So the other day I was skimming through TVTropes (yeah, THAT TVTropes) and I read something about a movie called Event Horizon and something about 40k fans taking it as a prequel. Personally, I haven't seen the movie, but as I read, I found certain... similarities.
Spoiler:
In the year 2047, a signal from the starship Event Horizon is picked up on Earth. The ship had disappeared without trace beyond Neptune in 2040. The ship has reappeared in a decaying orbit around the planet Neptune, and the rescue ship Lewis and Clark is dispatched to investigate. The ship's crew is commanded by Capt. Miller (Laurence Fishburne) and carries the Event Horizon's designer, Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill).
No definitive trace of human life is found; inconclusive sensor readings lead the Lewis and Clark's crew to enter the Event Horizon to search for survivors. Things start to go very wrong very quickly, it appears that someone or something is toying with them, and more, the question is what has the Event Horizon become?
It shows some seriously Chaos-y imagery and I wanted to know what DakkaDakka thinks about it.
EDIT: Sorry for the spoilers guys. Totally forgot about it.

It's damn weird is what it is...
You might wanna stick the plot in spoilers.
It is very similar to Chaos nutcasery... though that does just involve them going crazy which is what apparently happened in the movie...
Okay yeah the entire thing reeks of Chaos and such so go figure... it's a good idea for a movie and it's a good part of 40k they just happen to be excessively similar... not that that's a bad thing.

I completely agree. It definitely seemed like a corrupted Space Hulk that should be atomized by the Emperor's Holy Inquisition. All Imperial citizens that may have witnessed this abomination must unfortunately be put to the flame.

I've always considered Event Horizon to be a perfect example of how the warp works and over the years I would have to agree that many other people have had the same thoughts.

It's perfect for the Warhammer universe. The Event Horizon has a very detailed, Gothic design that's rather at odds with the usual NASA/Star Wars/Aliens paradigm of starship design. At one point the place the ship traveled to is even described as a realm of "pure Chaos, pure evil."
This, folks, is why in the Imperial Navy we have Gellar fields and routine inspections for ideological deviance.

To be fair, Chaos was meant to be fairly Lovecraftian when they first thought it up (the cultists almost behave the same even now), but that has been diluted over the years (possibly thanks to Chaos Space Marines?).
I agree, an excellent representation of warp corruption on an unprotected vessel. then again, I usuall y find some way to relate movies to 40k, I spent all of transformers 1 and 2 pretending the autobots and decepticons were space marines and chaos space marines.

+1 and well said sir.
800 brethren and 2,000 other personnel were expected to reach Crows World within no more than 12 hours. They never arrived.
