On March 12 I participated in an outstanding tournament put on by the Boston-area club, Dorka Morka (awesome guys). Anyway, part of their requirements for the tournament were that you try to field a "fluffy"/themed army, and provide fluff/background about it.

They also took some outstanding photos of entries into their painting contest, and my posting said photos over in a P&M Showcase thread led to discussion about my fluff. So I'm posting the army list, complete with fluff, here. Results of the tournament to follow

Nemesis
A 1750point Fallen Angels (Codex: Chaos Space Marines) army

What though the field be lost?
All is not lost; th’ unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield.
---Paradise Lost. Book i. Line 105.

Sonorous metal blowing martial sounds:
At which the universal host up sent
A shout that tore hell’s concave, and beyond
Frighted the reign of Chaos and old Night.
---Paradise Lost. Book i. Line 540.

The Eye of Terror is a blasphemy upon the universe which no mortal mind can fully comprehend. Strange daemonic and mortal elements from across a thousand light years and tens of thousands of sidereal years are to be found within. Worlds where a normal mortal could live, despite their utter spiritual corruption; and worlds where blood rains from the ground into the sky, where it burns in a cloudscape made of fire. Some creatures there are nothing more than gibbering madness given flesh and form, and some others have minds all too purposeful, full of dark intent.

Within the Eye of Terror there are also many factions. Some serve the gods of Chaos willingly, some unwillingly, and some fight defiantly even against the gods. Even among the former servants of the Emperor, there are those who have turned devotedly to the darkness, and those who have not and are truly Renegade from all sides.

The band of traitors known to the Dark Angels as Nemesis is a small faction unto itself. Comprised almost completely of Fallen, supplemented by a small number of renegade and traitor marines who have come across since the Fall, they dwell within the Eye of Terror and strike out, when they can, into mortal space. In recent years they have been playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with a Dark Angels detachment operating on the edge of the Eye. The forces are near-mirrors, with only minor differences in equipment and battle organization. They have so far clashed only inconclusively, but the presence of the other has led them each into strange battles with other Chaos and Loyalist forces which thought they were encountering one group, only to find their twin. Each faction continues to seek revenge and redemption, and within the vastness of the Warp, both provoke the laughter of dark gods…

HQ
Lord Uriel Ascendent
Daemon Prince (110), Wings (20), Warp Time (25) = 155
Once a chaplain of the Dark Angels before the fall, Uriel has been granted the powers and immortality of a Daemon Prince. He owes allegiance to no one god, preferring the Glory of Chaos Undivided.

Heretical Librarian Raphael
Chaos Sorcerer (100), Jump Pack (20), Mark of Slaanesh (5), Personal Icon (5), Lash of Submission (20) = 150
Raphael was a Librarian of the Dark Angels until a mere three centuries ago, when he was seduced by the power and pride of Slaanesh, and became a renegade. He is not one of the original Fallen, but is a perfect match for their spite and hatred.

Elite
The “Deathwing”
5 Chaos Terminators (150), w/Chain Fist (15), Heavy Flamer (5), 3x Combi-Melta (15) = 185
Among the most veteran and bitter of the Fallen are these foul souls, who have mockingly donned the colors (and remnant pieces of the armor) of those who hunt them.

Feared Brother Domius
Chaos Dreadnought (90), w/Missile Launcher (10) = 100
Ancient and battle-maddened, Domius longs for the release of death, and slakes his thirst with the deaths of others while he seeks it.

Troops
Tactical Squad II – Uriel’s Own
10 Chaos Space Marines (150) w/Icon of Chaos Glory(10), 2x Meltagun (20), incl. Aspiring Champion Ezekiel (15) w/Power Fist (25) & Bolt Pistol = 220
in Rhino II w/Smoke & Searchlight, Combi-Melta (10) = 45
Uriel's personal guard and among his eldest battle-brothers. Fallen to the core.

Tactical Squad III – Raphael’s Retinue
10 Chaos Space Marines (150) w/Icon of Slaanesh (20), 2x Meltagun (20), incl. Aspiring Champion Michael (15) w/Power Weapon (15) & Bolt Pistol = 220
in Rhino I w/Smoke & Searchlight, Combi-Melta (10) = 45
Those of the Fallen, and some younger renegades who have joined them in recent centuries, who are persuaded by Raphael's example that Slaanesh's favor is worth currying.

Our Desire Frustrated
6 Daemonettes (Lesser Daemons) = 78
Manifestations of all the Fallen's frustrated passions, lost hopes and dreams. Summoned by Raphael, or by the sheer frenzy and ecstasy of battle.

Our Rage Given Flesh
8 Bloodletters (Lesser Daemons) = 104
As a demonstration of his independence from Slaanesh's command, and the powers granted to him by all the gods, Uriel prefers to summon Bloodletters in contrast to Raphael's Daemonettes. These manifest all the bloodlust and rage the Fallen have built up over millenia of conflict

Heavy Support
Havoc Squad Omega
5 CSM (75), Icon of Chaos Glory (10), 4 Missile Launchers (80) = 165
Deep-dyed veterans of the Fall, experts with their weapons. They take no greater pleasure than in robbing the enemy of his vehicles, or throwing fragmentation missiles into crowded mobs of the enemy.

Reviled Brothers Brutus and Magnus
2 Obliterators = 150
Uriel heard of the Obliterator cult long ago, and persuaded some few of his men to attempt to steal its secrets. It is only through steely discipline and icy hatred that Brutus and Magnus abide their mutated forms. They know they have forsaken what little humanity they once possessed, even moreso than their brethren.

Eye of Wrath
Predator with Autocannon turret (70), Lascannon sponsons (60) = 130
An ancient war machine, consecreted to battle and profaned by fury.

Total: 1747

Event packet here:

http://events.dorkamorka.com/Battle_for_the_Burbs_Tournament_Packet_v2011.FEB.27.pdf

Missions are on pages 4, 5 and 6 of the packet.

Round 1 was against TheRhino (here on Dakka)'s Ultramarine biker army. Pitched Battle. Primary objective modified KPs, secondary getting mobily vehicles and squads above half starting strength into the enemy table half, Tertiary kill all enemy Troops, Quaternary kill most expensive HQ. We had Night Fight the first two turns.

I largely clumped on the left side, but left my Pred way out on the right flank, and my Havocs central. He pulled a fast flanking maneuver to the right and managed to catch my Pred for an early lead. On the left, my DP only managed to kill his Pred before succumbing to enemy shooting. I needed my HtH to go a bit better to win the KP battle, or a 6th turn. Alas, it was not to be. He took the primary, I took the secondary (basically our entire surviving armies got into each other's half of the table, but he only had 4-5 units left, and I had 7 or 8), no one got the Tertiary, and he got my most expensive HQ. So I got 10/31 possible battle, and figured in a three round tournament with 24 people I was basically out of it, but would press on! TheRhino was an excellent, fun and challenging opponent, and I didn't mind him getting his revenge after our first game, where I beat him at last year's Boston Brawl.

Round 2 Tony S' mechanized Orks with a big unit of Lootas. Spearhead. Primary Seize Ground with three objectives (one had to be in the center of the table), secondary KPs, Tertiary kill most expensive FO selection, Quaternary wipe out all Troops.

This one went much better for me. My terminators, bloodletters and HQs were able to get into his backfield around the flank. I blew up his vehicles in the middle of the table, and left him with only a few models. 30/31 as I could not wipe out every last Troop in five turns. Awesome, fun opponent.

Round 3 was against Matt C's mixed/hordy Tyranids. Modified Dawn of War (no one could deploy within 6" of the middle line; all scoring units could deploy, and up to two non-scoring units of the player's choice), Primary Capture & Control, Secondary Table Quarters (ICs and non-objective-contesting units cannot hold or contest; anything else can), Tertiary kill all enemy HQs, Quaternary kill all Elite or FA.

Table was very heavily terrained, with upward of 15 wood templates plus a big (like 12"-15" square) LOS-blocking landing platform in the middle. We both stacked my left, and I shot the crud out of him as his Tervigon burped forth unending hordes of little gribblies to sit on his objective, his Stealers Outflanked to the wrong side, and I pushed his walking Tyrant + 3 Guard Deathstar back and forth with Lash. My Terminators were the only thing that could reach the backfield in the time available to threaten his objective, and despite doing some valiant work and temporarily pulling 40+ Gaunts off of his objective, they eventually failed their armor saves and went down. If they had lasted a little longer and/or the Tervigon had run out of babies at some point, I might have been able to pull this one out. Another fun, challenging opponent, and an excellent game. I just wish we could have played to completion. We only got in 4 turns, and each held our own objective. Draw Primary, I took secondary, no one got Tertiary, he got my Elites. So I scored 18/31.

So, total of 58/93 possible on Battles.
I got a 21/30 in painting (above average; 13 people with lower scores, 3 other people with the same, 7 higher).
I got 37.3/40 in Sportsmanship (slightly below average, actually; outstanding event with great guys. 9 people below me, 1 with the same, 13 above).
I got 11/15 possible on Comp. (High end; 3 people above me, 2 others with the same, 18 below).

Wound up in the middle of the pack in 11th place. Great time though. Fellow Cold Steel Merc Notmatthew took second, just behind GT winner and ETC player Wyatt Traina.

Definitely looking forward to the next one. Though I'm mildly torn about whether to drink like this time and maximize the fun, or not drink and maybe get a few more Battles points.
