Hi,
I guess many people don't like the new Dreadknight from the upcoming Grey Knight Codex. So let's look for alternatives, as the unit is rumoured to be powerful ruleswise.

Personally I am at a loss as I can't think of conversions of this model that can save it. There also are no obvious GW or non-GW alternatives that I can think of.

First weak idea is the OOP Armorcast Battletech "Mad Cat":

Or something with robot toys? Problem is they shouldn't look like Tau or Necron things. Ideas?

But less stupid.
Someone who has one of these, get out the plasticard and bitz!

edit: I mean I hadn't seen the Dreadknight, not the Madcat. Madcats rock.

Another idea: Dreamforge Games will eventually make a 15mm scale version of this 8.5-9.5" high 300$ model, so be around 4.5" high. Look will fit! See this thread for updates: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/347738.page

I think the dreadknight would look much better with a venerable dreadnought style body, rather than an open pilot.

Well, looking at the other suggestions in other threads, someone else said that putting the sarcophagus section of a dreadnought may make the model look better.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I made this Knight Titan out of a defiler and some bits I had printed out. I'm making a full model in 3ds max right now to finish up my household. Wouldn't be too hard just to scale everything down to 5" instead of 7 1/2"

That Madcat is way too big. A 15mm scale version of that giant "not titan" would work pretty well.

Well, no wonder Kroothawk has no idea to "save" it, him openly disliking Marines in general. ^^ But I applaud the effort. It might help the haters.

The Dreamforge Crusader is an awesome suggestion in my opinion. I like its look a lot. It suffers from the round armorplate bias but looks enough like an actual Greyknight in large to probably be okay in that. For me it is. Price might be an issue, but that will remain to be seen.

I have no suggestion of my own at this point besides converting the original. Using the Carapace of a Venerable Dread might help with the harness.

Now seriously: Here an OOP model by Starship Trooper Miniatures (Mongoose), the Ape:

Khurasan Miniatures has this 10cm high model (meant for 15mm, here with 28mm miniatures):

I plan on modeling a marine wreathed in a semi-anthropomorphic pillar of warpflame, roughly the same height. But that is for my PH Thousand Sons army, not Grey Knights per se.

I personally like the idea of a dreadnought carapace tacked to the front.
Might just tack on one of those furioso librarian dread plates on it. i think that would be dandy

A bit of amor added to the front which hides the harness the Space Marine is in seems to go laong way to improving the look of the model. To me, that's the most glaring problem....I don't mind the aesthetic too much. In fact I quite like it. It's just the way the Marine is being held in place doesn't quite work for me.

That would mostly work, then you could use the curved parts that go on the front of the dreadnought's legs to cover up the hollows on the upper thighs of the dreadknight.

Just found a nice selection of Jokaero inspired alternative models over at Warseer:

Just a pic, but I LOLed:

Now seriously, my favorite will be the 15mm scale version of the Dreamforge Crusader, being about the same size and price as the Dreadknight.

Other alternative is this Dust Tactics model:
