My local gaming shop hosts an event where you bring a 750 pt list and get paired up with a random teammate who also has a 750 pt list, and you switch teammates each round. It's supposed to encourage new players and help them learn the rules. That'd be me, brand new to 40k, scrambling to build models in time for the event.
I apologize in advance if my list is awful, because I have no idea what I'm doing.
The List - 749/750 pts
HQ
Big Mek - Power Klaw, Kustom Force Field, Cybork Body, Attack Squig, Boss Pole
Troops
20 Boyz - Nob, Power Klaw, Boss Pole
19 Boyz - Nob, Power Klaw
Heavy Support
Battlewagon - armor plates, deffrolla, red paint job
Battlewagon - armor plates, deffrolla, red paint job
Thoughts?

Overall not too bad considering most opponents will struggle at such a low point level.

Battlewagon - armor plates, deffrolla, red paint job
Battlewagon - armor plates, deffrolla, red paint job
Nice and cheap but you need a big shoot aremember stunned becomes immobilised without it
Thoughts?
you will also be able to squeeze in a little bit more into the list with points saved
This is what I would recommend. Hope that helps

Is it better to have the Grot Riggers than Red Paint Job? I figured having the extra inch of movement would help me get into CC faster, but I guess Grot Riggers would give my wagons a little more survivability. I'll have to see about getting some warbuggies, do they have to turn to face to fire twin linked rockets or is that mounted in such a way that they can swivel and fire? I was going to try to see if I could squeeze some deffcoptas in instead, but I feel like dropping boyz would not be good since I have so little infantry already.

Riggers > Paintjob
But, imho, if you're going for pt values below 1k (unless youre dead set on running the wagons) I'd say be boring and throw as many bodies as possible on the board.
Go for a KFF Mek w/ Cybork and 3 or 4 mobs of boys w/ PK nobs (within pt values). I just don't trust running tanks at such low points, cause when one goes boom you'll lose more almost 1/5 of you're points right there, not including wound casualties from the explosion from those embarked.
10 grot mobs as a screen would be cheaper than a single battlewagon, and give you +4 cover on the slog at the price of one BW. just be ready to make up the kill points with your boys.
Not saying mines a good idea, or that yours is bad. Its just different view on low points. Either way, I hope you have a blast, and kill some Humies for me!

Try this (for a green horde): Big Mek with KFF (85) 30 Boyz including Pole Klaw Nob (220) 30 Boyz including Pole Klaw Nob (220) 15 Lootas (225) [or 3 x 5, it doesn't matter] Plenty of dakka supporting a decently sized green horde under a KFF.

I would take red before riggers....only because the riggers might fix the bw, red will always give you one extra inch

So because of these are models that I have already (all of which I want to build and paint before the event) I'm thinking I might go with this list. I replaced the Warbuggies with Deff Koptas just because I have 3 Deff Koptas and 0 Warbuggies in my current collection.
Big Mek, Kustom Force Field, Cybork Body, Shoota/Rokkit Kombi-Weapon (100pts)
Troops (320pts)
2x 20x Ork Boyz Nob, Bosspole, Power Klaw
Fast Attack (90)
Deff Kopta, Twin-linked Rockets
Deff Kopta, Twin-linked Rockets
Heavy Support (240pts)
2xBattle Wagon Big Shoota, Deff Rolla, Grot Riggers (or Red Paint Job I'll see if I can try it out before the tournament)

I'd take armour before Red or Riggers. Keeps you moving on those pesky 2s, and is incredibly demoralizing when 1/3 of the results garner effectively nothing for your opponent.
Two wagons sounds good, but yeah, go with the Shootas on them. And try outflanking at least one of the Koptaz, can be really useful as long as they actually come in on time.
And remember, (this is something everyone forgets) you cannot take both a Kombi-weapon and a KFF. Mek only gets a single slugga to trade away, remember.

2x 20x Ork Boyz Nob, Bosspole, Power Klaw
Fast Attack (90)
Deff Kopta, Twin-linked Rockets

That's a pretty solid list, personally i always give my deffkoptas buzzsaws, but at this points level i guess it'd be hard to find that 50pts. You have a nice fast list, that should give your opponent minimal shooting time, and he'll struggle to pop that A14 at this points level in that time. Nice Work

Thanks, now to build my units and play a few games so I know some of the rules!
Edit: and yeah I really wanted to get some buzzsaws on those koptas but it gets expensive quick!

Could possibly swap out the rokkits on the coptas (I know, Heresy!) for basic Big Shootaz, which'd save you about twenty points. Get rid of a single boy, and you'd have enough for one Buzzsaw in the coptas. Only thing in that is that you'd be swapping the Koptas from anti-mech to anti-infantry, like a really fast nob with PK, only able to take attacks of opportunity against tanks. (Though if you get rear armour, and the Big Shoota's Str 4 (5?), twin linked with Assault 3...)
Actually, that's something I've almost never seen, is Deffcoptas being used as fast moving anti-infantry, like, well, flying Bikers (which is essentially what they are.)

This is kind of a silly suggestion, but consider this, at <1,000 pts most armies will be infantry based, lack heavy armour vehicles, and posses few light armour vehicles. What is one of the most fun things to do with an infantry list? Blow its squads away swiftly and decisively with vehicles that it cannot hope to kill. I suggest you take this Orkz 750pts "feth YOU!" List HQ: Big Mek; KFF - 85pts Troops: 20 Shoota Boyz; Nob, PK - 155pts 20 Shoota Boyz; Nob, PK - 155pts Elites: 10 Burna Boyz - 150pts Fast Attack: Deffkopta; TL-Rokkits - 45pts Deffkopta; TL-Rokkits - 45pts Heavy Support: Battlewagon; Deffrolla, Big Shoota - 115pts If you want to feel free to drop the Deffkoptas for more Burna Boyz, but honestly just 10 of them will do the magic at this point level. Remember to keep the squads running until the Burnawagon hits the enemy, then they can start shooting, be conservative with the 'koptas and focus on the lower AV vehicles. The beauty of this is that even if your opponent blows 450 points on the Terminator + Landraider combo, you will sweep it away with a ram andlaugh at the Terminators as they do the "burny dance"!

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
Lets settle this in the arena http://pantsformer.mybrute.com |
