I recently got back into WH40k after about a 15 year hiatus. I played Orks back then, but didn't want to collect an Ork army again (so to speak) so I opted for Nids.

This was my first model I painted after my hiatus. I bought cheap poster paints at my local craft store.

I ordered a box a Termagaunts and Hormagaunts first and started with them. I didn't like the first color scheme so I stripped them and tried for another that I found a little more natural.

One thing that I did notice after I finished painting was how unclean the models looked. I had flash lines and extra pieces here and the faces looked bifurcated. It's a bit too late to fix now, so I'll just start cleaning better from here on out. I'm working on assembling a box of Genestealers now and will be updating once they're done.

Here is a Broodlord Model I tweaked from the bits in the Genestealer box. It's basically a Genestealer with a Ripper head, rending claws and scything talons.

The remained of my army has been ordered and should arrive in about 2-3 weeks. I will post new pics once the rest of my Hormagaunts are finished (2-3 days) and my Genestealers (3-5 days).

I also have decided to work on my basing after seeing a great thread on bases for the Daemonhunters army. I plan to fully base my Genestealers as a start. Thanks for the inspiration.

NOTE: I will also be posting my army list which is 1,000 points. I would greatly appreciate any critique for painting, list building or overall design. Thanks again and I will keep this blog updated.

1000 Pts - Tyranids Roster

16 Hormagaunt Brood, Fleshborers

18 Termagant Brood, Devourers

15 Genestealer Brood, 1 Broodlord

3 Tyranid Warrior Brood, Deathspitters

Hive Tyrant
Lash Whip & Bonesword; Heavy Venom Cannon

2 Hive Guard Brood

I will be expanding this army to 1,500 points after I finish the first 1,000 points.

I will be adding an additional Hive Guard and a Tervigon.

Aside from those two models, I'm not sure what else to add or tweak. I think I'll eventually land at 1,750 points with a few additional models added for army adjustments.

Your ideas and thoughts would be most appreciated. I have found the Tactika here to be most invaluable.

Looking good, it's nice to see you critique your own stuff! ;-) I like the second scheme much better than the first, it looks cleaner and not as thick on the models, just paint the eyes black and the teeth bone or white and you're in business!

Thanks for the suggestion mate. I've painted the teeth denim stone and think black would look great with the eyes.

I've almost finished the rest of my Hormagaunts and will be posting them asap. I'm also doing a stage shot of my first mycetic spore, I think it's coming along ok. I just wish the glue would hurry up and dry so I can paint the blasted thing.

My first attempt at bases didn't come out too good, but it's a start. I'll throw them on here too once the horms are done. Should be uploaded tomorrow.

New Mexico. Look, a UFO!

Subbed. Always fun to see other people's Nid ideas. And yours look pretty good so far!

Nice simple painting scheme, now paint 100 more gaunts for the tervigon
I would suggest bright red or Warlock Purple for the eyes. And it is Deneb Stone, not Denim Stone, even when your models are blue

BTW maybe you can get some inspiration from my blog (see sig), which has a similar painting scheme with green instead of blue.

The start of my first Mycetic Spore.

The hormagaunts are coming!

Now I just need to paint the black ring around the base to finish them up.

Some basing attempts for my Genestealers. Erm, I think I need more practice.

Nearly completely Broodlord, awaiting basing.

Well this beats all I've ever seen. My package apparently has lost its way somewhere in the warp. Maybe it'll arrive next week. I've called the store and they said it was set to arrive last Saturday.

I'll keep the blog updated as soon as more models come in. I've finished the three boxes I have now.

The last few shots were of my finished Genestealers and my attempts at basing other than just using sand.
