I have decided to start an imperial fists army once I have finished school and I am not entirely sure on the paint scheme. I will definitely do some test minis but I just want to hear your ideas. I definitely want to use a black primer and then maybe iyadun darksun with sunburst then some kind of ink wash?? Any sugestions welcome.

Worth a go if you have the patience.

1. Prime Black
2. Iyanden Darksun
3. Gryphonne Sepia Wash
4. Premix an empty pot equal quantities of Iyanden Darksun and Golden Yellow ( Just dump one into the other seeing as GW only half fill pots!) This ensures a uniform yellow across a unit/army
5. Apply the premix, leaving some of the washed Iyanden for shading
6. Highlight with a touch of skull white plus premix.

Photo follows - ignore the mess. Work in progress and hasn't been cleaned up yet.

Nice thanks phayse! I will try that out on some test minis! Btw your fists look awesome the yellow is really consistent and bold! Have you painted any other fists??

Gathering the Informations.

One thing I've seen work exceedingly well is basecoating with a mixture of Iyanden Darksun and Scorched Brown.

It gives it a more 'realistic' yellow tone than just bright yellow does.

Yeah I have heard that before. I am probably going to buy a combat squad and try out a different scheme on each! Cheers for the suggestion!

On a 1:1 basis?

Do you have any examples of that basecoat. Been thinking about using that as my basecoat for vehicles.

Yes, though nothings finished as yet. Need to get around to cleaning them up a little and basing. Captain is WIP which has now been sitting for a week waiting to be finished. Second pic is a test mini, weathering. All in all I have 3 tac squads in various states of "not finished", a stripped redeemer, and some terminators. I've got an assault squad stripping.

Technically, they ain't fisties, but I haven't figured out my icons yet, they're loosely based on the knightly orders. Also need to get some iconography and components 3d printed for larger models and vehicles.

Not readily at hand, no. I'm pretty sure that's how at least one person here on Dakka did his IFs though.

I little brighter than the others:

Base coat white
About 2 coats of watered down golden yellow
Wash with sepia
Highlight with sunburst yellow

And you will have:

"No pity. No remorse. No fear." - Black Templar battle cry

"Heroes of Armageddon! You have withstood the evil savagery of the Orks, and they have nothing left for you to fear. So raise high the black banners of vengeance - now is our time." - Commissar Yarrick

@MEanBob that mini is awesome!! I love the "dirty" affect. For that do you just do a heavy sepia wash??
