthed an armoured, hermetically sealed vault, evidence that this world was once home to humanity, before the Long Night of Strife. This marks the world as a priority for the Mechanicus.

The Knights of Redemption unlike most Chapters are bound by a collection of ancient articles known as the Charter, which acts a specialised Addendum to the Codex Astartes for the Knights. It dictates the number of Servants the Chapter may have, the number of fortresses and dictates courses of action with organisations such as the Inquisition and Mechanicus. Though its most important article demands that at least eighty percent of the Chapter must stay on station at Ostien Secundus. This has lead to some resentment, as the Chapter can only send token forces out to assist war efforts and campaigns. To compensate for this and to give most battle brothers combat experience out of their Company's rotations, they despatch brethren to join other Chapters for experience and to learn other methods of war and establish bonds with other more famous chapters.

So what does everyone think of this concept, and the colour scheme. I have nearly fifty Space Marines to remove paint from, and another fifteen to apply fresh coats to. I'll also be using a white undercoat to help bring out the colours and use a black wash to mask it.

personally i think the colours clash heavily.
but good luck though, i found that painting a half scheme is difficult.

Thank you for the frank opinions on the scheme. This blog will be a little sporadic as I start work, though I will attempt to update it once a week. I'm having a bit of an issue with my can of white primer, as it comes out quite thin and doesn't settle well on the model. Any suggestions or solutions? Is it that I haven't shaken the can well enough or is it simply an issue with GW's primer?

So, here's something I've been able to throw together in my free hours. (A job has been providing the funds for all my personal projects and minis!

Sternguard who will act as a test for my paint scheme. The white primer will hopefully make the colour scheme more vibrant, and the black wash will make the recesses naturally darker and mask any missed spots.

Next up is my build of Chaplain Zerel.

A quick detail shot of his skull pauldron, taken from a Chaos Marauder kit.

This is the first time photographing miniatures, so any tips would be appreciated for the future.

That colour scheme already is a chapter , i can't remember the name at the moment its something like blazing talons or blazing claws but the marines look good so far.

I thought the Brazen Claws were quartered rather than halved. Though if people confuse it with that, I will change the scheme to something more recogniseable.

Sorry about that. I was writing my correction when I first saw the uneditted reply then actually submitted afterwards.

My next update will include several of the Captains I have built, and two more Chaplains. I might also upload some concept sketches for you to judge.

I've been a little more busy than I anticipated, as I've managed to scrap together some captains for this build and I've written some crappy fiction. In no Particular order:

Ninth Captain Tagrol, Master of Ordinance
The wind picked up, plucking at the heavy cloak at his back. Tagrol was kneeling at the crest of a high hill overlooking his company's deployment. He murmured his final prayers, rose to feet and settled the laureled helmet on his head, sealing it with a hiss of pressure. This promised to be a day of glory for them all.

And an alternate build of him, with plasma pistol.

I'm kind of stuck cause I like both poses. The twin swords look like he's lopped the head off an adversary (nice diorama maybe), but the vambrace mounted plasma pistol looks like he's striding forward, burning all in his path.

Next up, Sixth Captain Valken, Master of Swords

His blade shrieked as he slammed its bloody edge into the chest of the Eldar champion he had bested. The alien gave an aggrieved cry of pain, shuddered and died. Valken heard bolter fire from his squads chatter behind him, and he knew he may have overextended himself into the ranks of the Xenos. A tall walker, long limbed and wreathed in ivory decoration gestured at him, and he grinned. "You next."

Better view of his Laurels and sword arm. His blade is rather ordinary, but its a tool for killing, not some fancy decorative blade so it fits him well.

I quite like him, with a regal pose and I always get the feeling he's grinning at me, despite the fact he's a lump of pewter and plastic.

Third Captain Feros, Storm Captain

The hammer swiveled in his grip, fingers idly turning the heavy weapon around to admire the eagle head that decorated the hammer's concussion plate. Swivel, swivel. Swivel, swivel. He hefted the shield up, smiled at it, and strode into the storm outside.

And him without his shield.

The Hammer head is made of an Eagle head from a Force Commander power pack and a Chaos Warrior Hammer. The head is from the Sanguinary Guard box, which is delicious for bits.

Fourth Captain Thane, Death Master

Plasma washed over the heretic's helmet, vaporising it and leaving the smouldering remains to hit the floor. His power fist swung, taking the head from another heretic. It was going to be a long day.

He's not very photogenic (although that might be me failing with the camera). I might change his head to one of the Sanguinary guard ones. He's also the only Captain to have paint at the moment.

All Four now!

What do you think?

Well, after a little thought, and realising that perhaps my Chapter scheme looked a little... clashing and uncoordinated. So I decided to take a few minutes to modify it, thus creating the laziest scheme I've ever seen (of course, if there's already a Space Marine Chapter in these colours, I'll have to change it. Again)

What do you think of the new scheme?

The new scheme is much better IMO than your old scheme! Good luck and have fun painting them!

As to the new color scheme, I think it looks pretty distinct, although it looks similar to the Sons of Orar Chapter + White Scars, but that is not really a bad thing. I hardly ever see thse armies anyway, so this is good.

Edit: I thought I was forgetting a chapter...

Your new scheme is mirrored Storm Lords.

I wouldn't mind that, however, after all, how many chapters are there that are just red? We still don't confuse them with Blood Angels or Blood Drinkers. Or even worse, there are several chapters that are exactly the same scheme as Ultramarines, even derived from their geneseed and using exactly the same markings with the exception of the chapter symbol.

So if you like the blue and red halved scheme, go with it. Brazen Claws are quartered, and even if they weren't, there could easily be two chapters with that same scheme, no problem at all.

I like your conversions, although I would start by painting a few normal troops, leaving characters as the 'reward'. But maybe that's just me.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

So, I've been away for a long, LONG time... And to think I was trying to keep this a weekly blog.

However, I do have some photos for you all!

First up is Captain Thane, modified and painted!

And the back!

And Captain Tagrol, Painted!

So I'm not completely dead, though very distracted at the moment.
