Gudday Dakka,

Thought I'd post up here as I work through my current projects. Your comments and criticism invited
Having never really played the game I don't really know how to build an army so I'm just getting stuff that looks good to me and hopefully one day I can actually go out and play with my fully painted models
If you have suggestions as to what I should be adding to this army please let me know.

So anyways, I'm currently working on-
1. An army of Warriors of Chaos (approx 1.5-2k points worth so far?)
2. A set of Dragon princes (high elves) No intention to collect more HE's but I really like these models
3. A few other random mini's but I will be mostly focused on the above

So Without further ado, let me introduce the WoC sofar-
Chaos lord on Juggernaught
10 chaos knights
10 demon wolvey thingyies
5 chosen command
An Archron and grot... WTH they doing in there?

My freshly GS'd Chosen command champion (I cut off his tentacle,I'm just not a tentacle guy) This was actually alot harder to do than I thought it was going to be..
Gone for the ól angry shaking fist look

The Command group, just cause they are cool

And my WiP Dragon prince mount. I've gone for a NON-blue High elf look mainly cause I'm not a conformist and because I wanted to try out my yellow paints.
What do you think of the gold? Should I just go with GW's shining gold or keep doing what I'm doing? (not sure why the photo color has gone orange in places? Bad auto-adjust bad!)

Still sitting on my kitchen table are a pile of pieces to make marauders and chaos warriors, hopefully soon i'll get my hands on a demon prince (for some magic user goodness?), some more chosen and more warriors.
If you have idea's on conversions and stuff for any of these models please speak up! Particularly the marauders seem to all be very similar in pose and have the same heads and stuff, so i'm planning on making a few head swaps maybe trying to change poses (assuming my gs skills don't defeat me) and yea generally enjoying myself while doing it

I had a wicked idea to scratchbuild/kitbash some Chaos spawns so that will be exciting when I get around to trying it out...

Bases I'm planning on cutting up a whole box of (Tombking?) skeles or zombies and have them coming out of snow.... or something like that

That's all for now, thanks for looking
Lepto.

Looking good, and a nice (and unusual) scheme for your HE.

I like the beginning of your high elves. The white and yellow is especially good. The gold looks good, but flat- I think you need to make it pop a little more to get it to work. But otherwise, I very much like.

It's well and truly time to update this thread..

I have been very busy with work and stuff but I have some progress...

My army is almost fully assembled!! (Although I grabbed some maruaders and another lot of warriors in April that are sitting in boxes)

I also bought this guy - he isn't finished yet but getting there...

from what I'm reading he will be to expensive (points wise) to actually field in a game but I like the model

I moved his wings and reshaped the muscles in his back...
I tried to do a flame job on his sword but it looked horrible so ended up with what you see..

More pics and stuff coming of the other stuff I have been doing (It's a long weekend so I have no excuse)

So, my camera isn't playing the game today - 2 sets of batteries and I barely have usable pictures
I'm hungover as my buddy had his going away party last night (off to Afghanistan with the Aus army - May he return safely!)
Hopefully I can string some coherent sentences together...

I thought I'd list out where this army has been heading since my original post.
It has definitely grown somewhat and now includes-

Demon prince (pictured earlier)
Chaos Lord on Juggernaught
10 Chaos Knights
15 Wolves
10 Chaos Chosen
2 Exaulted Champions - These guys are awesome one is from avatars of war the other is a banelord from Maelstrom.
24 Warriors (12 built - 12 still in box)
52 Marauders (20 pretty much built)

I really didn't want to just smash the models together and be done with them. Being the plastic gold that they are I won't be able to easily go out and purchase another army in a hurry... I'm putting in a fair amount of effort to really make this army my own individual piece of work.
No single miniature will be exactly the same as another. Even if the only difference is something simple like a head swap or battle damage (part of a helmet horn cut off or damage to armour actually modeled not just painted on).
Just cleaning mold lines off all the individual parts is very time consuming for me (I think I keep getting very low quality boxes from GW). Something else that I considered while making these guys was durability, being the clumsy oaf that I am, I decided to not model any of these guys with flails as they look to be much weaker than swords/axes - the last thing I want to be doing is reattaching weapons every time I drop a model...
Spoiler:
Sample Of Marauders - note no two heads are the same and small battle damage etc..

For my Warriors I kind of gave up on individualizing each one as they don't have enough parts to customize easily, although they all needed greenstuffing along the join in the cloak fur (along the top) so I spent a fair amount of time tooling GS fur to blend in the gaps. Great opportunity to further play with GS and learn how to work it
Spoiler:
The greenstuffed parts of the fur are more shiny for reason?

I also got kicked off the kitchen table by the "Minister of Finance" and I now have a new workspace in the garage! It is currently a mess and pretty much just dumped there but eventually I will tidy it up and create an orderly workspace... The only problem with this area is the garage has no window so I have no natural light or ventilation :(
Spoiler:

I have also been playing around with basing materials and I will have something to show you guys in the next update (hopefully not in 4 months time , lol)

Currently I may be in the running for the slowest army build in history (I originally started this army in August '10) but I am making progress! It has been a huge learning curve and in general I have been enjoying myself

Something that I could really use help with is how to make these guys so that they all fit together (base to base) neatly! Especially the knights - the models are to fat for the bases.... Any tips?

Take it easy

Glad you like him!! Painting him was pretty easy, I started with flat black undercoat
The body - base coat mechrite red (foundation), paint scab red then highlight blood red, wash with badab black then re-highlight with blood red.
wing membranes - undercoated foundation red then washed black until they were significantly darker than the skin tone
Horns and stuff I painted codex grey and tried to blend to bleached bone at the ends (which I failed at) then successively washed with black and Devlan mud until they were a nice dark brown/black shade..

Putting him together was fun, I'm glad I took the time to move his wings and add damage to the membranes, I think I got the look I was after.
When painting I tried to keep in mind the light source was directly overhead so anywhere the light would be hitting him should be brighter (eg. top of head) than the undersides.
It was my first attempt at doing this, so overall I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.
