Just to be clear, but in a unit of Boyz, 1 can be upgraded to a Nob, but not a Mek or painboy? That is to say, my Ork boys will never be lead by a mek or painboy, only my Nobs (who function together as a unit)?

Thanks for the help

Yeah that's basically right, unless they're led by a Big Mek, or Mad Dok Grotsnik. Both of which act as IC's.

Yes, and no.

In a unit of boyz, one boy may be upgraded to a nob and may be given the equipment listed. However, he will always be a part of that boyz unit. There is a seperate entry for nobs, which are taken as their own unit. So, you can have a unit of boyz with 1 mob and/or a unit of 3-10 nobz. The nobz unit, while having a different statline and wargear, is a unit in the same manner that the boyz are a unit.

The only characters that Orkz have that can join other units during the game are the HQ selections. So if you take a warboss, big mek, wierdboy, or one of the named hq's, you can attach them to a unit because they all have the Independant Character rule.

Characters such as Snikrot are taken as a squad upgrade in the same manner that a nob is taken as a squad upgrade, and do not have the Independant Character special rule. So they are always tied to their unit, even if they are the only left alive at some point.

If you shell out many dollars for Imperial Armour 8:The Raid on Kastorel-Novem, you will have access to an Ork list in which the boyz are lead by Meks instead of Nobs.

You will soon realize that this is a VERY bad thing.

Fortunately, the Dred Mob list has some compensation for the nerfed boyz mob. These include the ability to field up to fifteen Killa Kans and fifteen Deff Dreds, to say nothing of Meka Dreds and Mega Dreds.
