Hello.
Finally got my first squad painted. Not fully done though, waiting for the static grass tufts I ordered. Then they will be complete.
Anyhow, this is one of 4 veteran squads I have in my Elysian army.
Setting for this unit:
Sergeant Harker upgrade
Missile launcher
3 Plasmaguns

[Sergeant Harker with his veteran squad.]

[Sergeant Harker close up]

[Veteran squad with meltaguns]

[Storm trooper unit]

Not seen in the picture is squad markings. I'll get some close ups tomorow I hope. Day light is the best light for taking pictures... not my desk lamp a few inches away
Also, Sergeant harker has an ammo box on his back, which is feeding the heavy bolter with ammo. Cant be seen... but I'll get some additional pictures if people want to see it.

Next up will be 2 small units of Storm troopers. 5 man units with meltaguns. I am using Elysian with lascutters as storm troopers. Lascutters look heavier thus the hot shot lasgun.

Inboud...

Looking very nice indeed. I like the Harker conversion- I'm guessing you used the catachan head?
I've only got two real niggles. 1. I don't like how the plasma guns overhang the bases, but I appreciate its hard to accommodate them. 2. Its probably just the photo, but their camo doesn't really match their base. Perhaps the odd tuft of static grass would tie it in more?

Great start regardless, and looking forward to more.

Thanks.

Yea, the plasmas hanging in mid air is annoying. But I don't want to put them on large bases so they will fit. This is the only unit I have I think, that have models laying down. So no more of those guys

Yah the grass tufts are green, and will match the green uniform they wear.

Oh and its a catachan head indeed.

Have you played any games with the unit yet? How do you find the load out with the 3 plas, ml and hb?

The unit looks great! Does the elysian ruleset have an equivalent for harker?

Yes I have played several games with the unit.
It has faired well actually.
The infiltrate ability makes me able to deploy them last and at positions not available in deployment zone. It is not nessesary to deploy them all alone.
I usually have them close to my main army so they can get support. Also I have them to counter transports in the first rounds.

This said, they aim for transports in the first turns. This has gone well. Taking down one or two.
After this they go for anti infantry and do well at this tii do to the anti infantry power they do have.

I can't say that they will take in their points worth every time. They do have a tendency to pull a lot of attention.

Their Stealth rule will increase their survivability a lot though.

@Scrazza
I am using the normal IG codex for my Elysian army. Just because I use Elysian models doesn't mean I must use the Imperial armour army lists
The IG codex has everything needed for an Elysian army really. Only thing missing is the "iron will" special rule. And I can live without it.

So the characters, in my opinion, are generic. I don't think they are the only ones in the universe with elevated abilities.
Would be boring to limit the characters to "only" Catachans/Cadia.

I think that Harker and Sly Marbo fits Elysian armies well. Stealth isn't uncommon for Elysian to be experts in, and deep striking with high precision or poping up for hit and run attacks with demo charges and high tech weapons is something Elysians do too

The models look great! I really like the harker conversion, I've been working on a Cadian equivalent of him myself

No. But one of the important, overlooked things of GW?

The special characters are really to be considered 'archetypes' that you can use as the basis for a counts as fitted for your army.

Awesome work! Would you be willing to add some close ups of the Harker model as well? I'm working on almost the exact same plan and any examples/tips/issues would be greatly appriciated.

I agree though, the "Catachan" build in the standard codex does fit the Elysians fairly well, with things like Harkers infiltrate allowing the squad to have a feel of either stealthly getting into position or outflanking to look like they were air-dropped in just off the board.

Sure, I'll get some pictures for you as soon as I get home from dinner at my parents house.

Wow. Simply fantastic. I've wanted to do Elysians for a while, but I don't think they'd turn out this nice. I really like the wreckage on the bases.

Yep! I totally dig the way they look.

I haven't really started on the FW models yet except for doing some basic prep work on what's gonna be my test mini. The Valks I have started assembling and painting to keep my hands busy while I iron out the details of the actual army list and figure out if I need to place one more order to FW or not.

@Sentinel
The models are really detailed in terms that they actually paint them self if you use simple techniques as washing and "wetbrushing".
If you can get your hands on a model, just try some basic techniques, and paint in colors that your sure will work out fine.

Problem with many people who buy Elysians is that they try out to complex color schemes. It usually ends up messy.

Doing an Elysian list (using the IG codex or the real Elysian list) is a challenge. Sure one could include tanks but then I think the whole concept is straying away from the Air cav feel.

Having to many Valks/Vendettas will make it hard for you units and other Valks/Vendettas to get Line of sight, and of course space for them to move.
For me, 4 Flyers is a good number. 2 Valkyries in a squaron, and 2 Vendettas flying solo.

It took me a couple of games to get used to the air cav style. And I ended up playing a gunline list the first 1-3 turns then changing into a very aggressive style from turn 3 or 4.

I have tried out aggressive from start, and that didn't really work out to well, since I don't have enough fire power at mid range to take out enough of the enemy units. At mid range or close, the enemy will get into close combat and crush me

All out gunline I will not take much losses... but won't get any objectives.

Here is a close up on Sergeant Harker.
Not complete yet as mentioned before. Need some grass tufts, and some minor adjustments on the actual model.

What I have used is a normal Elysian model, with Elysian heavy bolter. Though I have used two heavy bolter ammo straps.
The head is from the catachan command squad box.

Thanks. Thats what I am trying to go for. Except the Sergeant Harker guy though... that gun is way to big... but I can't do much about it really. Having dual or a larger lasgun wont just do it.

Did you consider maybe setting it up like the smartguns from the "Aliens" movie?

Not the greatest picture, but the best I can find. With that whole suspensor rig attached to the backpack ammo feeder it could get rid of the whole "gun is way too big" factor.

Edit was because I forgot to finish a thought.

Or you could always go with the excuse that his gun is made of lighter alloy than the standard Elysian heavy bolter. It's a reasonable explanation since:

A) He's a sergeant and would have access to better equipment than your standard grunt.
B) Elysians are drop troops who need to move about with extreme precision for quick assaults. It would make sense that they would make their weapons as lightweight as possible.
