I decided to try out some rough riders in my IG army, but as I'm sure you all know the old GW models are hideous, so I decided to follow the lead of others and make my own.

I originally bought a load of cheap Cold One lizards from e-bay, but couldn't get the pose and look I wanted without having to use lots of greenstuff (I'm rubbish with it) so I gave it up until i went into my FLGS yesterday and saw a kid building some Wood Elves glade riders. These were the mounts I was looking for!

I stumped up the cash, took a box of them home, and assembled my ingredients:

1x Wood elves glade riders
1x Cadian command squad spare bitz (arms & pouches)
4x Cadian shock troops spare bitz (arms & pouches)
1x Shadowforge IG female conversion kit
1x Pack of 28mm metal pikes
Some spare sprue, plasticard and the copper core from thin co-axial cable (I use it at work)

After a bit of messing about, I've managed to get just the look I wanted. Three riders done so far, five more in progress. The riders are sitting a bit funny as they are just blu-tacked to the horses, not glued, as i want to paint them seperately and I will be altering these slightly by adding some light riding tack etc as a final step before glueing them together.

Anyway, here they are, all images are hosted here so zoomable if clicked on.

The Sarge, with plasma pistol. VERY happy with how this turned out!:

Rough rider 1. After looking at the pics I will repose the head tilted back slightly more I think:

Rough rider 2:

Group shots of ones I've finished so far:

I'll update this as I go and pop a thread in the P&M showcase once they are finished and painted.

Well done! I'm using bikes for mine, but lances on bikes don't make a lot of sense. I try not to think about it, but I should've used these horses. They look pretty awesome.

These are absolutely great...
I've been knocking around ideas about how to build a rough rider unit for my Praetorians and I hope you don't mind..but I'm going to definitely use your idea (with some variations).

Very very cool.

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

I like them alot! However, I would put them on bike bases just to tie them in more with the 40k look.

Although, I'm one of those guys that likes uniform bases.

I like them, especially the lances.

Agreed, nice movement. Better than the 'standing and looking around' look that most go for.

Those are fantastically well done. The slightly smaller torsos fit well with the elfy bits

Now the challenge is to transport them without bending their lances

Bit more done, made some tack and I have painted one of the horses in it's IG colours. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the others.

Need to tidy the base out once the basing & static grass is dry.

Really really nice... love these! Good to see some more rough riders about too, I'm messing about with some Tallarn ones myself and they don't half take a long time to sort out!

Nice scratch-built lances, and great idea to use female torsos to match the slender elven legs. Looking forward to seeing the finished results

Have you managed to do any more to these guys?
I made a squad of Catachan jungle fighter rough riders,i had to leave the spears as they wouldn't be much use in the jungle.Have a look at them and let me know what you think.

Hey Shing. They're my next unit to finish, I have a part-painted squad of 5 that have been sat on a shelf for a month or more!
I can't find your rough riders in your gallery though to have a look?
