Bit of a switch around from last game, this time I'm using Tyranids and playing Shaun whose using Guard. He was going to try a list with triple Vendettas but his broke so he's using a Hellhound which makes his list identical to mine, lol.

Deployment

I won the roll off and went first. I deployed in my wall config with my army split between a ruin, Termagants in front then Hive Guard then the big guys, Genestealers outflank.

Shaun deployed a CCS, plasma Vet, melta Vet and Vendetta on the left flank. In the centre Manticore, melta Vets, plasma Vets, melta Vets and both Leman Russes. On the right flank the other CCS, HellHound and Vendetta.

* Tactical Notes

I''m going to go for the Vendettas first taking out ranged fire power, I'll use Genestealers to outflank and get the Russes until my monstrous creatures can lumber in and tackle them. After I'll go for the Chimeras, pop them and charge the Veterans with whatever I have.

Turn 1

Shaun attempts to steal the iniative and succeeds!

Shaun moves his Vendetta on the left flank 6" while the other turbo boosts towards me as Chimeras in the centre (all except one) mvoe forward. Both Russes move 6" forward as the rest hold position.

Shauns shooting turn his Manticore blasts some Termagants killing two and wounding a Hive Guard. His Vendetta fires at Hive Guard on the left flank chipping off a wound.

My turn I move forward my horde spawning as I go, but burning out a Tervigon in the process. I cast feel no pain on all Hive Guard units.

Shooting I immobilise the Vendetta on the left flank and shake a Chimera that's about it.

* Tactical Notes

Ok my first turn could have been better but at least two vehicles are not firing. Shauns first turn did well chipping wounds down, if he carries on I'm going to be losing Hive Guard soon..

Turn 2

Little movement from Shaun which sees the turbo boosted Vendetta move 6" towards me and the CCS on the right flank move through terrain but hide there as the Hellhound moves in ready to burn some Tyranid xeno scum.

Shooting Manticore blasts out getting 3 shots, they land on target killing a squad of Hive Guard and wounding a Tervigon. Another Hive Guard squad gets picked on with multi lasers one dies and one is left with a wound - the wounded Tervigon gets picked on leaving with 3 wounds after Leman Russ fire and lascannon fire. On the left flank a Hive Guard takes a wound from a lascannon shot.

Tyranids turn I call for reserves and a single 'Stealer unit outflanks on the right side coming in terrain by the CCS Chimera. Rest of the Tyranids move up, I spawn some Termagants burning out both remaining Tervigons. I cast feel no pain on all Hive Guard squads.

Shooting I blast the immobilised Vendetta and score another weapon destroy results, that's only a single lascannon left on it. I shake the same Chimera and stun another one on the centre of the board. I manage to shake the Vendetta on the right flank.

In assault Genestealers charge and immobilise the CCS Chimera. Termagants charge the Hellhound and stun it.

* Tactical Notes

Ok I'm not wrecking stuff but I'm shaking or stunning stuff so setting them up for next turn plus they're not shooting at me either, which is good.

Some mistakes though. Shaun fired his Chimera when it was crew shaken and I forgot about feel no pain, doh
!

Turn 3

Shaun brings one of his melta Veteran squads from the left down, the tanks rotates and the squad bails out ready to unleash melta into my Carnifex. Squads from stunned and shaken Chimeras bail out ready to unleash melta death.

Shooting meltas and Manticore wipe out two squad of Hive Guard and leave a single Hive Guard behind with a single wound!

In combat 'Stealers wreck the CCS Chimera.

I call for reserves and Genestealers outflank on the right side again but heading towards a Leman Russ. Tyranids reposition with Termagants moving over to support a Carnifex in blasting a melta squad while other Termagants aim at Veterans.

Shooting melta squad on the left flank gets blasted by devourers and fleshborers from Termagants and Carnifex, they pass morale, is that good? lol. Other two melta squads get blasted by units of Termagants and another gets blasted by the Tyrants paroxysm, the squad fails morale from the Tyrants single devourer shot and runs away as a Tervigon fails to damage a Chimera with stinger salvo but the other Carnifex blasts the squad which fallen back taking them under half strength so they cannot do a regroup test next turn.

In assault melta squad gets munched on by the Carnifex, Termagants chop down a unit of Guardsmen in combat via sweeping advance, Genestealers lose combat against the CCS leaving the Commander with a single wound they fall back 5". Other Genestealers immobilise and crew stun the Leman Russ. Tervigon charges the Vendetta which Shaun forgot to move and wrecks it.

* Tactical Notes

Ok I think things have changed around here and it's because Shaun got his squads out the tanks. One squad got blasted by the Carnifex and Termagants, the Sgt survived but the Carnifex ate him. Another squad got mauled by Super-Termagants while another got blasted by the Tyrant and Carnifex making them run off, as they're under 50% starting strength they cannot regroup. A Vendetta is also down and a Russ will no doubt be down next turn, shame the 'Stealers lost combat but lets face it the Commander isn't getting away!

Next turn I'll kill the Commander, take out the Russ, take out two Chimeras close by and move the Carnifex to take out the immobilised Vendetta.

Turn 4

Shaun moves one of his empty Chimeras back towards the top left of his table while the other two empty Chimeras fall back, that's about it.

Shooting Manticore rains down but fails to kill the Hive Guard, multi lasers blast out and finish it off.

In assault Genestealers wreck the Leman Russ.

In my turn Genestealers move through terrain to get at the Commander while the other squad goes for the other remaining Russ as two Tervigons follow up the rear with Termagants. Termagants and a Tervigon move to a empty Chimera while a Carnifex and Tyrant follow the other one as the solo Fex goes towards the immobilised Vendetta.

Shooting 'Fex fires at the Vendetta and takes out the last weapon, other Carnifex and Tyrant fire at a empty Chimera and score weapon destroyed and immobilised. Termagants blast side armour of a Chimera but do nothing.

In assault 'Fex smashes the Vendetta and wrecks it, Tervigon and 'Gants immobilise and shake the Chimera while Genestealers kill the Commander and wreck the other Russ.

* Tactical Notes

Well it's going well for the Tyranids now. The right flank is secured and the centre flank is folding, I may have sent that solo Carnifex to its death but it wasn't doing a fat lot and that's something else destroyed.

Plan is to assault the plasma Veterans which have been hiding against Shauns board edge in the centre in their tank and tackle both empty Chimeras.

Turn 5

Shaun moves a Chimera down and fires some Termagants while the solo Carnifex gets plasma in the face, the plasma Veteras hiding out the back move away while the Manticore comes out to deal some damage, but doesn't do anything as nothing in range. In combat the Tervigon totals the Chimera.

My turn Genestealers run towards the plasma Veteran Chimera as the Tervigon moves to the Manticore and Termagants follow into terrain as the Carnifex and Tyrant go towards the empty Chimera. Both empty Chimeras are wrecked in combat and the plasma Veteran Chimera is totalled as well.

We call it a game due to time, though no one actually won due to no mission (which I guess we should have played) Shaun declared me the winner, which I'll take on morale grounds lol after all he only had two tanks left and three squads - all surrounded by Tyranids!

Summary

Good game by Shaun as he's still learning as he hasn't been playing for many months. He got his target priority right by killing my Hive Guard (which took a lot of punishment) and my Tervigons which took wounds. His down fall was getting those squads out the tanks which allowed me to kill three squads in a single turn. He also held back several units for no reason, if he had of brought those forward he could have issued orders and for example killed the Carnifex with mass fire power instead of hanging the Guardsmen out to dry. He also should have held his Vendettas and Russes tank instead of moving them forward, other that he did ok.

Your bat reps are always an interesting read and your tactical notes are spot on. A point of confusion for me with this report was that it seemed as though you wrecked some of your opponents vehicles in assault during his turn. It was sometimes hard to tell when his turn ended and yours began, so it could be that I misread it.
