Are we commenting on the work of a beginner, long-time painter, etc?

The basics are all excellent - paint not too thick, good control of where the colour has gone etc...

It looks like there are one ot two places where a little more prep work may have helped, but overall, there are no obvious flash lines or anything.

Personally, I think I'd like to see at least one more final highlight on the purple and blue, as it looks just a tiny bit flat at the moment. Not bad, don't get me wrong, just a short step away from finished.

The main thing I'd like to see is slightly better photography so we can see the details more clearly. Setting up some white sheets of paper under and behind the model, with natural light shining in through the window would give a much better image.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

It may be just the photo but I'd have a starker hard edge highlight for the purple. Mix in some Bleached Bone or Dheneb Stone and do the very edges.

Other than that it looks good, purple isn't easy to get right.

Your telling me lol. The highlights are a bit understated but they look better in real life.

I'd use some kind of color on the spirit-stone-ish bumps on his shoulder vane. And I feel like the purple is too flat, but it may just be the picture.
And maybe some kind of pattern on his 'face'.

Looks great aside from those picky bits, though.
